18 NEWS FROM THE CAT RENTAL® Storenews from around the hastings deering network

forewordScott Cameron managing director

the start to 2011 has been another remarkable period, both locally and abroad. Flooding in Queensland saw Hastings Deering’s Rockhampton and Emerald branches out of action for nearly a month. As waters receded, the first people returning to a very muddy rockhampton branch were three professional snake handlers who managed to collect over 150 snakes over the ensuing weeks! it is testimony to the dedication and skills of our staff that the branch was quickly operational once the waters receded. workshops and warehousing, vital to servicing customers, were up and running at “full steam” within a week - and with no injuries. Throughout the inundation adjacent branches shouldered an additional load for the flooded branches. it is also testimony to the resilience of our branch network and of caterpillar support that there was no serious disruption to customer service during this period.

to customers and the communities who offered support during this time goes our very real appreciation. there is little doubt that this difficult period brought many communities and individuals closer together. hastings deering, caterpillar and our staff raised and donated nearly $300,000 for flood victims and like many who also contributed we watch with concern the inertia that seems to exist in applying our fundraising for the benefit of those who need it most.

although widespread flooding has abated, the impact of wet weather has not. the town of roma has suffered continued flooding and many roads in Central Queensland are still

closed to heavy transport as continuing rains take their toll. road restrictions have unavoidably delayed the delivery of machines to many customers. we are actively working with our transport suppliers and the government to get equipment out of our yard and into yours. compounding the effects of flooding, the devastating tsunami in Japan has caused disruption to the supply of some models. caterpillar factories in Japan were not directly affected, however several component suppliers have been and accordingly some excavators and wheel loaders are likely to be in restricted supply until solutions can be implemented.

as foreshadowed in the last dealer news, caterpillar has now officially launched their on-highway truck. Australia led the world, with a global launch of this newest caterpillar product at uluru in November last year. The result of a joint venture between caterpillar and navistar, there are two models (470hp and 550hp) now on offer. demand for both models has exceeded our expectations and there is very encouraging feedback on specifications and performance from experienced industry players. coinciding with the launch of the trucks, hastings deering has opened a new 12,000m², nine bay truck facility at Richlands, just off the Ipswich Motorway. it is dedicated to servicing the requirements of our trucking customers - exclusively. Feedback that we are getting on this facility is also very encouraging. we would welcome the opportunity to show you our facility and arrange a test drive. you can read more on page 9.

the buoyant mining and gas industries continue to afford hastings deering exciting prospects for the foreseeable future and together with caterpillar we are aggressively expanding our businesses and investing in capability to bring you our customer, an unmatched level of support for your earthmoving needs. Hastings Deering has several exciting projects underway that we look forward to describing in coming editions of dealer news. thank you for your support.

the proud new owner of a special waste handling cat® 305.5d hydraulic excavator, thiess services waste management northgate transfer station is the birth place of a sophisticated new setup. tracks removed, the new excavator sits stationary on a base slewing above a pit in which truck trailers are loaded beneath.

thiess services approached hastings deering with a plan. they needed to replace their tired and obsolete method of compressing the air-space in the B-double trailers. In search for a five to eight tonne machine, the 305.5D Hastings Deering presented cost half the price previously experienced and requires zero support equipment. equipped with a demolition and sorting grapple designed to perform in demanding conditions, the machine works ten hour days monday to friday and half a day saturday.

The mini excavator sits opposite the commercial waste drop-off zone in the newly upgraded transfer station waste shed and strategically sorts, loads and evens out the compacted waste that

is being loaded. achieving impressive results, the mini excavator loads a fleet of five B-double trucks for three cycles daily. condensed tightly, the waste is discarded in 35 tonne loads per truck.

engineered to deliver results, the 305.5d offered all the necessary solutions. capable of a reach of 5810mm, the unit offers advanced operator station controls and a centralised view of operations. with increased vision and an underfoot set of scales, the operator facilitates the rubbish being distributed over the truck axels evenly and according to state standards for transporting on main roads.

acting as a consultant throughout the entire purchase and setup stage of the mini excavator, hastings deering sales representative Peter Little is very impressed. “It’s something I’ve never seen before and puts a whole new spin on an excavator. generally we sell these machines for digging purposes, but this application is original.”

04 05

thiess services plant manager James perrett is also impressed with the performance of the 305.5D. “It’s fantastic and works really well. the setup has meant a reduction in capital and operating cost as the machine is locally supported, locally serviced, and uses local parts that are always in stock.”

Thiess Services operates a fleet of B-double and single 19 metre combinations between several transfer stations and two landfills located at Rochedale and Swanbank. At the Swanbank landfill, they operate a new cat d9t wha waste handling track type tractor on the front line. the d9t wha is supported by a cat 836g compactor which was originally purchased from hastings deering and was re-built in a half a million dollar upgrade, making small work of all tasks. the d9t wha is used for both the distribution of new day cover and the pushing of waste to the tip face.

the d9t wha with a combination of innovations optimises engine performance while offering superior operational control and vital information at the operator’s fingertips. The C18 engine performs at full-rated net power of 306 kW (410 hp) at 1800 rpm, and the large displacement and high torque rise allows it to doze through tough material. matched with extensive guarding to protect critical components and debris resistant features, the dozer provides dependable service.

at its peak, the unit proved itself by working around the clock during the recent flood cleanup. with 1085 trucks a day unloading at the landfill site, the operators have given the dozer a ‘big two thumbs up.’ The dozer moved anything put in front of its giant u-blade, and its operation onsite has lead to increased morale. site supervisor andrew sultmann said “this machine is

great and we are now equipped to move waste.” an extremely well balanced machine in all environments, the dozer offers sublime operator controls and low operating costs.

hastings deering will continue to provide ongoing product support and supply of lubricants, filters and parts. The machines are also equipped with product link and computer aided earthmoving system (caes) technology to maintain uptime and maximise effectiveness.

Being at the forefront of landfill design, construction and operation, thiess services operates to the highest standards of environmental control and compliance. The Swanbank landfill has implement state-of-the-art ReOrganic Energy® technology on the engineered landfill site to collect gas generated by waste decomposition and transfer it to sites where it is used as a fuel source in the generation of “green electricity”. the swanbank reorganic Energy project was the second of its kind in Australia, with gas from the landfill replacing some of the coal used at the neighbouring power station.

Thiess Services has a proud history as one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated, environmentally responsible services to a range of business sectors, including water, energy, contaminated site remediation, waste management, telecommunications and infrastructure management. with the addition of the new novel cat waste handling units, thiess services waste management is equipped to set standards for years to come. ●

tHieSS SerViCeS - waSte Handledestablished more than 20 years ago, thiess services has grown into a flourishing subsidiary of parent company thiess. with an innovative and flexible approach to the workplace, focus is placed on delivering long term, cost effective, environmentally responsible outcomes for clients while maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

It’s been 25 years since the introduction of the first Cat® backhoe loader and to help celebrate the anniversary, caterpillar has made 25 commemorative machines with silver commemorative features. with each dealer in australia being allocated only one, the new owner of this impressive machine in Hastings Deering’s territory is danny geissmann, from dcg backhoe hire.

originally starting out operating equipment in the mines, danny has always had a passion for construction. having worked his way down the coast of Queensland, DCG Backhoe Hire now primarily operates in the busy south east region.

With over 25 year’s experience, Danny’s business for the last 10 years has been involved in the majority of major road works in the sunshine state. Past projects include Leighton’s fibre optic cable network, safelink upgrade of the ipswich motorway and the houghton highway upgrade. earlier impressive contracts have seen danny travel around australia.

the most recent stand out addition to the current safelink upgrade is the limited edition 432e2 backhoe. finished in cat yellow, the commemorative machine features a chrome exhaust stack, leather seats, leather steering wheel, carbon coated joysticks, limited edition plaque inside the cab and the 25th anniversary decals.

recent enhancements to the popular e series range have seen operator acceptance and performance in a crowded market. new features include an inner sliding e-stick, new design loader arm, revised work station and factory installed hose burst protection.

currently danny has two cat backhoe loaders. he said “cat machines seal the deal” when tendering for work. they are solid machines, very hard working and take on any job at hand. “the service team who look after my equipment is unbelievable,” he said. “they are fast acting and always there for support. this is not to mention the 24-hour spare parts service that is available.”

Whether you’re digging, trenching, backfilling or handling material, there’s a Cat backhoe loader for the job. They are perfect examples of the strength, reliability and low operating costs, plus you can also choose from a wide variety of work tools to enhance versatility and productivity.

a strong supporter of cat equipment, danny would recommend cat backhoes to anyone. “you get what you pay for and cat will always deliver.” dcg backhoe hire is set to continue pounding the pavement as danny looks into purchasing his fourth cat backhoe. he is certain that his passion for the industry will live on through his grandchildren, who have shown an interest from an early age. ●

founded when two smaller companies operating in overlapping territories combined, proprietors Jai tomlinson and brendan flynn share a common factor, both are cat enthusiasts. with a growing list of construction sites currently in progress, black cat operate in civil industries and mining.

already with a fleet of 12 cat machines, they recently added a 20 and 30 tonne hydraulic excavator and a 140m motor grader as a means of upgrading ageing equipment. the new equipment will add exceptional power and performance to the machinery fleet that ranges from small MTL’s and Mini Hex’s to the larger construction equipment of 320d, 325d excavators and 4 x 140h motor grader.

When it comes to task, Jai and Brendan are very ‘selective’ and hard working. the customer relationship focused company spends a lot of time building on pre-standing associations whilst seeking new dealings. this has seen them become involved in a large number of jobs being managed by the Qld and Federal Government in which the graders are working in and around the central Qld area and the excavators are working on south east Qld motorway upgrades.

operating in vast and varying climates, black cat not only relies on cat equipment but expect the most out of their fleet. Jai said that they are extremely happy with Cat machinery, “we wouldn’t keep buying it if we didn’t like it.” Hastings Deering completes all major services, with the minor servicing being managed in-house due to location and frequent manoeuvrability of the fleet.

favourably, brendan said the product support knowledge supplied through the hastings deering sunshine coast branch is excellent. “the representatives help with everything from get selection, track and product link support.” the resilient machinery along with the excellent parts availability and overnight delivery service means that they can always focus on the job. “Cat machines seal the deal. they go, and go and go,” he said.

With a decision to never go over 10 machines and after five years of operation, black cat has already exceeded their own expectations. having signed deal for two more machines, with caterpillar and hastings deering support in the form of sales, parts and service, they are sure to cement a successful future throughout civil and mining industries in Queensland. ●

Cat® D SERIES MINI EXCAVATORS ADDINg MORE pERFORMANCE and operator ConVenienCe

Models 303.5D CR and 304D CR are zero tailswing machines that keep the radius of the upper body within the width of the tracks; models 305d cr and 305.5d cr are compact radius machines that limit upper body tail swing over the tracks to 5.5 inches (140 mm) or less. Both designs reduce the machine’s operating footprint and simplify the operator’s job.

increased width undercarriages for the 303.5d cr and 304d cr and heavier counterweights for the 305d cr and 305.5d cr significantly enhance machine stability, allowing increased lift capacity, more effective use of reach and digging forces, increased capability when handling heavy work tools and

improved machine balance for operator comfort.

a standard equipment two mode auxiliary hydraulic system, complete with lines and quick connectors, can be switched between single direction and bi directional operation for effectively using work tools ranging from hydraulic breakers to augers. the implement hydraulic system is a responsive, load sensing system resulting in low effort pilot controls for optimum control and fast cycle times. in addition, refined main valves for the 305D CR and 305.5D CR further enhance hydraulic controllability.

Durable, functional design similar to large excavators, d series booms feature a curved design for digging flexibility and fabricated box construction for strength and durability. the independent swing boom allows digging next to walls and obstructions, and an optional long digging arm for each model increases digging depth and lift height.

digging arms are also equipped with brackets to facilitate installation of a versatile hydraulic thumb, and relief valves for the thumb are built into the main valve. boom and digging arm cylinders are end dampened to reduce shock loads and material spills, and bucket rotation of more than 200 degrees not only assures improved material retention at height, but also makes flat-bottom trenching easier with less repositioning.

enhancing overall capability of the new d series models is a standard-equipment dozer blade that simplifies backfilling and clean-up chores. A float function allows the blade to follow ground contours with no operator correction. an optional angle dozer blade, which can be angled 25 degrees to either side, further expands blade versatility.

operator comfort and control

D Series models are available with a two-post canopy operator station, or with an optional enclosed cab that can be equipped with air conditioning. this spacious operator compartment offers a comfortable suspension seat, adjustable wrist rests, ample legroom and redesigned controls. the boom swing function is now incorporated into the joystick controllers, and auxiliary hydraulic controls also are positioned in the joysticks. An in cab control allows switching the joysticks between an excavator and backhoe type control pattern.

an automatic two speed travel feature shifts the drive system to meet changing torque and speed requirements, and a low speed switch keeps the drive system in low range for precise grading operations if desired. an automatic engine idle feature reduces engine speed when hydraulic functions are inactive for four seconds, saving fuel and reducing sound levels and emissions.

Easy routine service

extended routine service intervals for d series models save time and reduce operating costs. a cat s.o.ssm fluid sampling port for hydraulic oil allows accurate, periodic assessment of fluid condition during its life.

A side lifting hood allows access to the air filter, main control valve, auxiliary hydraulic flow selector, fuel filter and hydraulic tank. the swing out rear door provides an easy reach to engine oil check/fill points, vertically mounted engine oil filter, starter motor and alternator. the radiator and oil cooler are positioned for easy cleaning.

remanufacturing is the process of returning a used product, or “core,” to same-as-new condition in a manufacturing environment.

typically, aftermarket remanufacturing operations focus solely on reducing overhead costs, such as labour. labour amounts to approximately 35% of the total remanufacturing cost and therefore has limited impact because this focus ignores the larger cost-avoidance opportunity of 65%.

simply rethinking this business practice could have dramatic effects. stewart densley, group manager parts and service sales said “cat® reman focus is also on the other 65% of the cost found in the actual parts and components, allowing us to dramatically improve the overall remanufacturing cost.”

The benefit to the end user is greatly reduced costs.

with over three decades of experience and the resources of a global network, hastings deering has created a unique parts-recovery and salvage system that utilises our expertise in technology and logistical operations. “this provides our customers with reman services that meet any level of desired interaction,” stewart said.

salvage and cleaning technologies are vital in the remanufacturing process. each part undergoes a magnetic particle inspection for imperfections and cracks. 100% of mission-critical components undergo non-destructive testing.

what does this mean for your business?

it ensures the most precise and reliable quality for every reman component.

the process

when you return your core, it is inspected and the “core deposit” is refunded. typical remanufactured components are cylinder packs, water pumps and other engine components, hydraulic components or transmissions.

the core is completely disassembled into its constituent parts, down to the level of every individual nut and bolt. the parts are cleaned using environmentally friendly processes. then they are inspected for remanufacturability using detailed caterpillar reman criteria.

The individual parts are remanufactured to exact specifications to ensure they provide the same quality, reliability and durability as they did when they were new. Cat Reman’s proprietary technologies salvage a significant percentage of original material – reducing new parts usage.

all appropriate engineering updates since the component was originally manufactured are included. remanufactured components are assembled from the finished remanufactured parts.

the component is tested, painted and made ready for sale as a cat reman product. the same warranty, as any new cat part, of six months from the date of purchase, applies.

cat reman services is dedicated to helping you implement remanufacturing as an integral part of your overall business strategy. This, in turn, helps by producing a high-quality, lower-priced alternative.

cat® telehandlers give you the power, visibility and comfort you need to handle virtually any job and with the addition of the Cat access work platform, new heights are being reached in production.

fork mounted access work platforms are designed to add more versatility to the cat telehandlers than ever before. they provide a stable base to position operators up close to a variety of tasks. they are especially useful when performing high reach work such as building maintenance, painting, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning installations and allows production in terrain unsuitable for platforms and scissor lifts. other applications include forestry, plant maintenance, governmental agencies, and the sports and entertainment industry.

unlike most, when put to practice the efficient access platform allows the operator to control the machine from the platform. the operator can raise, lower, extend or retract the platform, as well as stop and restart the machine engine from this access point. the smart work tool also immobilises all cab controls when the machine is in platform operation mode and built in sensors prevent the machine from moving when the platform is raised above the road travel position.

With a size of 2.4m x 1.2m, the platform is designed for ease of transport and has multiple lanyard anchor points. the access platform features side entry/exit gate which is self closing and latching for operator’s convenience and features a removable front rail providing work area access and greater productivity.

the hydraulic system provides smooth, logical control of the boom and the access platform for greater accuracy and safety, especially when placing loads in challenging applications.

powered by proven cat engines delivering the horsepower and control you need for maximum performance, the access platform can extend the versatility of your telehandler and increase productivity.

built for performance and durability, not only the access platform but all work tools for the telehandler will deliver high productivity, long life and excellent value.

Some of the tools are:

• Access work platform • Block fork tines • General purpose bucket • Multi purpose bucket • Grapple bucket • Lifting Hook

THE INCREASED DEMAND FOR papua new guinea mineralS inCreaSeS tHe need to deVelop THE SkILLS LEVEL OF THEIR pEOpLE

rich in natural resources and with extensive reserves of natural gas and oil, the country is littered with riches. the mineral deposits of gold, copper and cobalt are in abundance and together with the forestry and agriculture industries, are proving to be a strain on the nation’s availability of skilled people to support these areas.

the 2011 expo is aimed at showcasing the high quality of australian training institutions in vet and their relevance for the resources, corporate and industrial sectors in png. with the spotlight on developing capability and capacity of their nation’s people, the event attracted key persons from all the resource, building, forestry and agriculture sectors in which information on educational needs were discussed.

hastings deering representatives that attended conferred with parties over technical post trade and operator training in relation to the mining, gas and oil sectors, as well as safety and compliance training for workers across a large range of the other industries. It was an opportunity to discuss first hand with the customer, their needs and different options in addressing their skills shortage.

the caterpillar machine simulators generated interest as a useful tool in the training with industries identifying the simulators as a means in familiarising non skilled equipment operators prior to introduction to the actual machines.

The simulators combine the finest in technology and operator instruction to create cutting edge training for heavy equipment operators. realistic controls ensure that the operator gains familiarisation and muscle memory using the same hardware as in the actual machine. They provide an easy-to-use, cost-effective and reliable training method.

chris amos, hastings deering institute of technology commercial manager said “by pre-training operators before letting them on an actual machine, you’ll better ensure the safety of all personnel and actual equipment. simulator training provides a way for operators to gain familiarisation and understanding of controls and master general operating techniques before training on actual machines.”

customers are becoming aware that hastings deering not only offers machine sales and customer service but are increasingly becoming a recognised provider of quality training and assessment services. ●

in July 2010, hastings deering institute of technology (hdit) in partnership with Thiess commenced an exciting pilot project to train 14 indigenous australians in a pre vocation diesel fitting school. Thiess Services, in collaboration with the Queensland department of education and training (det) and the department of employment, economic development and innovation (deedi) supported the development of the 20 week program which encompassed all basic aspects of diesel fitting, including safety, welding and the dismantling and reassembling of engines. the program also included two days of work experience every week for 16 weeks at either thiess or hastings deering workshops at Archerfield, Brisbane.

A great experience and in a situation that not many find themselves, the students were brought together from all parts of the state. the youngest student at 17 comes from Thursday Island in far north Queensland. There was also one female, who is a mother of six and a grandmother of two, showing that diesel fitting is no barrier to the fairer sex.

apprentice training instructor rod abbott has been training and assisting the apprentices in the daily problems that will sometimes arise. Rod is justifiably proud of the effort that the students were putting in; “from a very basic or non existent knowledge of diesel fitting, the participants have now reached the stage of stripping, rebuilding and running an engine.”

providing encouragement to the apprentices, hastings deering institute of technology and thiess were pleased to have rugby league legend michael hancock mentoring the students on Thursday evenings. His knowledge and insight in subjects of health and fitness provided real life accounts for the apprentices to learn from, but he was also there for general encouragement.

dave saxelby, managing director of thiess and scott cameron, managing director of hastings deering consolidated the support of all parties with a meet and greet in august with the honorable Andrew Fraser MP (Queensland Treasurer and Minister for employment, economic development and innovation) which was also filmed for a Stateline episode on the ABC.

all 14 students graduated from the pilot program which concluded on the 10th of december. the graduates were the guests of thiess at a graduation dinner held at southbank later that month

the students have expressed the pride that they felt in coming on board this program and gratitude for the assistance hastings deering and thiess gave them and all have agreed to help mentor the next 2011 group.

a common response from the attendees was, “we look forward to the future with excitement, and the honour that we can provide for our communities and families in being leaders for a new generation is something that will always live with us”

hdit manager, don macauslan said that all graduates have been offered employment with thiess including apprenticeships and other learning and development opportunities to further their chosen career paths. don said of the 14 graduates of the pre-vocational program, seven 2011 students have already commenced mainstream apprentice training at the institute leading to Certificate III in Engineering-Mechanical Trade (diesel fitting). ●

when an intrepid bunch of folk set off on a new 4wd charity event through western Queensland last year, they were simply out for a good time to help a good cause. few expected what most come to describe as ‘the experience of a lifetime.’

From October 17 to 23, the convoy of ‘outback angels’ in 4WD’s, utes and off-road coaches took part in everything from an outback Octoberfest in Jundah to raft races on Muttaburra’s Broadwater, yabbie races in aramac and dining with the dinosaurs on the Winton plateau. The inaugural Angel Flight Outback Trailblazer was a madcap, magical adventure that left its participants in awe of the land, exhilarated at the comraderie shared and deeply moved by the spirit of everyone involved.

for seven days and nights, teams explored bush roads, stunning scenery, waterways and wildlife while competing in the fun “four leaf clover challenge.”

a spectacular highlight was the 20 massed choirs from Queensland country towns and schools joined by Angel Flight Outback Trailblazer patron Tania Kernaghan and father ray kernaghan for an inspirational early christmas. the ‘deck the Hall’ Bush Christmas Pageant at the Stockman’s Hall of Fame even saw santa give his reindeer a spell to arrive by a traditional outback bullock wagon.

also on this years unique itinerary was a stirring welcome at Barcaldine’s Tree of Knowledge Memorial for VIPs aboard Queensland Rail’s Spirit of the Outback, drive-in movies at Jericho, a teddy bears picnic in Tambo and the 60s themed finale party in blackall.

Established in 2003, Angel Flight coordinates free non-emergency flights for financially and medically needs people to assist patients, families and carers travelling to and from medical appointments anywhere in australia. the funds raised through this event help to keep its vital service to the people of Australia’s outback regions operating.

Volunteer pilot ‘angels,’ who donate their time, skills, aircraft and the bulk of their costs, have so far flown more than 10,000 missions helping over 1800 people. The 2010 Outback Trailblazer raised over $100,000 for angel flight and are well on their way to reaching their target of one million dollars over the first five events.

Hastings Deering has been one of the major supporters of the first Angel Flight Outback Trailblazer and continues to support the good cause. this year the small outback town of Jundah with a population of 68, who played host to around 300 people keen to

party german style for an octoberfest to remember, was hastings deering sponsored event. well known entertainer John-Paul Young was the special guest at the event and kept everyone entertained.

The next Angel Flight Outback Trailblazer event is in 2012. the twelve river run will be held from the 22nd to 28th april which will include Anzac Day in the Outback.

We’re at Solid Energy’s Stockton coal mine before 8am on an extraordinarily bright, clear morning. following a fall of 10 centimetres of snow overnight, everything’s mantled in white. some 800 metres above sea level, on the stockton plateau, a cat® 992k wheel loader is moving towards what looks like several white hillocks….but are in fact mounds of coal, exposed as the six-metre-wide blade takes its first bite at one of them. Its first customers this morning are three cat 773 dump trucks.

Waiting in line behind the 773’s is the primary reason we’re at stockton, a trio of the new haulmax 3900d extended haulage dump trucks being operated by Stockton Alliance – the partnership between solid energy and downer edi mining nZ.

the coal in the stockpiles has come straight off a nearby face and will be carted from here three kilometres to the processing/washing plant – the load out area for which is known as Station 2. From there it’s carted along the main haul road to Station 5, at the top end of the aerial ropeway which transfers it down the ridge to the rail loading facility on the banks of the ngakawau River. On site, the 7.5 km haul road journey is known as “the 2 to 5.”

with a bucket capacity of around 20 tonnes of coal, the cat 992k wheel loader needs little more than two and a half scoops to fill the 773 trucks to their 55-tonne payloads. The Haulmax 3900Ds swallow close to four scoops. as the next step up the mine pecking order, they boast a payload of close to 80 tonnes – their size fitting between the Cat 773 and the “big daddy” cat 777 ohts.

the haulmax 3900d differs in more than name from its caterpillar counterparts. the 3900ds boast a 6x4 wheel configuration, with a more obvious truck-like chassis, tipper body

and cab layout. furthermore, despite having a huge commonality of drive train and wear components, they’re built not in the uSA by caterpillar, but in wynyard, tasmania by haulmax (aust) pty ltd.

a relatively new company, haulmax was originally established in Queensland in 2003 to fill a niche in the surface mining truck market – building units dedicated to extended haul cycles (upwards of 50 km cycles) on comparatively narrow roads. the shift to Tasmania was made just three years ago when the Company became part of the elphinstone group.

as an established oem, the synergy between haulmax and Caterpillar is immense. Some 95% of the wear-related parts of a 3900 are genuine cat components, ably sold and supported by authorised caterpillar dealers globally. this includes the c27

the following has been adapted from an article in the november 2010 edition of New Zealand Truck and Driver magazine titled “down in the dumpers”, where trevor woolston visited the stockton alliance site to put the new haulmax 3900d fleet through “the trevor test”. original story by brian cowan, photos by gerald shacklock. ACERT™ V12 engine, seven-speed automatic transmission, axles, wet disc brakes and general control systems. from the point of view of an operation like stockton alliance, the commonality of essential parts across the entire caterpillar / haulmax fleet is a real bonus.

at stockton, the haulmax 3900s are used primarily on “the 2 to 5” haul road. Though its length doesn’t fit the extended haulage profile of the Haulmax truck, its overall 1-in-20 downhill gradient fully loaded does, for the units are fitted with Caterpillar’s clever

arc (automatic retarder control) system. lockey mundy, the driver of one of the 3900ds, demonstrates: “compared with older dump trucks that had manual retarders, this system saves you so much strain during the course of a shift.”

the brakes on the front axle are dry, but those on the rear two are oil-cooled. A subsidiary radiator/cooler system fitted to the stockton alliance 3900ds ensures further reliability for the system, which is working hard for most of the length of “the 2 to 5”, with its 400-metre drop in elevation.

The round trip on “the 2 to 5” takes around 35-40 minutes for the three haulmax 3900ds on the run. at a maximum unit payload of 77 tonnes, this means they’re shifting 340 tonne per hour, neatly balancing the similar hourly capacity for the ropeway.

the haulmax 3900 series cab is surprisingly like a conventional on-highway truck, or even a light vehicle in its layout, with a near-vertical steering wheel in front of a simple instrument panel and the lever for the auto transmission looking like that on most cars – even down to the separate positions for first, second and drive.

taking off loaded, lockey comments on the spaciousness and comfort of the cab and points out the fully adjustable air-suspended seats. closer to the ground, the haulmax 3900ds independent front suspension and rear A-frame axle assemblies soak up most imperfections before they even reach the seats: “It jolts a bit more over the worst bumps when it’s empty, as you’d expect, but you can’t complain about how it feels with a load up, eh? This is luxury. the aircon works brilliantly, the seat is so comfy, the ride is great. There’s also a good stereo set, with a CD player and a uSB port.”

the dump body controls are on a similar quadrant to the gearshift and are common to the cat trucks. action of the Haulmax-developed twin front-of-body rams is very simple, very smooth and quick. There’s no need for a complex tailgate release, as Haulmax has settled for a simple pull-chain link through the chassis to the tailgate that opens it as the body lifts. there are no problems with locking claws getting knocked around and jamming – a risk particularly when rock is being carted. The tipping action is very smooth: “It’s quite a high body and comparatively narrow, but it goes up beautifully and the load slides out nicely,” says lockey.

at the dumping area on the second loop, the front tyres are beginning to sledge on the slushy snow at full lock. but lockey reckons the feedback from the tyres and the steering is good enough that it can easily be felt and the necessary correction made. He finds the brake and accelerator pedals to be very responsive, with good feel. the accelerator pedal is also set comparatively low to the floor so that strain on the ankle is minimised.

After a while in the cab of the Haulmax 3900, the truck’s comfort and comparative ease of operation can dull you to the fact this is a really big machine – and it’s only when you see somebody standing close to the two-metre diameter tyres that you realise these are very big toys indeed.

haulmax (aust) pty ltd is pleased to be associated with the hastings deering group, your authorised haulmax dealer in Queensland, the Northern Territory, Papua New Guinea,

the solomon islands and new caledonia (caltrac). ●

“It’s got a lighter tare and is cheaper to register and with a normal GCM of 50 tonne it’s a really handy bonus for us.”

As well as being familiar with the Cat engine’s performance, brims is very comfortable with the cat c13 fuel economy that they expect will stack up well over its expected million kilometre lifespan.

brims familiarity with the engine also transfers to the service department where company mechanics have a well-versed relationship with the requirements of one of road transport industry’s most dependable power plants.

“we do our own service, our own rebuilds, everything. We’ve got a major workshop with five staff in it, which is what you need when we’ve got 50 odd trucks in all sorts of configurations.”

The drive train is also comfort food for Brims’ mechanics. featuring industry standard running gear such as meritor rear axles, eaton fuller 18 speed transmission and hendrickson suspension, the outfit is configured and built to deliver the durability and performance cat equipment users have come to know for decades.

while brims group will be doing all service itself, they have taken advantage of an extended warranty package and are further reassured knowing the cat dealer network would deliver the ultimate support, according to wayne.

“We’ll just look after it like we do the rest of our trucks and if it breaks down badly we’ll just take it back,” he said.

“We normally keep trucks for about 10 years – we don’t really know how long this will last but we’re confident it will go the distance.

“We’ll really know after 12 or 18 months how good this truck will be,” he said.

Having just taken delivery there’s just one thing on the mind of Wayne Brims at the moment. “We can’t wait to get rego plates on it and fill it up full of gravel,” he said. “We’re not looking to run out tomorrow to buy another one as a truck and dog just yet, but we will probably look at one for an interstate application.”

“if this new cat truck is a good thing we might buy more.” ●

CleVer Cat truCk tareS in Queensland’s first Cat® truck has taken to the roads in tipper and dog configuration for well-known northern NSW haulage company, brims group.

speaking after taking delivery of the new ct610 in early march from Queensland Cat dealer Hastings Deering, Brims Group director wayne brims said it was the cat engine that proved the main attraction.

“It’s the Caterpillar engines,” he said. “Everything here is caterpillar and when cat stopped supplying engines to other brands we thought we’d try one of the Cat trucks next.

“We’ve been using Cat engines for years now and we love them. We’ve already got that many of them we know them inside out and know all the tricks – once you get one engine and master it, you know exactly what they can do and when they can do it – you know everything.”

Brims Group was established nearly 20 years ago by Wayne’s father Ross Brims and has developed to support a major fleet, running about 50 trucks throughout south east Queensland and northern NSW whilst the company has interests as diversified as sand quarries, hardware outlets and a truss company, “enough to entertain us everyday,” as wayne describes it.

“We’ve got a couple of our own sand pits so we do work for hanson and holcim and all the concrete plants around this region.”

the new cat also delivers a tare advantage with brims able to register it to carry 57 tonne gcm on the 16.5 tonne tare combination delivering a payload in excess of 40 tonne under Performance Based Standard (PBS) rules – a load Wayne describes as “brilliant”.

“We’ve got access to the PBS allowance because of the truck configuration and because most of our quarries are also on the allowed B-double routes – and this tipper will actually carry more weight than our 19 metre B-double on the fleet,” Wayne said.

new pOWERFuL AND agile - 259b SERIES 3hastings deering is pleased to announce the release of the cat® 259b3 series compact track loader (ctl). the smallest of the ctl range, the 259b3 builds on the upstanding reputation of excellent quality and performance of cat compact construction equipment.

The 259B3 is a high-performance, highly maneuverable addition to the compact range. by combining its small frame ctl platform with the cat c3.4t dit engine, high breakout forces and strong auxiliary hydraulic performance, the 259b3 is a “power dense” machine capable of taking on the toughest jobs in confined spaces. with premium features such as an independent, fully suspended steel undercarriage, aggressive steel embedded rubber tracks, powerful hydraulics and refined operator’s station, this completes the ctl line by providing a durable, versatile machine that works productively in poor soils and harsh environments.

at 35% tipping load, rated operating capacity for the 259b3 is 937 kg, and 1,338 kg at 50 percent tipping load, increasing to 1,360 kg with the optional counterweight. Vertical-lift loader linkage gives the new ctl 120 inches (3,046 mm) of lift height, in combination with excellent reach, for easy truck loading and precise material placement.

rated at 71 net horsepower (53 kw) the 259b3 is powered by the c3.4t dit engine. this proven engine delivers ample speed and torque in difficult applications, and combined with the Cat anti-stall system, the 259B3 can operate at part-throttle, reducing fuel consumption and lowering sound levels.

Durable, easy-riding undercarriage

the 259b3 is the only machine in its class with a standard, independent, fully suspended undercarriage. designed and manufactured by caterpillar, the undercarriage uses four heavy duty torsion axles. these axles move independently to isolate the machine chassis from the undercarriage and absorb much of the shock from rough terrain operation. This benefits the suspension in the form of smooth travel, even at high speed, excellent load retention, increased productivity, as well as extended machine and undercarriage component life.

High-performance hydraulics

Hydraulic pumps for the 259B3’s implement system (boom and bucket) and auxiliary system (for powering work tools) are driven directly from the engine, eliminating intermediate drive belts to assure maximum efficiency, performance and reliability.

it is equipped with cat toughguard Xt™ hydraulic hoses, for additional abrasion resistance, and auxiliary lines (with heavy duty, flat face quick couplers) are attached to the lift arm.

A high-efficiency hydraulic-oil cooler, working with a hydraulically driven cooling fan, keeps the 259B3 working efficiently in high ambient temperatures, even with continuous work tool operation.

Operator comfort, convenience and safety

Designed for optimal comfort, convenience and safety, the 259B3’s spacious operator’s compartment features low effort, pilot control joysticks. The joystick provides precise proportional control of auxiliary-hydraulic functions, and provides the convenience of one-touch control of continuous or intermittent auxiliary flow.

An anti-stall system is designed to prevent engine stalling, even at part-throttle, by constantly balancing speed and torque demands. The redesigned dead-engine lower valve further promotes safe operation by providing an easier-to-use, more positive means of lowering the lift arms allowing safe exit for the operator if the machine should run out of fuel or the engine stall with the lift arms raised.

Easy to service

The 259B3’s rear door swings open to allow access to both sides of the engine and all routine maintenance points. an exclusive tilt-up cooling package permits the radiator and oil cooler to be quickly cleaned, and the tilt-up cab provides access to all major hydraulic components and lines. to further assist the service technician, all electrical wiring is color coded, and a cat s.o.s.tm sampling valve assures regular, accurate monitoring of hydraulic fluid. ●

eli is based on elc (extended life coolant) that has proven itself in both extreme high and low temperature environments as a premium coolant offering unsurpassed protection in cat engines since 1996. the main difference between the two products being elc is glycol based and eli being water based.

eli has a life expectancy of 12,000 hours with a one off dose of extender added typically at 6,000 hours. caterpillar and hastings deering recommend that all cooling systems have scheduled oil sampling samples taken regularly.

ELI provides unsurpassed protection of Aluminium Components

aluminium is commonly used in modern diesel engine components and cooling systems. when supplemental coolant additives (sca) mixed with water is used as a coolant, significant corrosion of aluminium components can result.

In testing, Cat ELI demonstrated that it provides significantly better aluminium protection than two commonly used conventional sca products. in fact, the cat eli showed nearly no aluminium corrosion at all.

Years of Caterpillar field experience with engines show similar results. cat eli is the best protection you can get for applications where glycol is not desired. ●

Caterpillar has released a new coolant that suits Hastings Deering’s Queensland and northern territory climate. eli is a concentrate that can be mixed with good quality water. this feature makes eli coolant the right choice for the environment. eli uses advanced formula active protection technology composed of organic additive corrosion inhibitors to help avoid the problems experienced with conventional coolant and other water-based products.

established in 1999 and based out of toowoomba, matilda equipment is a budding earthmoving equipment hire company with a strong market presence in Australia’s mining and construction sectors.

currently operating a fleet of 58 machines including 52 cat® dozers, graders, excavators, loaders and compactors, matilda equipment continues to develop relationships with many of Australia’s leading miners and contractors operating in Queensland, Northern Territory, western australia, new south wales and victoria.

supplying late model, low hour heavy earthmoving equipment, managing director dan Jauncey has recently started to transform a number of his cat machines into attention grabbing units.

plenty of parents might only chuckle at the thought of their six-year-old daughter asking them to paint a large piece of their work machinery pink, but not dan. when daughter lucy suggested he paint one of his Cat dozers pink (her favourite colour), not only did he comply, but he named it after her and figured out a way it could raise money for charity.

with two of the three pink track type tractors hard at work in a port headland mine in western australia and a coal mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, the third and final dozer is now painted and ready for deployment.

dan said a donation per machine is being made to the pink ribbon foundation for breast cancer research. this foundation is close to the Jauncey family, having been touched by the disease; they are keen to raise as much money possible.

the pink machines have caused a stir among the mining companies that took employment of them. “they have been received really, really well and people are embracing them,” dan said. “staff have adopted the pink machines and they have even made appearances in local newspapers and corporate films.”

initially expressing somewhat of a hesitation, dan said “I don’t know what the boys on site at the mine will think,” but the good deed and graphic display is all in the name of a good cause and everybody is really rallying behind them. with demand for heavy earthmoving equipment again at an all time high, matilda equipment is well placed to deliver attention grabbing outcomes for the company’s valued clients and charity. ●

It borders the northern territory to the west and south australia to the south. the three towns within the shire are betoota, bedourie and Birdsville which is located just inside the South Australian border sitting atop the Birdsville Track – the all important link to adelaide city.

in constructing and maintaining gravel roads to a very high standard, council utilises triple side tippers with a capacity of 75 cubic metres, water trucks carrying up to 75,000 litres, loaders, graders, rollers and an rm500 stabiliser. increasing production and lowering costs of construction, with access to the right amounts of gravel and water, this plant combination can re-sheet 1.5 kilometres of road per day.

diamantina shire council maintains over 1,684 kilometres of roads, the majority of which are dirt or gravel with only 190 kilometres of bitumen road in the whole shire. operating in a fleet of six, the new graders will be put to task maintaining the road network, in which the council considers themselves as ‘specialist.’

Council’s overseer, Kevin Barr, reports productivity improvements in the field with the 140M graders, “I am pleased with the operator acceptance of the new technology and the fuel economy of the tractor.”

the graders and loader were delivered by hastings deering mount isa branch sales representative grant samson.

no stranger to the remote shire in the far western corner of Queensland, Grant has serviced the area for over 20 years and said “diamantina shire is the largest shire in the mount isa coverage area we service and it has the largest fleet of caterpillar equipment, ranging from graders, wheel loaders, skid steers and paving equipment.” over the years, grant has delivered approximately 40 machines to the shire.

The Council’s policy to trade plant in at set intervals keeps its maintenance costs down as it is able to obtain a maximum return on investment which is reflected in the trade in values. the sometimes stringent strategy means that the shire has a good reputation for turning over quality second-hand Cat equipment and they plan to maintain that reputation.

Diamantina Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Robbie Dare, Deputy Mayor, Cr Barry Gaffney and Chief Executive Officer, Scott Mason said, “the back up after sales service including parts, service and product support has made it easy for council to continue to purchase caterpillar equipment.” on top of that, the council has a great working relationship with grant samson and the hastings deering mount isa branch as they continue to set new standards and utilise the cat legacy of high quality you can trust. ●

tHe new Cat 938H bATCH pLANT SpECIALalthough we always listen to our customers, it’s not always that Hastings Deering gets to test for the perfect solution. batch plant operators have continually challenged the industry to help improve production by supplying a wheel loader that will reduce the number of passes required to perform a batch.

the simple solution for operators is to get a bigger loader, but

unfortunately this has two problems. firstly, it means increased

cost. And secondly, and equally important there are size restraints.

batch plant space is at a premium and a bigger loader becomes

too cumbersome to batch quickly. They may be bigger but a size

increase in the wheel loader causes the operator to slow down and

cycle time decrease, so no advantage is gained.

the cat 938h batch plant special (bps) has come about after two

years of consultation with Caterpillar and Hastings Deering Quarry

and industrial manager, paul soden. “we have previously achieved

success with the 928g bps about six years ago and it was a case

of convincing caterpillar of the potential in the 938h and the need

to increase its carrying capacity to 5.5 tonne,” paul said.

The predecessor of the 938H didn’t offer the opportunity for a

bps due to lower carrying capacity. the g series needed a second

pass to collect 200 - 300kg of materials when doing a batch for a

9.6cum agitator and this meant one too many.

standard now in the new h series is an increased carrying capacity

and equipped with the counterweight off the it38h, we were on

the road to success. the 938h needs to able to carry the 5.5 tonne.

This modification revolved around having Caterpillar involved

so the machine can be fully risk assessed from factory.

knowing that most material has a density of 1500kg/cum,

caterpillar designed an aggregate bucket with a 3.7 cum capacity.

They also incorporated some unique features beneficial to a batch

plant. these included a special deflector plate at the top of the

bucket so any material that spills over the top would be deflected

down the sides and away from the loader frame and the lift and tilt

cylinders, curved side to better retain loads and bolt-on heel plates.

The first trial was held by Caterpillar last November in Brisbane

and was a total success. the machine exceeded all of caterpillars

expectations. it was able to handle 5.5t and eliminated that extra

pass when loading 9.6cum agitators. the operators were also very

impressed with its performance. they commented that it had good

breakout force, handled big loads and was fast and easy to control.

the air conditioned cab provides superior comfort and the operators

agreed that the setup provides superior visibility. they also

appreciated that all servicing and refuelling could be done

from ground level. ●

bOuNCINg bACk AFTER THE FLOODSthe brisbane floods brought much hardship and devastation to the people of south east Queensland in January, but what it showed was the true community spirit and resolve of people to chip in to help their neighbours recover from adversity.the earthmoving industry played a big role in the recovery with excavators, skid steers and loaders crawling the streets clearing debris. but there were also contractors affected by the floods, with a large number of machines inundated on the Origin Alliance job at goodna. one of which was shaun cunnane from bancross pty ltd.

as the waters subsided, shaun saw his cat 432e backhoe loader had taken a direct hit, and being an owner operator, his first priority was to get back to work. this task was easier said than done as he had to wait for the insurance assessors who were in high demand due to the scale of the devastation.

shaun approached hastings deering to see if there were any units available through the cat rental® store, but with every machine out working on various sites, it appeared he may lose his contract without a machine to operate.

having ultimately decided to purchase a new machine only to realise that it was stuck on the wharf, hastings deering sales rep Brett Lenz made a quick decision and approached used equipment. more than obliging, shaun borrowed a used 432e backhoe until his new machine could be delivered, allowing him to get through his obligations.

taking delivery of his new cat 432e it approximately one month after the Goodna job reopened, Shaun was relived to see his new machine. excited to get into the operators seat, he said the new machine is great and versatile.

the new 432e it machine equipped with a toolcarrier configuration has allowed Shaun to expand the range of work. knowing that hastings deering is available for around the clock care in the form of parts and service, shaun can push the limits and keep his equipment in peak condition. ●

Caterpillar’s Vital Information Management system (vims®) is a powerful tool for machine management that provides operators, service personnel and managers information on a wide range of machine functions. the vims system helps manage your entire fleet by letting each machine provide you with up-to-the-minute information about its own health and the working conditions around it.

with numerous sensors integrated into vehicle design, vims detects an impeding or abnormal condition in any of the machine’s systems, and will alert the operator and instruct them to take appropriate action. this may consist of modifying machine operation, notification of needed maintenance, or performing a safe shutdown of the machine. such awareness improves availability, component life and production while reducing both repair cost and the risk of a catastrophic failure.

in 2010 at bma peak downs coal mine a condition monitoring project was initiated between Hastings Deering Technology Solutions Group and BMA Peak Downs. The project used trends and selected parameters off the 32 Cat off highway trucks on-site, which are monitored for signs leading to failure. by utilising vims and the hastings deering minestar vims reporting service (mvrs), engine, transmission and braking systems are all monitored to provide early detection of failure.

The project has successfully rectified two developing defects. left untouched, the two shortcomings would have lead to reduced power and shortened engine life.

The next stage of the project for BMA is to install two Health interface modules (him) on site and utilise wireless technology to download and reset the on-board VIMS data. This will allow for near real time event reporting and also daily critical trending reports by providing fast remote data downloads over a site-based radio system.

the electronic sensors and control system on your cat equipment can generate huge volumes of information that can help you monitor machine health and condition, track equipment hours and usage, optimise work flows and production cycles, maximise equipment uptime and reduce cost-per-ton. With all this data available, your cat equipment can tell you a lot about its own performance and health. ●

SANTOS gETS THE FuLL Caterpillar treatmenthastings deering has completed the start up and commissioning of five relocatable cat® g3406 and g3408 petroleum generator set packages for santos. an australian energy pioneer since 1954, santos is one of the country’s leading gas producers. these cat gen sets will be used at hermitage and Fairview to power the company’s relocatable water treatment plants. “operating out of its towoomba branch, hasting deering is the leading engine service provider for Santos in central Queensland,” explained scott harris of energy power systems australia (epsa).

“when these cat natural gas gen set packages were assembled into complete self contained enclosures and made ready for delivery, representatives from hasting deering participated in the factory acceptance testing in brisbane. they also conducted the sites’ inspections. After EPSA delivered the gen sets, hastings deering carried out the start up and commissioning, which included setting and adjusting these low emission engines for the site conditions,” scott added. “most importantly, they

earn customer loyalty by consistently delivering customer service to santos operations in remote areas that ensures the engines run reliably.”

these cat gen sets will be used as part of a water treatment process. This way, mineral-laden water that is captured from drilling can be safely returned to the environment. the cat gen set packages will not only power the transfer pumps on the surface that take this water to the holding dams, they will also power the treatment process.

natural gas is a clean, reliable and affordable energy source. Australia’s abundant natural gas resources offer immediate and long-term potential to meet baseload power needs while significantly reducing the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. as an additional environmental consideration, santos has also insisted that the engines in these gen set packages be low-emission. “This is quite unique for Cat engines of this size,” scott emphasised, “but we were able to deliver.”

as scott surmised: “for the life of our engines, caterpillar, hastings deering and epsa work as one to be easy to do business with and deliver the best overall value available to our customers”. ●

Delivered to Oz Earthmoving is a new Cat CS56 roller with front blade. based in cooktown, leigh has four other cat machines in his fleet and will use the roller in building and maintaining dirt roads in the cook shire. the blade is used for spreading loose dirt when the trucks drop a load, which is then spread and compacted by the padfoot drum.

The first of the three new Cat 963D track loader with waste handling arrangement was delivered to moreton bay regional council. the machines were purchased to replace their cat 953C’s at the Bunya and Dakabin Landfill sites. The multi purpose machines feature increased guarding to help maintain uptime in a waste application.

Hastings Deering Darwin’s Service department is riding high on a job well done after they completed an overhaul on an r2900 underground bogger. the bogger is used in Newmont’s Tanami gold mining operations, located on aboriginal freehold land in the remote tanami desert, 550 kilometres west of alice springs.

with a site visit last year to view the machine and to grasp the scope of the project, the R2900 rebuild for Newmont was won by hastings deering darwin through a tender process. from the initial phase of quickly preparing a competitive quote, the team was thrust into preparation with organising and preparing for the somewhat modified rebuild agenda in the background of the day to day running of the service department.

working around the clock, two shifts were assembled to ensure a quality product was delivered on time and on budget. with an estimated time frame of four weeks, the rebuild team had a deadline fast approaching with the christmas heavy haulage road restrictions coming into effect. leading hands grant bevington and Darryl Tuckett led a dayshift crew of five and a nightshift crew of four for the duration of the rebuild through what was a well managed and organised rebuild.

leading the way for future machine rebuilds, newmont had decided they would like several modifications carried out on this r2900 compared to a factory assembled machine. in achieving such result, the team called on the expertise of Hasting Deering’s Steve Lorimar for advice. With nine years experience of on-site labour support at the Granites gold mine under his belt, Steve’s knowledge and passion for underground equipment has been recognised and is unsurpassed, having implemented several modifications to one of Newmont’s earlier R2900’s with success.

Cooling pack mod’s, axle cooling mod’s, auto lubrication and air conditioner improvements, along with other various modifications will help to ensure machine availability and less downtime during scheduled maintenance periods. this will be advantageous to Newmont’s mining operation, allowing the 430hp underground loader, with its nine cubic metre bucket to be in full production.

under close observation from newmont representatives and hastings deering management, the team focused on safety and quality throughout the rebuild. Communication, job hazard analysis reports and “stop checks” saw the necessary attention to detail delivered.

This major task was an achievement for Hastings Deering and a sense of fulfilment was felt upon completion. With mining for gold more recently in the area beginning in the late-1980s, and upon finding larger and richer ore bodies, the rebuilt R2900 bogger is positioned to continue contributing to underground operations. ●
