Detour Architecture + Interiors are a Hobart-based design practice specialising in the areas of Architecture, Interior Architecture, Interior Decoration and Project Management. Our dynamic and friendly team of design professionals consists of architects, interior designers, residential designers, architectural & engineering drafters, and architectural imagery specialists.

As an established design offi ce with over 19 years experience in the Tasmanian design industry, Detour Architecture + Interiors offer design services across the private, commercial and government sectors whilst maintaining a strong focus on the realisation of environmental design practices.

MANAGEMENT AND QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEMS

We have undertaken consultancy work under Commonwealth Government Quality Assurance procedures. We are familiar with these systems and have adapted them for our own Quality Assurance procedures. We ensure that quality control procedures are implemented at agreed milestones throughout each project.

Our staff apply local and Commonwealth regulations including Australian Standards, the Building Code of Australia, the Disabled discrimination Act, Occupational Health and Safety Standards, National Code of Practices for the Construction Industry and other statutory regulations. We are Accredited Building Practitioners as required under the Building Act ofTamania 2000.

Detour is covered by a $1,000,000 Professional Indenity Insurance policy and a $5,000,000 Public Liability Insurance policy. However, this can be altered to suit specifi c project requirements.

Detour’s confi dence and expertise in working with government organisations, educational facilities and major clients in the public sector has seen us undertake a diverse range of signifi cant projects across the state. Our offi ce benefi ts from working with a small and highly experienced team of design professionals, with each staff member bringing their individual strengths to ensure each project has a successful outcome. Due to our size and combined nature we boast excellent inter-offi ce effi ciency, with the projected timeframe for our projects gaining benefi t from our ability to access knowledge & experience from the relevant design disciplines in-house.

Detour demonstrate a high level of commitment to the realisation of your project, and we have a wealth of experience in creating innovative and cost effective design solutions for our clients.Detour hold the philosophy that no project is ‘too small’, and we are experts in delivering project solutions within tight budgets and time constraints. We have solid experience is working with a range of clients including government bodies and those with specialized needs, and our time spent working within the local design industry has established strong points of contact within the associates services including local & state planning regulators, consultants, contractors and suppliers.

Kim Barker

Kim is a senior Interior Architect and the principal of Detour.

She established the business nineteen years ago upon returning to Hobart after living and working interstate and over-seas for over a decade. Kim now pre-dominantly focuses her interior design

work in the educational and commercial domain, however her past projects include work in the childcare, aged care, government and hospitality sectors throughout Tasmania. Kim leads Detour with a strong emphasis on environmen-tally sustainable design principles and with a clear design direction that determine each project as unique. Kim be-lieves that when measuring Detour’s success, the con-tentment of our clients is one of the greatest indicators.Kim is currently studying towards Project Manage-ment Professional (PMP) certifi cation accredited though the Project Management Institute. She will also be completing accreditation to undertake Busi-ness Sustainability Assessments by the end of 2012.

Stephanie Murfet

Stephanie has a degree in Environmental Design, a

Batchelor Degree in Architec-ture and a Diploma in the Busi-ness and Practice of Architecture (through the RAIA and Deakin

University. Stephanie is a registered Architect with RAIA Tasmania. Stephanie strongly believes that architecture needs to be more accessible and build-ings more attuned to their occupants and the en-vironment. “What is often forgotten is that we are providing a service to clients as well as providing good design”. Born in Australia, Stephanie has trav-elled extensively throughout Europe, Asia and North America and has lived for one year in Hong Kong. After working for a larger architectural offi ce, Steph-anie joined Detour in 1998 and has now found a her niche at Detour contributing to the complete inside/outside building and design package philosophy.Stephanie is currently studying and gaining ac-creditation in Residential Energy Assessment.

Rachel Luck

Rachel holds a Batchelor of Applied Science in Interior Architecture

from Charles Darwin University and grad-uated with the award for Best Graduating Student in Interior Architecture. She has worked as an Interior Architect in Dar-win, Sydney and Hobart over the past 10

years and has experience in commercial, retail and hospi-tality fi touts. As well as workimg for Detour, Rachel has an interest in Fin Arts and Desing and is studying Visual Com-munication (Graphic Design) at the University of Tasmania School of Art with the aim of explanding into Environmental Graphics (Graphic Design within the built environment).

Tom Middleton

Tom has been with De-tour since January

2010. He is a qualified Build-ing Designer and has over the past 40 years gained extensive experience work-

ing on a fulltime and contract basis undertak-ing architectural design, documentation and Contract Administration on many major Hobart Projects. Including the Mercury Technopark, Hadleys Inner Collins, Zinifex Pilot Plant, The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. Projects also included the undertaking of Greenstar Audits.

Bosky Soneji

Bosky has recently joined the Detour team. She is a

qualifi ed Interior Archictect with 4 years overseas experience. She also holds a Masters Degree in Design Management from Birmingham

University, UK. Her recent work includes residential and commercial projects with experience in managing design offi ces and planning strategies for creative fi rms.

Catrine Lynch

Catrine is a qualifi ed Interior Decorator and also Detour

Administration Manager and prod-uct librarian. Through her exten-sive knowledge in the latest build-ing, fi nishing products and design trends she is dedicated in pro-

viding the best selections in decorative schemes.

Marcos Gogolin Marcos has been involved with De-tour since it’s early days. With a back-ground in Industrial and Furniture Design, Marcos has been in charge of our equipment, digital communi-cation and CAD for concept design presentation. Marcos pioneered

in Hobart by introducing photo-imaging technology to Detour’s clientele since 1996. As well as being our e-Media manager, Marcos is a teacher at the Tasmanian Pyrotechnic and UTAS School of Arts where he is cur-rently focusing on 3D printing and digital manufacturing

Lee Graham

Lee is Detour’s fi nancial manager and with nearly 30 years experience in accounting and fi nances.she has established and maintains the business fi nancial procedures an is using her expertise to provide support for the company as well as managing day to

day transactions such as reports, payrolls and invoicing.
