Easter Church Services

The Christian Alliance Church has a nice mix of services through the Easter week-end. This Friday, April 14 at 7 pm is a ser-vice at the Church, just behind Sobeys. Good Friday is when Christ was crucified. On Sunday there is a ‘SonRise’ service at 7:30 am at Kinsmen Beach. It is always a wonderful service. Easter Sunday cele-brates the resurrection of Christ. They also have their regular in-Church service Sunday at 10:30 am. We have been discussing practical applications in today’s society form the book of James in the Bible. It has been very enlightening. Everyone is welcome to any and all of the services.

Live Music Mondays

The renovations are looking great at the Horsethief Creek Pub in Radium. Stop in and check it out soon. This Monday, April 17, ‘Dos Equis’ will be performing from 7 to 9 pm. Kathleen and Scott Ivers will have you tapping your toes all evening. The following Monday brings ‘Infinity Sol-stice with Lightning Lix Munroe’.

Open for Easter

Citadella Restaurant in Radium Hot Springs is opening up this weekend to begin their season. They are offering 15% off your meal if you mention their ad here in The Valley Peak. Citadella has incredible food. Filet mignon, chicken cordon bleu, beef stroganoff and much more. They are a Hungarian-based restaurant with some very savoury Euro-pean menu items. The desserts are inde-scribable. They also have a fantastic view of the val-ley around Radium. Give them a call at 250-347-9548.

Robservations

Easter weekend is upon us. It is a late one this year which causes many folks to won-der how we decide when to have Easter. Well, here it is. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. This allows for a very wide range (pretty much a month) of possibilities for the date due waiting for a full moon. This year, the Equinox was March 21 and the next full moon is this Tuesday evening (April 11). That makes this weekend Easter weekend. Remember the real meaning of Easter. It is a very important Christian celebration around the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Enjoy some time with your family. Love is important, more important than anything. Showing someone that you love them will make a huge difference in any life, includ-ing yours. Have some fun, eat well and play safe this weekend. Be nice to our visitors as we get a preview of the busy season. Have a happy Easter.

Particles

Scientists claim that the Universe is made up of protons, neutrons and electrons. It seems that part of my Universe is made up of morons.

Big Band Dance

The David Thompson Secondary School stage band is hosting the 34th Annual Big Band Dance on Saturday, April 29 at the Invermere Community Hall. This is an incredible evening out as Greg Constable has led these young adults to be fantastic musicians. You will be tapping your toes right off the bat as the music they play is fun and familiar. The evening includes a light buffet and a lot of dancing. Get your tickets soon! This one will sell out. Tickets are advance only ($25) at Lambert-Kipp Pharmacy, Majestic U-Brew, from any band student or by calling 250-342-9213, ext. 4503.

Watson’s

Waddle

I am really loving the w e a t h e r these days. With the snow gone our walks have really expanded beyond staying on the streets that have been plowed. That was a tough winter for active dogs and their owners. Now we are finding all kinds of new places out there. It is fantastic to find all the strange new scents, sights and sounds. Rob is taking me to lots of great spots. One thing to remember this time of year is ticks. It is the start of tick season. We have been doing lots of walks in the bush and around hiking trails which really exposes us to ticks. With my short legs I am drag-ging along the ground a bit so I am an easy target. The beauty of this is that Rob really checks me over well when we get home from a walk. I mean he is always very touchy and loving but after a walk these days I get a 100% full body rub down. I love it. I hope all you dog owners are doing the same thing. Rest assured that your pets love being loved and a good rubdown for ticks qualifies as true love.

Mutt

My dog barked at everyone and everything yesterday. Apparently he really is a cross breed.

What Year Was It?

Shirley Temple was born, Mickey Mouse made his first television appearance as ‘Steamboat Willie’ in a clip by Disney titled ‘Plane Crazy’ and Alexander Fleming dis-covered penicillin, beginning the age of antibiotics. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent were established, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to cross the Atlan-tic by plane (as a passenger) and the first Yo-Yo factory was built in California. What year was it? See page 9.

This Friday, April 14, get down to the In-vermere Legion for a classic roast beef dinner, including yummy Yorkshire pud-dings, potatoes, veggies, salad and des-sert at 6:30 pm. As always, you can try your luck with the 50/50 and meat draws while you are there or again on the Saturday night. They host drop-in darts on Saturday afternoons, plus cribbage and poker on Thursday evenings. I attended the poker a couple of weeks ago and it was lots of fun. Buy in is $35 at 6:30 pm with poker starting at 7 pm. The Invermere Legion is a great venue.

Happy Easter

My local buddy asked what my plans are for the Easter weekend. “Same as Jesus,” I replied. I’m taking off Friday and coming back on Monday.”

The Thrifty Reporter

It is Easter and along with Easter one thinks of spring. I love spring and the sight-ing of the tulips popping up in the flower beds. Yes it will be a few weeks before flowers actually start appearing but I know I can go to the Invermere Thrift Store and buy artifi-cial flowers as well as lots of Easter items... anything from fuzzy bunnies to Easter baskets! This will hold me over un-der the outside flowers are in bloom. Hours during Easter are Thursday 10-4, Good Friday 1-4 and Saturday 10-4. Wishing everybody an Easter filled with love, peace and the joy of spring.

Ride Sharing

A group of young men tried to get into my vehicle last night but I was able to fight them off with a baseball bat. Then the cab company fired me.

Care Aides Wanted

We Care is a home health service com-pany that serves clients all through the Kootenays and beyond. They provide home nursing, personal care, homemak-ing, community support and more. They are looking for staff in this area. The jobs involve supporting different folks in community and employment situations. Sometimes it is just going for a coffee or to an event while other times it might be sup-porting a person with a disability at a job or volunteer position. Generally it is fun and very fulfilling. Plus the pay is pretty decent. I have been doing some of it and really enjoy it. Call 250-426-9066 for more information.
