• I believe in the constructivist's theory of learning - co-constructing zones for students developing into "expert scholars". Every day we use codes and patterns to communicate and I design my classes to provide students with tools to develop “critical consciousness”, enabling them to generate and develop topics, empowering them with the use of rhetorical (speaking and writing style) techniques, supporting their acquisition (obtaining) of tools to use appropriate organizing principles, helping them develop editing conventions, and assisting them as they build their ability to construct an essay and a research paper.
• I believe an instructor’s job is to introduce students to critical thinking (deconstructing or "reading" their world and texts) and to express that (reflective) thinking using written words (essays) including Socratic dialogue, critical interpretation, analytical techniques, and radical criticism. I am motivated to teach because I believe the change we want to see in society occurs through organic and dynamic systems of high impact learning and through relevant instruction. A great educator prepares for the unexpected and enjoys the adventures of being a teacher. A solid instructor is clear, concise and makes learning relevant. I employ Kinesthetic activities and constructing lessons into my courses to keep students interested and engaged, communicate often, am present in the class in every way, and genuinely care for the education of my students.
