Who should get Sealants?
• Children and teenagers• Because of the possibility of tooth decay in crevices and
grooves of premolars and molars• When should sealants be placed?
• On permanent molars and premolars once they come in• Sealants protect the teeth throughout cavity-prone years• Its rare baby teeth receive sealants unless they have deep
depressions and grooves.
Always keep baby teeth healthy!
What is a Sealant?
A sealant is a plastic material which is applied to the surface of the back, chewing molars, to cover the deep grooves and crevices. The sealant protects tooth’s enamel from the damaging plaque and acids by helping to “seal out” the decay.
How is a sealant applied?
Sealants are applied quickly and painlessly. • The teeth are cleaned by our hygienist • An acid solution is placed on all chewing surfaces (this
helps the sealant adhere to the tooth’s surface• The teeth are rinsed with water and dried• The sealant material is applied onto the tooth enamel and
the sealant will bond the tooth and harden.
How is a sealant applied?
How long do sealants last? • Up to 10 years• It is still important to have them checked for chipping or
wearing• Can be replaced if needed
Do my benefits cover the cost of sealants?• Many benefit companies cover the cost, but Kutsch and
Renyer Family Cosmetic and Dentistry would be happy to check with your dental plan!
