Substantial compliance with this provision includes recognition of employees who follow safe and healthful work practices, training and retraining programs, disciplinary actions, or any other such means that ensures employee compliance with safe and healthful work practices.

Technical VS CulturalTechnical VS Cultural• Programs may be required by regulation,

but if not “sold” correctly to Administration, Middle Management, and front-line staff correctly, the program will not succeed.

• Safety personnel in today’s work environment must have the traits of a: – Safety specialist– Business person– Politician (shaking hands and kissing babies)– Psychologist

– Annually required training (ie Bloodborne Pathogens)– Information not required at a specific interval, but are

based off of hazards within the workplace.• These topics are covered approximately once every 2 -3 years.

shops have done their tailgate meetings

• Report of conducted inspections is sent to the division managers.

• When hazards are identified, either from an injury or facility inspection, changes are made to make the job safer.

– New Codes of Safe Practices.

• Asbestos Awareness (Old vs New)

– New Policies or Procedures.

– Repairs / modifications made to the facility or equipment.
