Mike Martin has been ap- pointed interim director of facilities planning in the Business Affairs Division. The appointment, an- nounced by Interim Vice President for Business Affairs Frank Lebens, is effective from Dec. 2 through March 27, 1992. Martin will be assisting Lebens in the development of the major and minor capital outlay program submissions, reorganization issues in the facilities planning area, and other facilities planning projects. Martin came to Cal Poly as head of the Architecture Department in 1985 . His academic background in- cludes a Ph .D. in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington, Seattle, and a Bachelor of Archi- tecture from the University of Col- orado, Boulder. New department head Dr. Edwin H. Jaster has been named department head of Dairy Science. The former University of Illinois associate professor will begin his new duties Winter Quarter. The appointment runs through August 1993. McDonald appointed Anna J. McDonald, director of affirmative action, has been designated coordinator of Cal Poly efforts to prevent discrimination against the handicapped, both students and employees. She suc- ceeds E. Douglas Gerard, who recently retired. McDonald will be responsible for compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which prohibits the California State University from discriminating on the basis of a handicap. Retirement reception Richard "Dick" Brug, director of public safety, will retire Tuesday, Dec. 31, after 31 years in law en- forcement and nearly 14 years at Cal Poly. A coffee reception in his honor is planned at Public Safety from 2-4 pm on Friday, Dec. 13. Martin appointed facilities planning interim director
