T Suvarna Raju has taken charge as chairman of state-runHindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).He will be 17th chairman of HAL and will replace RK Tyagi’sfollowing his retirement.Earlier, in September 2014, Public Enterprises Selection Boardhad selected him from among five contenders to succeed Tyagi.
T Suvarna RajuHe hails from a village in West Godavari district in coastal Andhra Pradesh.He had joined HAL in June 1980 as management trainee after graduating from IIT inChennai.
Before this appointment he was Director for design and development in HAL. He alsoholds distinction of being awarded first patent in the HAL in 2002 and has applied fora around 1,000 patents since 2013.He also had drafted HAL’s first research and development (R&D) policy and playedimportant role in spearheading India to be self-reliant in producing 25 kN (kilo Newton)turbofan engines.HAL had initiated several R&D programmes under his leadership which includes LightCombat Aircraft (LCA), Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT), Light Utility Helicopter (LUH),Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), HTT-40 trainer, Jaguar Darin-III and Mirage aircraftupgrade.
He is also the first member-secretary of the design development management boardin Ministry of Defence and member-secretary of the national aeronautics coordinationgroup.

Union Government has released set of three CommemorativePostage Stamps on Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean IndiaMission).This set of 3 stamps was released by Union Ministry forCommunications & Information Technology and issued byDepartment of Posts.
These stamps were released to in order to achieve the vision of Clean and Healthy India.Department of Posts has selected the design for the stamps through a competitionamong the children on the theme of Swachh Bharat Mission.
Swachh Bharat MissionIt was launched by the Prime Minister on the 2nd October, 2014 on the occasion ofBirth Anniversary of Father of the Nation- Mahatma Gandhi.This mission seeks to achieve Clean India and aims to provide access to toilets to allhouseholds in the country.It also seeks to provide adequate arrangements for Solid and Liquid WasteManagement.
