What is the problem?

The Delmar Bridge was built in 1968. More than 40 years of salt use have contributed to the deterioration of the concrete and beams.

The Delmar Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 170 needs to be replaced.

It is more cost effective to remove and replace the Delmar Bridge than to complete the extensive maintenance the bridge requires

• Memorial Day 2011 through Labor Day 2011•Similar to Dougherty Ferry over I-270 closure in 2007

• Minimizes length of inconvenience to general public, emergency services and school districts• Ramps to remain open, except for short periods

Other option – staging traffic

• Build bridge in two stages – one half at a time• Significant traffic slowdowns – reducing lanes from six to four would result in excessive back ups• Construction would take significantly longer

•Telegraph Bridge in South St. Louis County was staged in 2007-2008. It took 18 months to complete.
