Tips For Successful Project Management

In the Qualified Remodeler article, “Five Tips For Successful Project Management,” Keith Gerety of Gerety Building & Restoration goes through a few project management strategies that he developed to help take concepts and turn them into reality for homeowners.

Better Understanding Your Clients Goals Ensure that you and your client are on the same page by being an active listener. You not only need to interpret and prioritize their ideas, but restate them to clarify and confirm that you understand their vision.

Turning a Conversation Into an Actionable Plan The next step is to take the homeowner’s ideas and create a plan. Pull the professionals you work with (designers, electricians, etc.) into the conversation instead of just telling them what you need done. Define the plan of action with each professional in order to stay on-time and on-budget.

Keep Your Building or Remodeling Project Running Smoothly Communication—not only with your team, but with the homeowner—is key to keeping a project running smoothly. Daily communication might seem like a nuisance, but it allows everyone to be aware of developments and progress.

How Long Does a Kitchen Remodel Take? When working with a client on a kitchen remodel, it is inevitable that they will want you to answer this question: How long until it’s finished? The answer will vary from homeowner to homeowner based on kitchen size, current condition and what the final product will be. Breaking down the process into these steps will allow you to give them a better idea of when their new kitchen will be ready.

Tips For Successful Project Management (continued)What if Something Unexpected HappensIf an issue comes up, don’t hide it or try to fix it on your own. Discuss the obsta-cle with the homeowner (communica-tion is key!). Approach the situation in a positive and creative manner, finding a solution that reaches your end goal–a beautiful, finished project.

“At the end of the day, the goal is to exceed your client’s expectations. Make them glad that they chose you, and ensure that you are the first name that comes to mind the next time home improvement inspiration strikes.” - Keith Gerety

Make The Most of Your Final Walk-ThroughThis is your time to show off your team’s hard work. Point out the biggest changes and emphasize the quality. Be prepared to answer questions the homeowners might have and let them know that you are available for maintenance and warranties should either of those come up.

The design process of a remodeling project can take a while. You have to draw the kitchen design to scale, choose materials and colors and figure out every last detail.

Custom cabinets will take a while to receive once you have placed the order, since they are built to your specifications. Allow time for delivery and installation when scheduling countertop vendors.

Once all your material has been received, it will all start to come together. Having a skilled installer will make sure the renovation process comes together more quickly.

Depending on the complexity of the remodel, most kitchen remodels will take roughly two to six months to complete after the first design mockup.

Keep Your Kitchen Cool This Summer

Crock Pot - An alternative to an oven, a crock pot is a low-heat appliance that won’t heat up your home. Best of all, crock pots allow you to spend less time in the kitchen and more time outside with your friends and family!

Cook in The Morning - By cooking during the cooler hours of the morning, the heat will have evaporated by the time temperatures reach their peak. Just re-heat your dinner in the microwave when you are ready to eat.

Add a Fan - Help circulate the air in your kitchen to keep the temperature down.

Serve Cold Foods - Don’t even bother with cook-ing! Enjoy a meal of sandwiches, salads, fruit, vege-tables and dips on a hot summer day.

Get Out And Grill - Whether you use gas or char-coal, there is nothing better than a burger, chicken, or fish fresh off the grill. Grilling not only keeps the heat out of your kitchen, it adds tons of flavor to your food.

Fresh fruits and vegetables make summer one of the most enjoyable times for cooking and eating. The only problem is that warm weather can turn your kitchen into a hot spot when cooking. Keep your home cool with these summer cooking tips.

Beautify Your Outdoor Dining For Summer EntertainingHot summer nights are perfect for entertaining guests in your outdoor dining space. Make sure your outdoor dining is both as stylish and functional as your indoor kitchen design with these concepts.

Group pots of flowers together and select a color theme that will complement your patio furniture. Choose containers in different sizes and shapes for a unique display.

Bring your patio to life by adding a pop of color to the floor with a rug or by painting your deck. Utilize the pattern or colors from your new outdoor flooring throughout the rest of the space for a coordinated patio.

Keep the party going outdoors even after the sun goes down with accent lighting. Hand-strung lights around tree trunks or across the deck rail will allow you to set the mood for your get-together after the sun goes down.

Color of the Month:White Paints

Top left: Last year, White and Icing paint made up 70% of our painted cabinets. Painted cabinets are available on Maple and Red Oak in Cornerstone, Millennia and Katana.

Lower left: White cabinets are an excellent choice for a modern kitchen design. Not only will white cabinets brighten up a room, they will make it look more spacious.

Top right: In this kitchen, cabinets in Icing create a back-drop for the backsplash color to shine. Add depth to a white kitchen by pairing it with a stained island.

Lower right: We offer eight shades of white paint in our Curated Collection. Mix and match one of these whites with other colors in the Curated Collection or with one of our wood stains.
