The Problem

• Money is a problem in this economy.• Teachers have to cut out things from their supplies to

afford the essentials.• One of those things are chart stands.• Pocket Charts are a fun and easy way to teach words and

literature.• But they can’t be used universally without a chart stands. • But these chart stands can range from $100 to $180 for

one.

Brainstorm

• Brainstorming is when you get together and come up with various ways to solve a problem.

• When we brainstormed we came up with a solution.• We had the idea to use 2 20 foot long ¾ long PVC pipes.• We cut them up and put the together to make a cheap,

easy chart stand.• It is a quick less than a minute process.• The base of the stand is already made and glued together.

Constraints and Criteria

• Limited time to build• Limited finances• We had to find a light weight material• The scale of the stand had to be universal

Explore Possibilities

• We could have use wood• Could have used aluminum or metal piping• Could have glued it together

Selecting a Approach

• We will select a material that is economical• Build the stand that is light weight• Design a stand that easy to build

Develop a design approach

• Chart stand is simple to make.• Must be at least 36 inches wide.• Chart stand is universal.• Easy to take apart and store.

Model or Prototype

• We made our prototype out of the standard PVC pipe that we are going to make the official models out of.

• We made the prototype red although we aren’t going to use color for the final model.

Test and Evaluate

• We tested our prototype multiple times. • It worked each time.

Refine

• We decided not to paint the models because the paint scratched off.

• We glued the base of the stand to save more time putting it together.

Create or make

• We made a final model to test the stand.

Communicate results

• We will communicate the results with the public via website.
