Kubler–Ross 5 Stages Of Dying

• Denial/Isolation

• Anger

• Bargaining

• Depression

• Acceptance

Steal Magnolia’s

• Sally Fields plays the role of a grieving mother “MaLynne” after

loosing her young Daughter Shelby.

• After the death of Shelby, MaLynne experiences the 5 stages of

death and dying based on the theory, of Kubler-Ross.

Denial/Isolation

• The first stage in the dying process

• The dying person denies the fact that

he or she is really going to die.

• Denial is usually only a temporary

defense.

• Eventually replaced with increased

awareness such as (financial

considerations, unfinished business,

and worry about surviving family).

Anger

• Second Stage of the dying process

• Denial gives away to anger

• During this process they question

“Why me?”

• During this process the dying person

envy's the living

Bargaining

• Kubler-Ross third stage of the dying

process

• The person develops hope that the

death can be postponed.

• MaLynne develops hope that her

daughters health will improve and

her daughters death will be delayed.

Shelby pleads with MaLynne to understand despite her health she wants a

baby.

Depression

• Kubler-Ross’s fourth stage of the dying

process

• The person comes to accept the certainty of

death.

• The person may become silent, and spend

much their time crying and grieving.

• Trying to cheer up a person at this stage

should be discouraged.

MaLynne’s friend is trying to comfort at the funeral.

Acceptance

• Fifth stage of the dying

process

• The person develops a

sense of acceptance

• It is considered to be the

final resting stage

Grieving

•Emotional numbness

•Disbelief

•Separation Anxiety

•Despair

•Sadness

•Loneliness
