North Swimming Carnival

I was disappointed to miss this great event, having to head

to Albury instead, for a Principal’s Conference.

From all reports it was a typically wonderful day and our

gratitude goes to all that chipped in to make it so-chefs,

time-keepers, judges, starters, recorders and early

morning setter-uppers. A special ‘pat-on-the-back’ goes to

Miss Smith for her fine organization, as well as: the Deni

Swim Club (use of equipment), Bill Dudley (starter/set up)

and Cheryl McMillan (set up/ stroke judge).

McKenzie proved to be the dominant house-team in the

overall pointscore. Tyson were in 2nd spot, ahead of Boyd

and Cobb. McKenzie captains’, Olivia Park and Jason

Higgins accepted the winning shield on behalf of their

team.

Congratulations to our ‘Age Division Champions’ for 2013,

namely:

Charlie Dudley (Junior Boy)

Eimear Gogarty (Junior Girl)

Ryan Borella-Holschier (11Yr Boy)

Stephanie Vickery (11Yr Girl)

Jason Higgins (Senior Boy)

Sophie Hodge (Senior Girl)

One record was broken on the day, with Charlie Dudley

surpassing Will Hodge’s 2008 Medley time by a massive

1min 9 seconds.

A whopping 36 children have qualified for the DPSSA

carnival which will be held in Hay on Friday, March 1.

Transport for this event will be by private transport.

A reminder to all parents that are taking students

other than their own, that they are required to drop

into the school and complete a ‘Prohibited Employment

Declaration (if they haven’t already done so!), as well

as provide a photocopy of car registration, your license

and vehicle insurance.

See over for photo page!

THIS WEEK’S THINKING TASK was……

Who’s throwing the snowballs and why?

This week’s stories come from 4/5S

Stay tuned next week for 1/2K.

It was a scorcher of a day. It was so hot, Jimmy

and I flipped through the phone book, looking for

a solution and Jimmy found an ad. It was for a

robot called, ‘Snowball Maker-Matic’.

So, we rang and we waited.

Soon it arrived. There it was just standing there.

We plugged it in and it said, “OVERLOAD!!”

Jimmy and I noticed that there was a sticker on

it, and it said, ‘Pre-Owned’.

Someone had put it into overload. It started

throwing snowballs at us.

“Duck for cover!” Jimmy said, as he and I got

pounded to the ground……….

Excerpt by Oscar Erard-Farmer

One day my family and I went to a skiing place.

My cousin, Tom fell down a hill.

Suddenly, a snowman popped up out of nowhere

and started to bombard Tom with snowballs.

Quickly, I made a huge snowball and rolled it

down the hill…….

Excerpt by Alex Rose

We were all at Falls Creek with the family; Mum,

Chloe, Chelsea and me. Suddenly, Mum felt

something. She turned around and saw something

run away.

She walked over and found a hideous, smelly

creature. Mum yelled, “ Ahhhh!”

The thing started throwing snowballs….

Excerpt by Ellie Fishlock

I was minding my own business when I touched

the hot tub and I was suddenly at the North Pole.

A minotaur was pegging snowballs at me, so I

started fighting back…..

Beginning by Jack King

Dad had been in the shed for weeks, working on

something.

One morning, I was woken by a yell. It was dad.

I ran down the stairs and hugged Dad. Behind his

shoulder, I could see a big satellite. Dad saw me

staring.

“That is the ‘Snowball Satellite 1000000. 5.5 for

short! Watch this!”

He pressed a button and the satellite shot up in

the blink of an aye and started firing snowballs….

Excerpt by Adrian Mulham

Again and again, the snowballs pounded into my

fort, and again I got splattered by snow.

I just don’t understand why Harry is so angry.

All I did was step on his ‘RC Car’.

Anyway, I got some snowballs and charged out of

my fort. I pelted some at him and he cried out

when one knocked his glasses off.

I saw my advantage, so I………
