The term “Green Building” is synonymous w i t h “ S u s t a i n a b i l i t y ” a n d r e f e r s to a holistic approach to design and construction. As India’s foremost and path-breaking construction firm, L&T Construction recognizes its tremendous responsibility in positively contributing to sustainable design awareness, proficiency and innovation.
Realising the need for Green Buildings in India, and the benefits (environmental, economical, health and safety, community) they offer, EDRC has adopted “Green Buildings” as one of the thrust areas for its developmental work.
A team of professionals constantly explores new concepts in this field and examines them for local feasibility / applicability and to implement environmentally responsible, financially feasible and technologically sound strategies to conserve energy and to surpass current norms for water conservation, waste management / recycling and the quality of the indoor environment (air, light, acoustics and personal controllability of building systems).
D e s i g n s c h e m e s a re p re p a re d a n d a n a ly s e d u s i n g e n e r g y s i m u l a t i o n computer softwares. Alternative designs are offered whenever necessary for increasing the energy efficiency, with its cost-benefit analysis, for the entire life of the building.

Center for Excellence and Futuristic DevelopmentAn innovative hub for Buildings & Factories projects, which will incubate Architects and engineers in the realm of new technology.
Centre for Excellence & Futuristic Development (CEFD) of L&T construction, is working towards developing sustainable and carbon neutral built spaces. As a step forward in this process, CEFD is focusing on enhancing energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, occupant comfort and climate responsiveness in the upcoming projects.
Green Construction
Sustainable development concepts, applied to the design, construction, and operation of buildings, can enhance both the economic well-being and environmental health of communities. CEFD is working to evolve green building guidelines that would set both general goals for the project
and specific parameters for building design, products, systems, and siting.
envelope optimization
Performance improvement of envelope components at elemental and assembly level, active envelope systems and envelope integrated energy generation systems are taken up for research.
life cycle costing
Good engineering with a strong economics provide business successes. CEFD intends to develop an economic model that provides better assessment of long-term cost effectiveness of projects than can be obtained with only first costs decisions.
CEFD also works to enhance the ability to keep design, construction and operational information up-to-date and accessible in an integrated digital environment to give architects, engineers, builders, and owners a clear overall vision of their projects, as well as the ability to make better decisions faster, to raise the quality and to increase the profitability of projects.
