INGLEBURN HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2016 Page 1 DECEMBER 2016 Hello to all students, parents, carers and staff. Once again Term 4 has ended at a fast filled pace. This time has been filled with great memories of students doing their academic and sporting best; such as many fieldwork and excursions, Australian wide rock and Water training for teachers, UWS steps into Uni for Year 9 Exam weeks iSTEM planning for the new Year 9 elective Kids Canteen opening, Year 7 Orientation Day and student support transition integration, a fantastic Presentation Day; and the list goes on. In 2017 will see Ingleburn High School in its last year of the school 3 year plan. Our strategic priorities of setting high expectations for students, inspired teaching practice by staff and connecting our community through increased parent support, business partnerships and our P&C committee will be reviewed through out the year and the school community will be consulted about what chan ges or priorities the school could have for 2018 - 2020 There will be lots of action in the classroom next year around teaching and learning. Darko Levkovski was appointed as Head Teacher Teaching and Learning and has some excellent ideas to share with the staff to engage our students in new and better practice. Also the school have engaged 5 staff as instructional coaches to support teachers in the classroom in the implementation of visible learning and quality teaching rounds. In term 3 all staff will participate in visible learning training to build upon the successful integration of learning intentions and success criteria for students to understand what is needed to achieve in class each lesson and assessment tasks. So watch this space!! Congratulations to Jenny Young who has been appointed to Liverpool Girls at Head Teacher CAPA starting day 1 2017. Jenny has been a light house for music in this school and will be sadly missed but warmly embraced by her new school. All the best to Jenny. Year 12 have now finished their HSC exams and for some it is the culmination of 13 years schooling, but for others it is a new lease on life and fresh beginnings. Now the anticipation of their results will soon turn into reality. To all those Year 12 students I wish them well in their future academic endeavours, post school to work destinations or whatever their future holds. The exam supervisors would also like to pass on their congratulations to all students on their approach and attitude to the HSC exams. Their punctuality and application allowed the exams to run smoothly and on time. Year 11 students are well into their Year 12 course work this term and are now officially Year 12 students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students for adopting a more serious approach to their studies in their HSC year. If you are experiencing class work difficulties or a personal problem make sure you contact the school for assistance, don‘t leave it till it is too late and get overwhelmed. There is always a way to sort out problems if you put your hand up early. But for some the N determination process has begun so If you have received a letter from the school about missed tasks then please contact Mr Hugo immediately after the holiday break. The first English assessment task was 30% of the total course mark!! Just a reminder from the last newsletter. School subject fees will require payment for students to maintain their participation in Electives. If your child has chosen an elective that has a fee and you are having difficulty paying this fee then please contact the Principal to discuss some options. There is a range of non-fee or low cost subjects students can choose from and they are fantastic options to consider. This policy has been endorsed by the P&C of Ingleburn High School. The P&C is a great organisation and provide much needed support for our students. The tireless work of Sue Roberts and her team help the school in many fundraising endeavours and school functions to raise money for school programs and promotional activities. If you would like to join the P&C they meet at the school every 4th Wednesday of the month. We look forward to seeing you there. Again thanks for a great 2016 and supporting the Ingleburn High School Learning Community. Ingleburn High School is a great place for students to achieve their potential because great things happen here. We look forward to meeting all the students next year and we will welcome a new cohort of Year 7 students who are eager and keen to be at high school. I hope Santa is kind and if you don’t believe you won’t receive. Enjoy the holidays and if you are travelling, have a safe and restful time and we will see you all in 2017.

DECEMBER 2016

Hello to all students, parents, carers and staff.

Our strategic priorities of setting high expectations for students, inspired teaching practice by staff and connecting our community through increased parent support, business partnerships and our P&C committee will be reviewed through out the year and the school community will be consulted about what chan ges or priorities the school could have for 2018 - 2020

There will be lots of action in the classroom next year around teaching and learning. ANTI-RACISM – A MESSAGE FROM THE ARCO

Ingleburn High School has a strong commitment to Multicultural Education, equity and equality. These beliefs permeate all of our school policies including our Anti-Racism Policy, the Cultural Diversity and Community Relations Policy, Multicultural Education in schools, the Aboriginal Education and Training Policy and the Complaints Handling Policy, amongst others. This ethos is embedded in our teaching practice and not only is it taught explicitly to students, but it also forms part of our expectations of the safe, respectful learners that attend Ingleburn High School.

Any member of the school community has the right to lodge a complaint and seek a favourable resolution if they have been the victim of racial vilification in the school context. The resolution of such complaints can be either formal or informal depending on the severity and frequency of the abuse. It is my duty as an Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO) of Ingleburn High School to handle such complaints and to provide mediation, education and monitoring that leads to reduced recidivism of racial abuse in our school.

If any student experiences such vilification, they are encouraged to speak to their teacher and to see myself in the History, Languages and Music Faculty in B17. If you have any questions regarding our policies or the resolution process, please contact me through the school’s front office.

Mr D. Levkovski ARCO Representative

INGLEBURN HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER – DECEMBER 2016 Page 3

TEXTBOOKS, GENERAL SERVICE CONTRIBUTIONS and SUBJECT FEES The school arranges to lend students text books and, in general, it is not necessary for parents to purchase class text books. The loans are made on the understanding that the school will be compensated by parents if their student loses or damages a book.

A significant proportion of school funds are spent on buying texts and on maintaining and replacing damaged books. The New South Wales Government provides a special allowance to the school to subsidise the costs associated with purchasing and maintaining text books.

The amount of the text book subsidy is not sufficient to meet all the costs associated with buying and maintaining the books. The General Service Contribution is used to meet the costs of providing such items as duplicated class teaching materials, audio-visual materials and equipment for use by students and teachers, sporting equipment, Library resources, stationery, and the balance of funds required for textbooks.

Fees – These will require payment for students to maintain their participation in Electives. In Years 9 and 11 student fees will have to be paid before students can begin these electives. A 30% deposit (eg. Year 9 Food Technology fee is $50.00, 30% deposit is $15.00) will need to be paid as soon as possible at the beginning of Term 1 and the balance to be paid by Week 10. These fees may be paid by instalments through the year. An EFTPOS facility is now available for payments.
