40th Meeting of National Capital Region Planning Board and Launch of Pariman Geo-Portal

• Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas chaired the 40th meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board

• Hardeep Singh Puri launched the Combined Reciprocal Common Transport Agreement for the carriage facilities among the governments of Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

• Combined Reciprocal Common Transport Agreement launched by Hardeep Singh Puri who

also a chairman of National Capital Region Planning Board

• Online geo portal- “Pariman” based on remote sensing and GIS technology developed by NIC for NCR Planning Board was launched.

• To cover information of sectors like land use, transport, industries, water, power, health etc presented as Line, Point and Polygon features. Help in sub- regional planning.

Goa becomes 1st Indian state to give Free Water to People

• Goa has launched ‘Save Water to Get Free Water’ scheme under which state households will not be charged for water consumption up to 16,000 litres.

• Goa becomes the first Indian state to supply water free of cost to its citizens

Ladakh Declared Snow leopard, Black-necked crane as its State Animal and Bird

• The government of Union Territory of Ladakh has declared ‘Snow leopard’ (Panthera uncia) as its state animal and ‘Black-necked crane’ (Grus nigricollis) as its state bird.

• Earlier Jammu and Kashmir had the Black-necked crane and Kashmir stag (Hangul) as its state bird and animal.

• The estimated population of Black-necked Crane in Ladakh region is between 80-100.

• The estimated population of individual Snow -Leopard in Ladakh alone is between 200-300.

Mizoram Govt Launched Online Payment System in Transport Dept

• Transport Minister of Mizoram has launched an online payment system in the Transport department of the state.

• The payment system was developed by the State Transport Department in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre and State Bank of India to make a shift from physical to digital mode payment.

• The system was divided into 2 components viz, Vahan and Sarathi.

• Vahan: It deals with new vehicle registration, permits renewal, issue of a duplicate permit, tax payment, issue of special permit, fitness renewal fee, ownership transfer fee, issue of No Objection Certificate, registration renewal, duplicate registration certificate.

• Sarathi: It is a platform for submission of applications such as learner licence, driving licence, conductor licence, licence renewal, change of name, address and photos, duplicate driving licence, etc.

Delhi Tops Forbes India’s List of World’s Most Surveilled Cities

• Delhi tops the the Forbers India Report on the Most Surveilld Cities in the World with 1,826.6 CCTV cameras per square mile.

• Delhi is followed by London with 1,138 and Chennai with 609.9 CCTV Cameras per sq miles in 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.

• Mumbai, Maharashtra has secured 18th spot with 157.4 cameras per sq miles.

World’s largest & Tallest Observation Wheel

• The World’s largest and tallest observation wheel named ‘Ain Dubai’ is set to be opened in Dubai, United Arab Emirateson

• The ain Dubai is located at Bluewaters Island.

• Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Starneth Engineering were the primary design and construction contractors of Ain Dubai.

• The Ain Dubai is around 2 times taller than the London Eye, which will take the visitors to a height of 250 meters.

• Alar Karis, Director of the Estonian National Museum has been elected as the 5th President of Estonia. He will be succeeding Kersti Kaljulaid, the first female president of Estonia.

UNICEF Report- “Uncertain Pathways: How gender shapes the experiences of children on the move”

• In accordance with the report titled ‘Uncertain Pathways: How gender shapes the experiences of children on the move’ by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the number of persons living outside their birth country or citizenship reached a record high of 281 million in 2020. In this, 36 million of them were recorded as children.

• This number is increased among boys and girls younger than 18 years to 35.5 million in 2020.

• 10 million child refugees were displaced due to conflict and war.

• In a year, there were almost 15 million new displacements

• Nearly two-thirds of all international migrants in 2020 (including refugees) were born in middle-income countries. Only 13% were born in low-income countries.

Rajasthan Govt nominates Shooter Avani Lakhera as Brand Ambassador for ‘Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao’ Project

• The government of Rajasthan nominated Gold Medalist of Tokyo Paralympics, shooter Avani Lakhera as the brand ambassador of the ‘Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao’ project under the Department of Woman and Child Development.

• Avani Lakhera is 19 years old and belongs to Jaipur, Rajasthan.

• She became the first Indian woman to secure gold medal in 10m Rifle (Class SH-1)at games and also made a world record equalling total of 249.6

points which is a new paralympic record.

• She along with Devendra Jhajharia and Sundar Gurjar, who won medals in Tokyo Paralympic Games, have been appointed by the State Government as Assistant Conservator of Forests in the Forest Department on out-of-turn basis.

Chief Justice for High Courts of Telangana, Sikkim & Karnataka

• The President has appointed the Acting Chief Justice for the High Courts of Telangana, Sikkim & Karnataka by exercising his power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India.

• Justice Satish Chandra Sharma will take charge as the ACJ, succeeding Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka

• Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai will take charge as the ACJ succeeding Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari.

• Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao will take charge as ACJ succeeding Justice Hima Kohli.

• The President of India accepted the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium and appointed 9 Supreme Court Judges by exercising the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India.

• The appointment of the 9 Judges including 3 women, takes the total strength of judges of the Supreme court to 33 (including the Chief Justice of India (CJI)), the maximum possible strength of the Supreme Court is 34.

• The 9 judges are,

• Justice AS Oka – CJ of the Karnataka HC

• Justice Vikram Nath – CJ of the Gujarat HC

• Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari – CJ of the Sikkim HC

• Justice Hima Kohli – CJ of the Telangana HC

• Justice M Fathima Beevi, appointed to the Supreme court in 1989, became the first woman judge of the Supreme court of India.

• Justice AM Khanwilkar has been appointed as the Chairman of Supreme Court Legal Services Committee. He succeeded Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman

• He was nominated by the Central Authority in the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3A of Legal Service Authorities Act, 1987(39 of 1987) read with rule 10 of the National Legal Services Authority Rules.

Phone Pe received Approval from RBI & Insurance Broking Licence from IRDAI

• PhonePe Account Aggregator Pvt Ltd received in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India to operate as an Account Aggregator to share financial information.

• The license will enable PhonePe to launch its AA platform, which will facilitate the free exchange of financial information between the financial information users and financial information providers on the AA Ecosystem

• The AA could not support transactions in financial assets by customers. AA was allowed only to transfer the client’s data but not store it.

• The RBI has announced the AA framework via a Master Directive in June 2016 to enable the customers to get benefits like viewing statements of their accounts, track deposits, plan investments and avail credit cards on a single window.

• In October 2020, IndusInd Bank became the 1st bank in India to go live as a FIP under the AA Framework of the RBI.

• Other entities that have already received an AA licence from the RBI are Cookiejar Technologies, FinSec AA Technologies, NESL Asset Data, and CAMSfinserv.

• PhonePe has received an insurance ‘broking licence’ from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
