Govt is Implementing BPKP as a Sub-scheme of PKVY for Promoting Organic Farming

• Government is implementing Bhartiya Prakritik Krishi Padhati (BPKP) as a sub scheme of

Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) since 2020-21 for the promotion of traditional indigenous

practices.

• The scheme mainly emphasizes on exclusion of all synthetic chemical inputs and promotes on-farm

biomass recycling with major stress on biomass mulching; use of cow dung-urine formulations;

plant-based preparations and time to time working of soil for aeration. Under BPKP, financial

assistance of Rs 12200/ha for 3 years is provided for cluster formation, capacity building and

continuous handholding by trained personnel, certification and residue analysis.

• As of now, an area of 4.9 lakh ha is covered in 8 states and Rs. 4980.99 lakh has been released.

Telangana has not taken up natural farming so far under BPKP programme.

• PKVY is a sub-component of the Soil Health Management (SHM) scheme under the National

Mission of Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA).

• The Bengaluru-based research institute Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research

(JNCASR) is placed among the top 50 rising institutions in the world for materials science.

• JNCASR is placed at 23rd slot in the Nature Index 2021 Materials Science list.

• It is also the only Indian institute to appear on the list.

• Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU, China), Southern University of Science and Technology

(SUSTech, China), and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST, South Korea)

are the top three countries in the list respectively.

• These institutes are ranked by change in article share (Share) in materials science from 2019 to

2020 i.e. number of scientific articles and papers published in leading journals.

• JNCASR also ranked 171st in the table of Leading 200 institutions worldwide along with IISc (Indian

Institute of Science), Bengaluru (Karnataka) which was ranked at 165.

• The top 50 rising institutions list includes 19 institutes from China, 12 from the United States and two

from the United Kingdom (UK) along with JNCASR.

• In 2019, the JNCASR was ranked 7th among the top ten Young Graduate Universities by Nature

Index 2019. It also ranked 17th among the top 50 Young Universities in Chemistry.

Indian Navy Chief attends 325th Russian Navy Day Celebrations

• Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh attended the 325th Russian Navy Day celebrations held

at St. Petersburg, Russia. Indian Navy’s Stealth Frigate INS Tabar participated in the Navy Day

Celebrations of Russia.

• The 15th International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS 2021 organized by Aviasalon JSC took

place at Gromov Flight Research Institute’s airfield in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, Russia.

• MAKS 2021 is the second major in-person air show and the first major one to be staged since the

coronavirus pandemic.

• The air show is a biennial event and is considered as one of the world’s largest aviation forums.

• Russia handed over to Indian Air Force (IAF) staff a commercial offer to deliver 21 MiG-29 Fighter

Aircrafts.

• IAF’s Sarang Helicopter Display Team performed in the MAKS International Air show for the 1st

time.

• The Sarang Team comprises 4 Indigenously produced ‘Dhruv’ Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH), it

was formed in 2003 at Bangalore.

• During the air show, Russia unveiled a prototype of a new Fighter jet ‘Checkmate’. Checkmate is a

fifth- generation stealth fighter jet which has stealth capabilities and advanced characteristics.

• The aircraft is capable of flying at a speed of 1.8 – 2 Mach and has a range of 3,000 Kms.

• During the air show, the Ka-226T Climber helicopter which is intended to be sold to India under the

2015 Inter- Governmental agreement was put on display.

• The deal was worth USD 1 billion at the time of signing. India had placed an order for 200

helicopters, 60 to be imported from Russia, and 140 to be manufactured locally by a joint venture set

up by India & Russia.

• For the 1st time, Russia invited India to the Russia-US-China Troika Plus meeting on Afghanistan. It

is expected to be held in Moscow, Russia.

• Besides India, Iran has also been invited to the Meeting.

• SDG Choupal named Sanjay Rai ‘Sherpuria’, the entrepreneur and Social worker as the National

Brand Ambassador

• Under COVID-19 Sanjay Rai ‘Sherpuria’ distributed oxygen concentrators to more than 200

institutions and individuals of Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh.

• He provided the facility of an ambulance, a telemedicine vehicle, essential medicines, doctors and

many workers in Ghazipur. Masks and medicines were distributed by him to more than 60 thousand

families.

• A coffee table book on Sanjay Rai ‘Sherpuria’ also published in collaboration with Ghazipur Nagrik

Abhinandan Samiti, SDG Choupal and Rotary Club International.

• It is a collective community initiative of NITI Aayog, Dr Ambedkar International Centre, Ministry of

Social Justice, UNHabitat, WHO (World Health Organisation), CII (Confederation of Indian

Industries) India@75, UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the

Pacific), NSIC (National Small Industries Corporation), TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute),

Nagrik Foundation, etc.

• It will support the national and state governments for implementing the UN’s Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs) (a set of 17 goals and 169 targets).

• Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Co-operation inaugurated the ‘Greater Sohra Water Supply

Scheme’ at Sohra in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya along with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad

Kongkal Sangma.

• This state government scheme was funded by the Ministry of DoNER (Development of North

Eastern Region) under NESIDS (North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme) in 2019

with an outlay of 24.08 cr.

• It was conceptualized on the lines of Prime Minister’s ambitious project Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to

provide pure drinking water through taps to every household.

• He launched the Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign at Sohra (Cherrapunji).The slogan for the

Campaign is “Evergreen Northeast”.

• He launched the Sohra Afforestation Project which is a joint initiative of DGAR (Director General of

the Assam Rifles) and Government of Meghalaya.

• The Project includes – Block plantations proposed to be carried in 3,000 Ha; Silvi/ Aromatic/ Pastoral

Development in 3,000 Ha; Fuelwood plantations proposed to be carried in 2,000 Ha; 1,000 Ha. of

Broom grass plantations; Dense plantation using Miyawaki method to be carried out in over 200 Ha.;

Planting 50,000 ornamental trees for enhancing tourism potential; Establishment of 14 nurseries;

Forest fire control measures; Capacity building of the local communities in Natural Resource

Management.

• The plantations would be completed within 3 years and maintenance support will be provided up to 5

years.

• The entire area of Cherrapunji is going to be adopted by Assam Rifles for the purpose of plantation.

• He laid the foundation stone for the Multipurpose Convention Centre and Exhibition Facility of the

North Eastern Space Applications Centre-NESAC, in Shillong, Meghalaya.

• He inaugurated the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawiong in Shillong.It was funded by the

Ministry of DoNER, Government of India and was built at an estimated cost of about 48.31 cr.

UP Govt, Sapio Analytics Signed MoU

• The Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Government of Uttar Pradesh signed a

Memorandum of understanding with Sapio Analytics, to provide a complimentary license of Accloud,

automation software to MSMEs of UP.

• Through the MoU, the Accloud automation software worth Rs 72 crores will be provided free of cost

to 20,000 MSMEs of UP for 1 year.

• It will automate the MSMEs business’s accounting, sales, and inventory management process to

ease Goods and Services Tax compliance.

• A backyard garden project that enabled a village on the Bangladesh border to consume nutritious

plants and vegetables and earn by selling the surplus produce has earned an award for a southern

Assam district.

• Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli received the National Silver SKOCH Award a few days

ago for ‘Pushti Nirbhor’ (nutrition-dependent), a convergence project on transformation and

development entailing setting up nutri-gardens at houses in Dinnathpur Bagicha village.

• The village is near the India-Bangladesh border in Katigorah circle of Cachar district.

• Instituted in 2003, SKOCH Award salutes people, projects and institutions that go the extra mile to

make India a better nation.

• Pushti Nirbhor, a convergence project which aims to make the villages self-reliant through household

Nutri gardens which will also generate income during the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Under Pushti Nirbhor, more than 30 thousand seedlings of vegetables, fruits and herbal plants were

given to 140 beneficiaries. Each household of the village was given payment for 75 man-days to

implement the project.

BS Yediyurappa resigned as Karnataka CM

• B.S.Yediyurappa announced his resignation as Chief Minister of Karnataka.

• He served as the CM of Karnataka for 4 terms, becoming the only CM to do so in Karnataka.

• He started his 1st tenure as the CM of Karnataka in November 2007 and finally he served as the

19th CM of Karnataka from 26 July 2019 to 26 July 2021.

IFC lends $250 million to HDFC Ltd to boost Green Housing Finance in India

• HDFC Ltd has got a loan of $250 million from International Finance Corporation (IFC), the

investment arm of the World Bank Group, to be used by India’s largest housing finance company for

green housing.

• This loan is on the lines of India’s target of providing ‘Housing for All’.

• IFC has made investments over USD 920 million in housing finance corporations in India for on-

lending to retail consumers of inexpensive housing and builders of inexpensive and inexperienced

housing.

• IFC estimates there’s a USD 1.25 trillion investment opportunity in green residential housing in India

to the year 2030.
