This 174 hour Detention Officer Certification Course will present the basic standard operating procedures for local confinement facilities and develop the role and responsibilities of professional detention officers. Admission Requirements U.S. Citizen At least 21 years of age High School Graduate or equivalent Medical examination by a licensed physician Certified criminal history from each county that applicant has resided since the age of 16 No felony or major misdemeanor charges Event Supervise inmates providing safety, security, meals, proper sanitation and medical care Objectives Respond to medical emergencies within the facility Search incoming and resident prisoners Search a cell block and general areas Apply information of a prisoner’s legal and constitutional rights to administrative operation of the detention facility, composition of disciplinary sanctions, use of force and civil liability to officers Identify and cope with stressful situations Maintain personal and detention facility security Deal effectively with inmates Process incoming prisoners Transport prisoners safely Profile characteristics of a potential suicide Respond to inmates in crisis situations Develop the ability to respond to a physical attack to ensure the safety of officers and inmates Develop and implement emergency plans Properly demonstrate the use of fire equipment June 1, 2021 - July1 , 2021 8 am - 5 pm South Piedmont Community College 4209 Old Charlotte Hwy.
