Commoditization of Platforms

Netmagic and Reliance Communications were the incumbents in India while many other players

like Tulip and BSNL are venturing into this new technology delivery concept..

Indian enterprises and major DC service providers are undergoing major expansions to

accommodate the futuristic demand in India and other SAARC region countries. Recent players

indulging in expansions include Tulip, Netmagic and CtrlS.

As energy prices continue to rise, MSPs are increasingly adopting power-saving measures by

opting for Green DC Certifications and Methods. Power Costs are estimated to be a massive 38 per cent of the overall DC cost composition. Also, with availability of power being a key issue in

India , electricity costs are predicted to be on the rise.

OPEX investment form, high realty estate costs, unreliable power resources and lack of skilled

resources to run internal DCs are all urging enterprises to slowly migrate from building DCs to

hosting it with a service provider. Decreasing bandwidth costs and emerging competition are also

predicted to bring down hosting costs.

Along with DC core hardware such as servers and storage devices, middleware in the form of

platforms are also witnessing moderate levels of commoditization. This trend in future will lead to

growth of adoption in PaaS in India.

Government regulatory mandates and organizational compliance measures are the two main

factors that are driving the growth of data in enterprises. Enterprises are seen to be opting for

cost-effective and scalable managed storage or cloud storage options.
