    SECTION 11.1 SHIPPING DOCUMENTATION

    11.1.1 (1) Shipping documentation must be in English.

    (2) Shipping documentation must be legible

    (3) Unless the dangerous goods to which the shipping documentation relates are goods to which subclause

    (10) applies [ie consumer commodities], any shipping documentation must contain:

    (a) the consignors name and contact telephone number; and

    (b) a description in accordance with subclause (4) of the dangerous goods to be transported:

    NB: Subclause (4) - is as per the information required on the front of this Shipping Document. The requirements of 11.1.1 (5) and (6), covering the positioning of the information on the form and recording aggregate quantities, are also met by completing the front of this form

    11.1.5 Whenever practicable the telephone number of the consignor stated in the shipping documentation, should be a number at which the consignor, or person acting on behalf of the consignor, is accessible 24hours a day to answer questions relating to the goods consigned.

    DOCUMENTARY ASPECTS OF THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS

    (ie by SEA IF DESTINED FOR TASMANIA OR OTHER OFF SHORE ISLANDS).

    Description of Dangerous Goods: The basic items of information necessary, in addition to the number and kind of packages, and the total quantity (by volume or mass and, in the case of goods Class 1, by the net explosive mass of the contents), in the description of each dangerous substance, material or article offered for shipment are:

    - the proper shipping name and, if applicable, the words EMPTY UNCLEANED or RESIDUE LAST CONTAINED before or after the proper shipping name for empty packagings, including portable containers or bulk packagings, which contain the residues of dangerous goods, or the word WASTE before the proper shipping name for waste dangerous goods (other than radioactive) materials) being transported for disposal or for processing for disposal. Where salvage packaging has been used, the words SALVAGE PACKING should be added after the description of the goods.

    - The class, the division (if assigned), and the compatibility group (for goods of class 1); or the subsidiary

    hazards, if any, such as flammable, oxidising agent, corrosive, for goods of class 2;

    - The letters UN followed by the UN number shown for the goods in the IMDG Code (except for consignments identified as dangerous goods in limited quantities of class/classes as permitted by 3.4.5 of the Code), followed by the packing group, where assigned;

    - If applicable, the minimum flashpoint if 61o C or below (in o C closed cup (c.c.)), any subsidiary hazards not

    communicated by the proper shipping name, the identification MARINE POLLUTANT or SEVERE MARINE POLLUTANT, and the recognized chemical name where special provision 274 applies as per the dangerous goods list see 3.1.2.8.1 of the Code; and

    - The control and emergency temperatures, if applicable, for class 4.1 self-reactive substance or a class 5.2

    organic peroxide.

    The proper shipping name, Class, UN Number, and packaging group (where assigned) should always appear in that order. Other items may appear in any order. See section 5.4.1.2 of the Code.
