BEFORE BEFORE

A new kitchen led to a new perspective and new appreciation (andmaybe even some new culinary skills) for a homeowner in a cozyPlymouth neighborhood.

The kitchen in Marian Schrah’s traditional cottage home was morethan 30 years old, and Schrah said that “everything!” needed tobe updated.

CKC designer Mary Maney worked with Marian to create a new lay-out for better movement and made improvements to update thespace while maintaining its cottage charm appeal. Updates includ-ed adding painted white Crystal cabinets with a brushed-brown fin-ish to resemble antique furniture, and a new island in a medium-stained knotty alder wood. ornate moulding adds to the cottage charm while soft shades of cream in theartisan-carved backsplash complement the Shalimar Gold granite counter top.

Marian is thrilled with all of the updates and upgrades: “This kitchen was 30years old, so it really needed upgrading – and it looks fabulous! I love the newhood over the range, the lit cabinets, the spiffy high-end appliances and theway they were able to fit everything so nicely into my small kitchen. Now I haveto start cooking!”

In addition to the kitchen remodel, CKC also revamped the bar in the familyroom by adding a bar sink and repurposing the granite countertop from thekitchen. The large screen TV now fits nicely into the bookshelves, thanks to aredesign. In the laundry we upgraded the cabinetry to match the kitchen. •

Letter from thePresident...

I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer! I want to

share some highlights from Crystal Kitchen Centerfrom the past few months.

In May, we hosted a Cinco de Mayo party for the

Tiffany Circle of the Red Cross, a community of

women leaders and philanthropists who invest in

their local American Red Cross chapters. This an

amazing group of women who support the Red

Cross in its mission to serve the American public

in times of war and peace with disaster assis-

tance, blood collection, safety training and count-

less other community assistance services. We were

thrilled to celebrate their local efforts with an

event that included a celebrity chef cooking up

the flavors of Mexico in one of our model kitchens.

We are also very proud of recent accolades for our

work including an honorable mention in the Crystal

Cabinet Works 2011 Design Contest for the renova-

tion of Byron and Janet Richard’s kitchen in their

vacation home in Cross Lake.

And the fall fun continues at Crystal KitchenCenter with the Remodelors Showcase event, great

kitchen seminars and much more – we hope to see

you soon!

Making a Splash with Tile

When Anne Jones of south Minneapolis attended 2010Remodelers Showcase in her neighborhood, little did sheknow she would soon be transforming the lower level of herown home.

The space, which included a stone-front, gas fireplace, feltdark, cramped and unorganized. Lacking adequate lightingand storage, the room needed an overhaul to bring in morelight and provide ways to maximize storage. Carol’s planincluded the following:

Lighting Solution: A new egress window floods the roomwith natural daylight, and the stone on the exterior windowwell now matches the fireplace. Recess lights in the ceil-ing, glass door cabinets with energy efficient LED lightsand under-cabinet task lighting complete a remarkabletransformation.

Storage Solution: New knotty alder cabinets, stained tomatch the existing wood paneling, now line three walls. The sweeping lines of the cabinetry now draw the eyearound the room. Open and closed storage units provide avariety of storage options.

Organization Solution: The homeowner loves the addi-tional storage. Computer equipment, books, magazines andhousehold records all have a new organized place, so shecan work, watch TV and relax in her fantastic new retreat.

“The room is not only more functional but it actually looksmuch bigger, and I can’t believe how much of a differencethe new lighting makes,” Anne added. “I also can't believeI waited this long to make a change, I use my new spacealmost every day and have to remember to try to use otherrooms in my house.” •
