● Abbreviation of Student Startup and Innovation Policy.● Spans from Year 2017 to 2021.● Established by Education Dept., Government of Gujarat.● For creating and promoting entrepreneurial mindset in current academic institutes and

universities.● For creation of Innovation and Pre-Incubation Ecosystem Support (IPIES) for students.● AIMS:

o To create 1% job creators from 1.4 Million students;o To support 1000 student innovations per year;o To support 500 student start-ups in 5 years;o To create IPIES in every university and at least 200 institutes.

Introduction of SSIP

Key Objectives of SSIP● The Student Startup & Innovation Policy of Government of Gujarat aims to create an integrated, state-wide, university-based

innovation ecosystem to support innovations and ideas of young students and provide a conducive environment for optimum harnessing of their creative pursuit.

● Developing student centric Innovation and Pre-incubation Ecosystem for Students (IPIES).● Creating environment for creativity to flourish and an end-to-end support system in educational institutions to allow ample

support to ideas for better execution.● Build internal capacity of educational institutions and key components of the innovation ecosystem to enable deployed

processes to make sustainable impact at scale.● Create pathways for mind to market by harnessing and handholding projects/ research/ innovation/ ideas of students in

Gujarat.● Creating and facilitating sectoral and regional innovation efforts in state around educational institutions.● Create a common platform to showcase, support and upscale innovations for motivating stakeholders as well as for an

opportunity to create value for money and value for many.● Leverage public system initiatives at state and central level, academia, industries and by other ecosystem stakeholders /

domain experts and institutions to make an inclusive effort.

Introduction of Design Innovation Centre (DIC)

● Design Innovation Centre (DIC) – GTU is a project of the Gujarat TechnologicalUniversity (GTU) funded by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education,and Government of India in May 2018.

● The Gujarat Technological University, Design Innovation Centre is to provide aplatform to students, faculty members and researchers enthusiastic for learning andcreativity, and having passion to convert their ideas into innovations.

Concept of DIC

● Presently, GTU DIC, Ahmedabad is working as Hub and there are three spokes underGTU DIC Hub namely A.V. Parekh Technical Institute – Rajkot, Dr. S. & S. S. GhandhyGovernment Engineering College – Surat, and Government Engineering College,Modasa.

● AVPTI, Rajkot Spoke is focused to uplift, support and encourage the Startupecosystem of Saurashtra-Kutch region.

Key Objectives of DIC

The basic purpose of setting up Design Innovation Centres is to:● Promote a culture of innovation and creative problem solving;● Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration amongst industry, academia, Government Institutions, research laboratories, etc;● To serve as a location for the industrial collaborators to encourage their new Product Development in the campus using in-house facilities.● To serve as a place that imparts design-based education and practice systematic design through projects.● To enhance interdisciplinary design-focused innovation and creativity.● To facilitate interdisciplinary design-focused education, research and entrepreneurial activities in order to create commercial opportunities and build

partnerships between academics and industry.● To promote, nurture and advance the culture of design and innovation in the country leading to significant contributions and breakthroughs impacting

quality of human life.● To create an ecosystem facilitating students and faculty to take their innovative ideas from classrooms/labs to market/people.● To facilitate evolution of new models of academia-industry interactions as well as academia-social interactions and develop institutional networks

for innovations in the thematic areas.● To promote innovations which are both inclusive and disruptive.● To build a flagship Program in the areas of design and innovation which can be replicated in other institutes/universities in our country.● To promote all forms of innovations in the complete value chain from process to product, including innovation as a discipline itself.● To promote increased interactions/collaborations with institutes/organizations World-wide working in the areas of design and innovation.
