You must getto look at their photo exhibitions in the new train station inPalma with two exciting photographers on display. There isalso some top music including the first class Brodsky Quartetin Palma’s Teatre Principal as well as renowned jazz trumpeterRob Mazurek in Lloseta later in the month. Founded in 1978, the internationallyrenowned Ballet Nacional de España haswon many prestigious awards from theCritics´ Prize for the Best Foreign Showduring the 1988 season at the New YorkMetropolitan to both the Critics’ Prize andaudience award at the VI Festival deFlamenco de Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), in2002, for the choreography ofFuenteovejuna by Antonio Gades. Today,the company is facing a new creativeperiod, with various projects under thedirection of José Antonio, two of which willbe performed here in Mallorca.

Elegía-Homenaje (a Antonio Ruiz Soler)pays homage to someone who hasundoubtedly been one of the pillars ofSpanish dance. José Antonio consideredhim one of his masters, and with thismature-flavoured choreography he wishesto recover a way of dancing, a way of feelingand experiencing dance. A touch of oldelegance, taste and distinction, withsplendid costumes by Pedro Moreno.

La Leyenda (The Legend) is a personaltribute by José Antonio to the amazingCarmen Amaya. It does not hold anybiographical pretensions or limitations, butcreates images that capture certainmoments of her life and work, her strengthand delicacy, her greatness and loneliness.

XIV Temporada de Ballet MallorcaEl Ballet Nacional de España, internacionalmente conocido, se fundó en 1978 y ha ganadomuchos premios como el Premio a la Crítica al Mejor Espectáculo Extranjero en 1988 enel Metropolitan de Nueva York, así como los Premios de la Crítica y del Público en 2002 ala coreografía Fuenteovejuna, de Antonio Gades. En la actualidad, la compañía estáorientada a un nuevo periodo creativo, con varios proyectos bajo la dirección de JoséAntonio, dos de los cuales se representarán en Mallorca.

Elegía-Homenaje (a Antonio Ruiz Soler) es un homenaje a alguien que, sin lugar adudas, ha sido uno de los pilares de la danza española. José Antonio lo consideraba unode sus maestros y con su coreografía desea recuperar una manera de bailar, de sentir yexperimentar la danza. Un toque de elegancia, sabor y distinción, con espléndidos vestidosde Pedro Moreno.

La Leyenda es un tributo personal de José Antonio a la asombrosa Carmen Amaya. Notiene pretensiones biográficas ni miméticas, pero recrea imágenes que capturan ciertosmomentos de su vida y baile, de su fuerza y delicadeza, de su grandeza y soledad.

Following the success of the first event in April, details have now been released forthe next Jellyfish Comedy Night on 18 June.

Many people were left disappointed as tickets completely sold out for the first EnglishComedy Night on 16 Apr. The packed house thoroughly enjoyed the two top comediansfrom the UK circuit - Anthony King, with his wonderful sharp style and plenty of one linerskept the audience laughing throughout, as did Alan Francis´ raconteur style of humourwhich included a wonderful Sean Connery sketch. The evening began with a quality pre-show supper in the very smart Ses Forquetes restaurant upstairs and was rounded off withdancing to some great music supplied by DJ and compère Richie Clark, making it a nightto remember.
