BACKGROUND Each diesel generator (DG) is provided with a storage tankhaving a fuel oil capacity sufficient to operate ha D for

eriod of 7 'da while h 1 indiscussed 1n

ec son . .4 e . . e m ximum load demand iscalculated using the assumption that at least three DGs are.available. This onsite fuel oil capacity is sufficient tooperate the DGs for longer than the time to replenish theonsite supply from outside sources.

Fuel oil is transferred from storage tank to day tank by atransfer pump associated with each storage tank.Independent pumps and piping preclude the failure of onepump, or the rupture of any pipe, valve, or tank to resultin the loss of more than one DG. All outside tanks, pumps, and piping are located underground.

For proper operation of the standby DGs. it is necessary toensure the proper quality of the fuel -oil. RegulatoryGuide 1.137 (Ref. 2) addresses the recommended fuel oilpractices as supplemented by ANSI N195 (Ref. 3). The fueloil properties governed by these SRs are the water.andsediment content, the. kinematic viscosity. specific gravity(or API gravity) and impurity level.

The DG lubrication system is designed to provide sufficientlubrication to permit proper operation of its associated DGunder all loading conditions. The system is required tocirculate the lube oil to the diesel engine.working'surfacesand to remove excess heat generated by friction duringoperation. Each engine oil sump contains an inventorycapable of supporting a minimum of 7 days of operation. This supply is sufficient to allow the operator to replenishlube oil from outside sources.

Each DG has an air start system with two air receivers (DG Ehas four air receivers) each of which provide adequatecapacity for five successive start cycles on the DG withoutrecharging the air start receivers,
