Engineered Bar Systems
Marine Tie RodsTie Rods are used in port and harbour construction to anchor waterfront structures such as quay walls, berths and crane runways. Dextra’s unique range covers various steel grades from 355 to 700 N/mm2 in yield strength, and thread diameters from M42 to M162. Several articulated joints such as swivel plates, captive nuts and ball cage systems can be used to accommodate the project requirements and our anchorages are compatible with any sheet piles profile, combi walls or concrete diaphragm walls. Dextra also supplies corrosion protection solutions and can prefabricate wailing beams and fixing bolts to provide a complete anchoring system.
Tension barsand compression strutsTension bars are typically used to hold or stiffen the roofs of large structures. Being most of the time exposed, they need to be strong but also aesthetic.
Compression struts complement Dextra offer for roof supporting systems when structural members are required to take compression loads.
With a wide range of sizes and accessories in various steel grades both carbon and stainless and various finishes, Dextra system meets the engineering and design requirement of consultants and architects alike.

Rock & soil anchorsMaintaining a structure on the ground or stabilizing the soil during excavation are some of the first concerns of civil engineers when starting a project.
For vertical structures, cantilevered structures, underground works, tunnelling works or slope stabilisation, Dextra has an answer to all geotechnical anchorage challenges, being permanent solutions with adapted corrosion protection or innovative temporary solutions using fibre-polymer products.
Post-tensioning, lifting & stressing barsPost-tensioning of concrete structures is usually done with cables and strands. However, on short distances, bars provide a number of benefits: Less draw-in loss, superior corrosion resistance, reliable modulus of elasticity and lower relaxation. Moreover they are easier to extend, to de-tension and to re-stress and need a much smaller recess for their jacking.
Contrary to conventional high-tensile bars, Dextra high-performance bars have guaranteed levels of ductility and impact strength that make them the safest choice for seismic protection.

Carbon Steel Tension Bars
Product benefits• High steel grades available, allowing the use of smaller bar diameters
to achieve the same tension capacity, which in turn can make site installation both quicker and easier.
• In situ length adjustment can be achieved by rotation of the bar (if the tendon is supplied without turnbuckle) and/or turnbuckle.
• Turnbuckles also allow for the application of a preload, making for example self-weight sagging corrections easier.
Surface finishCarbon Steel Tensino Bars can either be delivered painted or galvanized. If required, they can also be delivered non-painted (plain black steel surface).
Design references • BS EN 1993 (Euro Code3, EC3).• ANSI/AISC 360-05 Load & Resistance Factor Design method (LRFD). • ANSI/AISC 360-05 Allowable Stress Design method (ASD).• AS 4100
Accessories

Corrosion protection Fully threaded bars are usually protected by fitting a pipe over the bar and grouting it with cement on site.
The smooth bars for shear key applications are normally supplied in a HDPE tube injected with grease.
Other corrosion protections are available as per customer’s specification: galvanizing, plastic shrink films, paint, etc. These various types of protection may be applied on site or in a workshop.
Jahra Road, Kuwait
System descriptionPre-stressing bars are used for permanent works such as connecting various segments of bridge structures, shear keys for seismic resistance at the connection of segments or girders and piers, and reinforcement of piers that are subject to horizontal pre-stressing forces.
They are also used for temporary works such as anchoring of temporary steel frame supports, lifting bars for segment launching trusses, and stitching bar segments before pre-stressing.
These bars need to have sufficient strength properties to carry the heavy loads of structures and pre-loading to balance the external loads structures are subjected to at a later stage.
Our post-tensioning range features both fully-threaded bars and smooth bars, with a full range of accessories which also covers shear key applications.
The services of a fully dedicated design team are available to provide engineering support to our customers.
Typical applications• Post-tensioning of concrete structures• Seismic protection• Heavy lifting• Anchoring• Pre-stressed concrete• Pile-testing

Active Anchor
ASTEC Active Anchor is an active and post-tensioned ground anchoring system. Its unique hybrid concept combines standard PT strand with Astec Glass Rebar (GFRP) thanks to a proprietary connector with guarantees a tensile performance equivalent to the full strength of tendon. The unmatched resistance to alkali and acid attacks of the active anchor makes this Astec Active Anchor the ideal solution for permanent anchorages in corrosive environment without any further sophisticated corrosion protection required. Moreover, periodic monitoring and mainteance are no longer a recurrent cost. The anisotropic characteristic of the GFRP ensures that Astec Active Anchor can easily be cut by common tunnel and pile boring machines. As such Astec Active Anchor is the ultimate alternative to removable anchors generating savings and simplifying the planning of the subsequent phases of the project.

Product features • Corrosion resistance• Easy to cut• Easy handling • Light weight• Excellent bond to concrete/grout
Using innovative FRP materials, our ASTEC product range offers large scale savings in time and money. The exceptional properties of FRP material allow our products to develop very high strength capacity while being very easy to handle on the job site.
On being easily cut-able they allow unmatchable gains in productivity during sequential excavation. It some cases they suppress the necessity to remove anchors installed beyond the property line. Generally the greatest savings are generated in terms of schedule.
In addition, ASTEC solutions permit significant improvement in the safety and durability. FRP materials are resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, which makes them extremely reliable in ground condition. Finally, all our solutions are designed, qualified, produced and tested according to internationally recognized standard. It allows us to characterize the predictable behavior of each FRP anchor.

Benefits
• Corrosion Resistant: suitable for permanent and temporary applications. In both cases it alleviates all concerns about corrosion.
• The anisotropic characteristic of FRP ensures that it can easily be cut by common mining equipment.
• A clear advantage of FRP bars is their light weight: only 20 to 25% of steel having the same dimensions.
In underground mining, soil stabilization is fundamental and needs to be addressed with extreme care. Solutions are continuously brought to the industry to improve both safety and productivity. Dextra offers a full range of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) rock-bolting solutions for underground mining.
Being easily-cutable, ASTEC mining solutions allow unmatchable gain in excavation cycles, with significant time saving. Highly resitant to acid and alkali corrosion, our products also permit significant improvement in safety and reliability, making a safer working environment to the miners.
