1 Dear guests, we would like to present you something “new”. Actually it is not “new”, it’s rather we rediscovered it. At the time of our grandparents and great grandparents, there was a different “kind of cooking” (Merzedes or Orektika), in Greece. Friends and acquaintances met in little taverns, to have a glass of wine or Ouzo. While they were drinking they talked about everything under the sun. The table didn’t stay empty long, because in Greece you never drink, without having something to eat. You have small dishes called Merzedes or Orektika. People would choose their dishes from the pots and pans in grandma’s kitchen. This way you had cold and warm dishes on the table. It almost bent under all the small plates. With so much to choose from, the evening was a special treat for everyone. There was almost no room anymore for bigger plates and main courses. This kind of cooking was a family philosophy and a way of life, with recipes, which were handed down over generation to generation. Unfortunately this kind of cooking was almost forgotten 30-40 years ago, until Greece’s gourmets managed to rediscover it. These taverns in the countryside had a warm, friendly and traditional atmosphere. Very good tastes were always more important than perfectly decorated plates. Dear guests,

we would like to present you something “new”. Actually it is not “new”, it’s rather we rediscovered it.

At the time of our grandparents and great grandparents, there was a different “kind of cooking” (Merzedes or Orektika), in Greece.

Friends and acquaintances met in little taverns, to have a glass of wine or Ouzo. While they were drinking they talked about everything under the sun. The table didn’t stay empty long, because in Greece you never drink, without having something to eat.

You have small dishes called Merzedes or Orektika. People would choose their dishes from the pots and pans in grandma’s kitchen.

This way you had cold and warm dishes on the table. It almost bent under all the small plates. With so much to choose from, the evening was a special treat for everyone. There was almost no room anymore for bigger plates and main courses.

This kind of cooking was a family philosophy and a way of life, with recipes, which were handed down over generation to generation.
