Tell us about yourself. Where did you grow up, where did you go to school, how did you come to work at Stacey... I was born in North Dakota and my family moved to Tacoma, Washington when I was 3 years old. I graduated from Lincoln High School and still keep in touch with many of my high school friends. I lived in Tacoma until 1964 when my husband went active duty in the Medical Army Corp. I lived the military life with my family for 20 years. These were good years and even though the constant moving from and to the assigned duty locations may be hard I do feel that as a family we learned a lot and made many lasting friends. I have worked in the school system for 28 years. After my children were in college I started working at Fort Sam ISD and 9 ½ years ago was thinking of retirement, but decided instead of moving to another district. I was blessed that Lackland had an opening and hired me. Will you describe your family? I have 3 daughters. My oldest has her Doctor’s Degree in Education Leadership and is an elementary principal in the Northeast district. My 2 other daughters live in Arizona. One is the Technology Director for the Desert School District and the other is the Administrative Director of SNR Denton Law Firm. I am lucky to have 4 wonderful grandchildren, ages 9-18. I enjoy sharing valuable time with them and I do a lot of traveling with my grandchildren. We leave the parents at home! How long have you worked at Stacey? Have you enjoyed this time here? I have been here 9 ½ years and I told Dr. Roper that these years have been my best of the 28 years. What is one thing that working here has taught you? Patience, but I will admit that I do lose this at times! What is the best part of your job? Interacting with people and I think being around students has made me stay young at heart. What was the most difficult part of your job? All the scheduling and trying to fulfill everyone’s needs. What was your most memorable moment at Stacey? When Gary Madden retired we had the dinner the week after Christmas. Even though we were on vacation the staff helped with the planning and decorating/set up. Almost everyone came to honor Gary. Even current and former students came. It was great to see everyone come together to honor a special person. I also have to include working with Mr. Hollomon in the kitchen serving the meals for dinner theatre. I know he thinks he serves the most lasagna plates but I don’t agree! If there was one thing about the school you could change or add, what would it be? Well, immediately I thought of Mr. Richard. So, I will also ask for an auditorium! What advice do you have for the students here? I suspect some students will not look favorably on this advice, but listen to your teachers and most important continue your education after graduation. What will you miss about being at Stacey? I don’t want to offend anyone, but I think when you have worked as many years as I have and at the age I am, I can’t think of a thing I will miss. What are your plans now? Will you Travel? Is there something else you would like to do? I have loads of plans. Yes, I will travel. I am planning to spend January and February in Arizona. In the spring I will drive to Washington and hopefully spend 2-3 months there. I will do some volunteer work at the schools close to my home and also at my daughter’s school. I love to work in my yard and tend to my flowers and rose bushes. I also enjoy crafts and reading. I am not worried at all that I will be bored and wish that I would not have retired! Is there anything else you would like to tell the Faculty staff and Students here at Stacey? Thank you. I will miss everyone, but it is time for me to say goodbye.

The Destination Imagination Elementary and Rising Stars teams traveled to Seguin, TX on Saturday, Dec. 4th to attend a theater arts institute. One of

the young Rising Stars thought Seguin was in another state and kept asking, “Are we there yet?” very soon after we had left Lackland. That’s a lesson for

another day.

The institute provided opportunities for the teams to practice pretending to be different characters, applying make-up to change their

appearance, making electrical circuits, and creating props and scenery out of common materials.

The team members learned a lot and had fun in the process. Who knew that you can create the scaly skin of a snake or lizard using oatmeal or

rice krispies? Or that you can add horns to your head or face with karo syrup, aluminum foil, and a pencil. All in all, it was a wonderful learning

experience and the teams look forward to using this new-found knowledge as they work hard to complete their upcoming challenges.

BABY HATS My name is Cory Johnson, and I am representing Stacey Jr Sr High on the subject of baby hats. My Family and Community Services class made baby hats that we are donating to the Threads of Love

Foundation. It is a non-profit organization that helps prepare a number of materials like blankets and hats and various other things for premature babies. This not only helps the babies, but the parents as well. I think we all understand that it’s not bad to get a little help in times of need.

We got the idea from a fellow student for a service project, and we immediately wanted to help. So we jumped right in. We started by picking the yarn and used Kniffty Knitters to create the

hats. We knitted a brim for the hat and put the ball on top and there you have it - a new hat.

When we finished we all got a feeling of accomplishment and felt good for giving back. I hope the hats warm the babies’ heads as much as it warmed our hearts.

Thank you

Sincerely Cory F. Johnson

Third graders in Mrs. Carrion’s class conduct a Science lab about erosion.

Ms. Enrado’s studying natural resources conserving them by reduce, reuse and recycle. Our teacher apprentice, Ms. Nina Motz on her last day this past Friday

gave my students pencils made from recycled tires.

First graders in Mrs.

Allen’s class work with attribute

blocks. The students have been studying

plane shapes, including the circle, square, triangle, and

rectangle.
