Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 3: Sidhra police arrested a pedestrian alongwith 48 pouches of illicit liquor. As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Sidhra police post laid a naka near Tawi Bridge and intercepted a pedestrian on sus- picious grounds. During checking, police recovered 48 pouches of illicit liquor and arrested the person on the spot. The accused has been identi- fied as Ashok Kumar, son of Bansi Lal, a resident of Asrara Abad, Sidhra. A case under FIR Number 216/15 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Nagrota police station and investigation of the case is going on. The medical camp, which was organized today, was inaugurated by Riyaz Ahmed, Sarpanch Mangota, who assured the locals of unconditional and everlasting support of Army. A medical team comprising of two Army doctors (including one lady doctor) and one civil doctor provided much needed special- ized medical cover to the ladies, children and elderly people dur- ing the camp. During the camp a total of 582 patients were treated which included 220 ladies, 199 men and 163 children. The medical repre- sentatives also distributed Health, Nutrition and Child Care pam- phlets to the locals in order to spread medical awareness. The vocational training camp for women was started on September 19 and concluded today. A total of 25 women attended the vocational training classes. During the camp, the women were trained on skills per- taining to Sewing, Knitting, Stitching, Tailoring and Embroidery. Partial bandh, protest in Rajouri Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Oct 3: A partial bandh was observed in Rajouri town while one community held protest on Thannamandi road demanding action against the miscreants who had beaten up a police constable from Nerojal area few days back besides some persons carrying their domestic animals. Alleging harassment these people alleged that some mis- creants had attacked SGC Abdul Hamid of Nerojal area and three persons near Alpha Gate in Rajouri town, when they were carrying their domestic animals. Two separate FIRs were also lodged in this connection but no arrest was made by police. The members of majority community closed their business establishments and also put their vehicles off the road to lodge their protest. They also blocked Thannamandi road and disrupted movement of traffic demanding arrest of the accused persons. Meanwhile, Minister for CAPD and Tribal Affairs Zulfkar Ali has urged the people from Rajouri to maintain peace and communal harmony. He said whosoever is involved in disturbing peace in the area will be dealt with as per law and the people should wait for the out- come of the inquiry. National Integration tour flagged in Excelsior Correspondent REASI, Oct 3: The National Integration tour organized for 18 teachers from districts of Ramban and Reasi, was flagged in today by the General Officer Commanding, Rashtriya Rifles Uniform Force Headquarters, Reasi. The tour returned from Jammu, Kota and Agra after ten days. During the tour, the teach- ers visited prestigious institutes and establishments of Agra and Kota (Rajasthan) which includ- ed Agra University, Kota University, St Stephens College and Allens Institute apart from visiting a number of places of tourist interest like Agra Fort, Taj Mehal, Kota Barrage, Kota Museum, Nehru Museum & Planetarium, Qutub Minar, India Gate and Humayun's tomb. Malik to continue as ADC Anantnag Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 3: Mohd Younus Malik, Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, who was under orders of transfer as Deputy Labour Commissioner (Central), shall continue as ADC Anantnag. According to a Government order in this regard, during the posting of Mr Malik as ADC Anantnag, his salary shall be drawn against the vacant post of Additional District Development Commissioner Anantnag, till fur- ther orders. JIAR organizes free medical camp Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 3: Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research (JIAR), Nardni Jammu today organized a free Ayurvedic medical camp at Choudhary Market, Bantalab Road, in city outskirts. The camp was supervised by incharge of the camp, Dr KK Kapoor. An expert team of doc- tors including Dr Twinkle Gupta, Dr Vishal Khanna, Dr Jagmeet Kaur, Dr Raman and Dr Puneet Bhat from JIAR examined a large number of patients, who visited the camp. Free medicines were also dis- tributed among the suffering patients free of cost. The villagers were advised to follow yoga, Pranayam, Surya Namaskar daily and not to indulge in junk, spicy food. They were also advised to stay away from alcohol, smoking and drugs. Besides, they were told to maintain cleanliness around their place of living to avoid spread of communicable diseases. A follow up camp will be held in same vicinity within fortnight. Drug peddler held Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 3: A drug-peddler was arrested in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district and huge quantity of prescription drugs were recovered from him. A police spokesman said a police party in Tulkhan village near By-pass area found one person carrying a jute sac in suspicious circumstances. "The police party tried to stop him but he fled away from the spot leaving behind a sac containing 175 bottles of Ran-codex (Codeine Phosphate)," the spokesman said, adding the accused was soon arrested and was identified as Javid Ahmad Dar. "A case under FIR num- ber192/2015 under Section 8/21/22 NDPS was registered and investigation was taken up," the spokesman added. Lady commits suicide Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 3: A lady committed suicide in south Kashmir's Dooru area of Anantnag district. A police spokesman said 30- year old lady (name with held), resident of Manzmoh village of Dooru, consumed some poison- ous substance at her home. "She was shifted to Qazigund Hospital where she breathed her last. After completing legal formalities the body was handed over to legal heirs for last rites. Police have registered a case in this regard," the spokesman added. 2 structures damaged in fire Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Police today said two structures were damaged in two separate blaze incidents. A police spokesman said the fire broke out in the godown of R K Traders at Shaheed Gunj here. "The blaze was brought under control with the help of fire tenders and Police," he said. The spokesman said in another incident, the fire broke out in the residential house belonging to Ghulam Hassan Paddar of Watoo in Damhal Hanji Pora area of Kulgam dis- trict, resulting in partial damage to house. "The blaze was brought under control with the help of police and local of the area," the spokesman added. 2 bike riders hurt in mishap Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Oct 3: Two youth were injured when their bike was hit by Xylo vehicle on the outskirts of the town here this morning. A police spokesman said that Vinayak Gupta, son of Vinod Gupta, resident of Ward No. 11 and another boy, Aditya Gupta, son of Parveen Gupta of the same area were injured when their bike was hit by Xylo vehicle No. JK-11/5505 near temple on Poonch bypass road near Rajouri town. Both were rushed to local hospital where doctors referred Vinayak Gupta to GMC Hospital Jammu for head injuries. The police has taken cognizance of the matter. Man held with illicit liquor Excelsior Correspondent RAMBAN, Oct 3: Police arrested a man along with 38 pouches of illicit liquor here today. As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Ramban police station laid a naka near Shan Palace on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway and intercepted a person carrying carton on suspi- cious grounds. During checking of the carton, police recovered 38 pouches of illicit liquor and arrested the accused on the spot. He has been identified as Mohammad Shafi, son of Wazir Khan, a resident of Chamba, Seri. A case under FIR Number 102/15 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been regis- tered at Ramban police sta- tion and investigation started. Army provides computers to Govt school Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Oct 3: Romeo Force today provided two com- puters with computer table and printer to Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS), Mendhar. GGHSS Mendhar is impart- ing education to 670 girl stu- dents of the nearby villages. The decision of providing com- puters to the school was taken by the Army after it observed that the basic infrastructure of information technology in the school needed to be improved to attract more students and to impart Information Technology knowledge to them. Malai villagers facing threat of land slides, soil erosion Excelsior Correspondent KISHTWAR, Oct 3: The inhabitants of village Malai in tehsil Drabshalla of Kishtwar district have demanded that immediate steps be taken to save the village from further devasta- tion in coming winter where the heavy rains and landslides have already created a havoc and land slides threat looms large. In a statement issued here, today Tara Chand, Chairman, Panchayat Halqa Sangna said the villagers are facing many hardships as the landslides threat looms large in the area. He said already a lot of devasta- tion has been caused by the nat- ural calamities in the village and despite the plea of villagers to shift the population to alterna- tive place no action ahs been taken as the village is almost uninhabitable. The file for com- pensation by the then DC Kishtwar is lying in Divisional Commissioner’s Office for a pretty long time he added. Seeking immediate interven- tion of the Government, he demanded that the steps be taken to protect the land from erosion by taking the environ- mentalists into confidence or the villagers be shifted to an alterna- tive place so that they are saved from any major catastrophe in the area. He said the representatives of the area have given many representations to concerned authorities and the DC Kishtwar last time had also constituted a team of officers to assess the loss and ascertain the situation. Tara Chand said for last two years they were pursuing the authorities in Kishtwar and Jammu and instead of realizing the gravity of situation they are turning a deaf ear to it. He warned that the authori- ties will be responsible in case any catastrophe takes place in the area. Kidnapper arrested after two yrs Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 3: RS Pura police arrested a kidnapper, who was evading his arrest for the past two years. As per police sources, on reliable information, police team from RS Pura police station conducted raid in Roop Nagar area of Digiana and arrested a kidnapper, who was at large since 2013. The accused has been identified as Om Parkash, son of Kharati Lal of Sidher, RS Pura, at present Roop Nagar, Digiana. He was wanted in a case registered under FIR Number 69/13 under Section 366, 342, 452 and 323 RPC with RS Pura police station. Further investigation into the case is going on. Excelsior Correspondent ANANTNAG, Oct 3: The Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Muneer Ul Islam today chaired a review meeting regarding the functioning of Revenue Department in the dis- trict. The meeting was attended by ADC, ACR, SDMs of the dis- trict besides other officers of the Revenue Department. The DC was informed about various works undertaken by the Revenue Department in their respective areas, including the acquisition of land for develop- mental works, proper compensa- tion to the displaced and removal of encroachments from the river banks. The DC directed the officers to speed up the process of acqui- sition of land which is necessary for the initiation of developmen- tal works and ensure proper compensation and rehabilitation to the displaced people. Taking a strong note of the encroachments alongside the river banks, the DC directed all the Tehsildars to personally monitor the removal of encroachments from the state land and along the banks of river Jhelum and its tributaries on pri- ority basis and ensure no further construction takes places in these areas thereafter. Police sources said that SGC Sikander Hussain and Constable Nissar Hussain Shah were attached by the SSP Poonch J S Johar to DPL Poonch on the complaint of the traders Imran and Irfan. The SSP also directed SDPO Mendhar to hold inquiry into the matter. It was alleged that these cops had beaten up Azmal and Attar, sons of Mohd Ashraf and Rahul Kumar working in the shop of Imran last evening.

A police spokesman said 30-year old lady (name with held),resident of Manzmoh village ofDooru, consumed some poison-ous substance at her home. JAMMU, Oct 3: RS Pura police arrested a kidnapper, who wasevading his arrest for the past two years.

As per police sources, on reliable information, police teamfrom RS Pura police station conducted raid in Roop Nagar area ofDigiana and arrested a kidnapper, who was at large since 2013.

The accused has been identified as Om Parkash, son of KharatiLal of Sidher, RS Pura, at present Roop Nagar, Digiana.

He was wanted in a case registered under FIR Number 69/13 underSection 366, 342, 452 and 323 RPC with RS Pura police station.

The DC was informed aboutvarious works undertaken by theRevenue Department in theirrespective areas, including theacquisition of land for develop-mental works, proper compensa-tion to the displaced and

The DC directed the officersto speed up the process of acqui-sition of land which is necessaryfor the initiation of developmen-tal works and ensure propercompensation and rehabilitationto the displaced people.

Taking a strong note of theencroachments alongside theriver banks, the DC directed allthe Tehsildars to personallymonitor the removal ofencroachments from the stateland and along the banks of riverJhelum and its tributaries on pri-ority basis and ensure no furtherconstruction takes places inthese areas thereafter.
