Dearest Sister,

It is sheer gift of God that we are given experiences in life which bring us back to the root of our vocation, to the foundation of our existence, our suffering and daily joy; in brief, the sense of our being in this world!

There may also come a time when you ask yourself: “Am I still waiting for Someone? Is my expectation of the Lord still alive?”.

These are questions awakened in me on the occasion of participating last month, at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Italian Bishops (CEI) gathered in Assisi to reflect on the ongoing formation of priests.

I saw how our spirituality and pastoral sensitivity is very close to that of the pastors and how it would be beautiful that alongside with these men there would also be consecrated Pastorelle women with their intuition, their maternal care, their tenderness for the flock and each person of the flock. In this Assembly of men only, I perceived the lack of feminine dimension (we were only four women), and for a moment I cherished the dream that the Church could also go back to express God’s original plan for humanity: “He created a suitable helper to man similar to him…”

1. A reciprocity even in the care of God’s people would certainly be a wealth for the entire Catholic Church.

I thought of Jesus and the first apostles who together with women journeyed and took care of those who were discovering the beauty of having a Father in heaven who loved them through them and their message. This experience with the Bishops made me appreciate even more the beauty of our pastoral charism recognized by the Church. But unfortunately, it was not allowed to express it in reality and it is still little understood by us in all its extraordinary richness2 for the Church today and for the call to on-going “reformation of the Church”

3 which is so dear to Pope Francis and foremost the Second Vatican Council which “presented ecclesial conversion as openness to a constant self-renewal born of fidelity to Jesus Christ”4.

The call to enter into the dynamics of the reform is true for all ecclesial ministries united in the fundamental vocation which is the baptismal vocation. How many times we said over the years that we go back to the root of our faith, to rediscover our baptism! Now more than ever, it is urgent to rediscover it as community that lives in communion for a radiant and attractive5 presence in the Church.

Certainly it is needed wise Pastorelle, women of prayer, prepared with authentic pastoral passion in order to be close to the pastors with that «prophetic» creative tone that can help them better live their service to the Christian community.

Therefore let us unite ourselves more intensely in prayer asking the Spirit to impel even in His Church today, “community of Pastorelle” who know how to remain side by side with the pastors with wisdom, love and spirit of humility. Women of God who do not need to emerge but rather to proclaim with their relationship with the Pastors the beauty of taking to heart together the journey of faith of the Christians, the baptized, the families who are awaiting someone to help them to grow in the Christian faith, in the relationship of Love with the Lord.

Then you will understand that an experience like the one lived in Assisi does not happen by chance, but everything is actually part of a mysterious plan, but full of love in which the vocation to life is one and the same with the vocation as a Pastorella.

In this experience likewise, I felt a confirmation of the journey outlined during the 7th Interchapter: “From the living source of the Trinity, we welcome the gift of communion and nourished by the Eucharist we live gratuitous relationships ...” and Pope Francis also stressed: «First of all, religious life mainly helps the Church to realize that “attraction” which causes her to grow, for before the witness of a brother and sister who truly lives the religious life, the people ask themselves “what is there here?”, what impels this person beyond the worldly horizon? (…) A clear sign that religious life is called to give today is fraternal life. (…) Consecrated life can help the Church and society as a whole by giving testimony of fraternity, that it is possible to live together as brothers despite diversity: this is important! (…) it makes the lymph of fraternity circulate in the body of the Church (…) a testimonial brotherhood, which attracts»

And thinking about this year dedicated to the Consecrated Life and the congregational journey in the next three years strengthened and defined in the last 7th Interchapter, I encourage each of us to pursue with determination a serious process of reform of our religious life with particular attention to fraternal life. A journey that would make us see within our personal, communitarian, congregational, church and social events, a deeper meaning: life flowing in the events! Just like how the Lord sees it, while among us human creatures is being intertwined communion which characterizes the same relationship of the three divine persons.

And your life is also inserted in this communion, in this mystery that changes you while you proclaim it! How many times have we said that our spiritual life has its nourishment in the Word of God and the Eucharist, that the prophecy needed in the history of humanity today is to be women of discernment. In fact this world of shattered culture and exasperated individualism is challenging each of us and our communities.

What religious do I want to be? What community do we want to be? Persons who live and enjoy the Lord’s presence and attract others to Him, or rather religious who do not relish this Presence, nor seek it anymore, they no longer feel any longing and therefore they not do not favor it in others?

Pope Francis in the opening message of the year of Consecrated Life thus exhorts us: «So, be men and women of communion! Have the courage to be present in the midst of conflict and tension, as a credible sign of the presence of the Spirit who inspires in human hearts a passion for all to be one (cf. Jn 17:21). Live the mysticism of encounter, which entails

“the ability to hear, to listen to other people; the ability to seek together ways and means”. Live in the light of the loving relationship of the three divine Persons (cf. 1 Jn 4:8), the model for all interpersonal relationships.»7.

And also in his expectations for the Year of the Consecrated Life, he affirms: «I expect: (…) None of us should be sad, discontented and dissatisfied,; (…) you will find ways to create “alternate spaces”, where the Gospel approach of self-giving, fraternity, embracing differences, and love of one another can thrive; (…) Communion is lived first and foremost within the respective communities of each Institute8;. (…) a growth in communion between the members of different Institutes; (…) Yet during this Year no one can feel excused from seriously examining his or her presence in the Church’s life and from responding to the new demands constantly being made on us, to the cry of the poor..»9.

Dearest Sister, we have an enormous wealth to donate with our religious life: the encounter with the Risen Christ, the gratuitous love of the Spirit, the longing of a Father who loves forever. Let us not stifle the treasure of eternal life which is already beating in us, the communion of the living God who has come, who comes and will come.

We also welcome this Advent as an appropriate occasion to witness being “children”, to be linked to the same Source of life, to discover ourselves sisters and brothers on a journey to the only one Father.

This is what awaits our hearts and what the world in which we live expect from us. And as the Founder exhorts us: «This time is needed especially to ask the Lord to repeat his coming, that is the Incarnation of the Son of God, but in the present world. Above all ask that the Son of God be born in our hearts, in our minds; may transform us, because here is the redemption of everyone: to become like Jesus Christ: “Conformes fieri imagini Filii sui»10.

With the Blessed Virgin Mary, let us enter in joyful trust in the Year of Consecrated Life and we journey in communion toward the Lord’s birth.

"Praise God and tell everyone about the good things he has done for you, so that they too will honour him and sing his praises.

Let everyone know what God has done. Never stop praising him.”

To share with you the experience of this time I draw inspiration from the experience lived as a group of Government, in September: the Spiritual Exercises led by Fr. Pino Stancari on the book of Tobit. A wisdom literature that has as its main objective: to educate believers in their responsibilities, so that they may learn to live. Interesting the feelings of peace and serenity that accompany the story of the family of Tobit, even in strenuous situations, lived with patience and humility. Along the course of the Exercises, the question that constantly challenged us was: "What is our place as believers in the world?"

These last months have been very intense with planned and unexpected commitments that made us experience the joy and effort of the service, the grief at the sudden separation from loved ones, the contact with the disease ... all lived in awe and wonder, of the continued presence of the Lord.

The preparation and implementation of our 7° Interchapter saw us intent in reviewing the journey accomplished in the entire Congregation, without losing sight of the coming three-year period ahead of us with the theme of Communion and the Sacrament of the Eucharist which we shall consider more intensively in the next three years. The experience, as a whole, allowed us to touch once again, how "a good Angel" (Tb 5, 22) accompanied us, also thanks to the prayers of many brothers and sisters. The presence of the Spirit, invoked repeatedly, day after day, opened roads and led us to formulate a concrete proposal for the second triennium, to live our relations in the gratuitousness of the Easter of Jesus Shepherd, Crucified and Risen. At the conclusion of the Interchapter there remained in our heart a strong sense of gratitude and hope for the journey of our Congregation, now called more strongly to the reform of Consecrated Life. We have thus been asked to move out of mediocrity- as Pope Francis says -starting from the reform of ourselves. A blessing on our work has been the celebration of the centenary of the birth of the Pauline Family, which we participated at Alba, as the intercapitular group, after a brief pilgrimage to the Alberionian places.

As a community, we participated in the suffering of the return to the Father's House, the mother of sr Aminta and Fr. Silvio Sassi, Superior General of the SSP. These sudden deaths have allowed us to experience a powerful moment, even in sorrow, both as community and as Pauline Family, that we are called to be more united, more sympathetic, more fraternal in living the

common pastoral commitment. We have been edified by the faith witnessed by sr Aminta, especially during the illness of her mother.

Some Sisters participated in the customary Convention of Capiago on the theme: "I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church, the Sacraments. The faith of the undivided Church, the pastoral care, the formation in the Church today". Pastoral reflection is always an enrichment, useful to the whole group, in particular for the service that is asked of us.

During this time two finalized visits were held: to the Sisters of Korea and Gabon; opportunities to share life with the Sisters and know better the reality of these countries; opportunities for increasingly becoming more open to interculturality. In visiting the communities, we strongly feel the sense of gratitude for what the Good Shepherd accomplishes, even through the presence of the Pastorelle Sisters, so that the Gospel be known, accepted and lived.

The attitudes of "blessing" and "thanking" have characterized the months of November and December, in welcoming at the Generalate, people coming from different countries. There has been 13 Pastorelle and 8 Friends of Jesus Good Shepherd who participated in the third pilgrimage of the Pauline Family from 21 to 27 of November. Fullness of joy and gratitude have been expressed by all for this time of grace.

We had the joy of hosting, if only for a dinner, the Archbishop of Manila, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, who shared with us the experience of the recent Synod on the Family. A wonderful gift that the Lord has granted our community in order to continue reflecting and accompanying the Ecclesial journey.

The participation at the Conference, sponsored by the Society of Saint Paul and open to other members of the FP, on the theme: "Fr. Alberione, Founder" gave us the opportunity to return to the story of the origins of FP and share with brothers and sisters the joy of belonging to this great Family wanted and guided by the Holy Spirit, reviving in us the mission to "Give to the world Jesus Christ Way, Truth and Life".

The beauty of belonging to the "Marvellous Pauline Family" reached its peak in the audience Hall of Pope Paul VI, packed with people, thanks to the meeting with Pope Francis. His paternal attitude reminded us that "the joy of the gift received for pure love is communicated with love. Benevolence and love ".1 Welcoming this unexpected gift, we concluded the Centenary anniversary with a solemn "Thank you" in the Eucharistic Celebration at the Shrine of Queen of the Apostles, presided by Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The meeting with the Bursars expected from 29 November to 7 December, due to the sudden health problems of the General Bursar was deemed appropriate to be postpone to some later date, mindful of what we often say: "Give priority to people before schedules".

While we thank the Lord for his visits, which make us grow in confident abandonment in Him, we also thank you for your solidarity and your understanding that you have expressed in various ways.

To continue our formation, we will participate from 12 to 14 December, at the National Conference for Major Superiors and their Councils, organized by the USMI on the theme: "The Governing Community, paschal style and discernment".

The desire to live the service of Governance in an attitude of humility remains strong in us, while praising and thanking the Lord in every situation. For this we ask also the support of your prayers and assure you ours.

of the Province Jesus Good Shepherd – BR-CdS

To serve with Joy and Compassion

Together with "fear and trembling" - as Saint Paul says - in response to the will of the Lord, we said our Yes to form the Government of the Province BR-CdS. In one of the first meetings, we did a reading of the reality of the Province and of our personal reality; we placed ourselves in today's history and prepared our Government project. It has been a process to build unity and communion among us, which gave light on some issues assumed by all of us:

- The nature of our mission, focused on the fundamentals of the life of the Pastorelle, attentive to the journey of the Church while placing emphasis on some specific needs of this historical moment;

- the need to experience at first hand and as a group what we expect and we want to propose to

the Sisters: to foster relationships with all, having attitudes, which reach out to their needs, open to dialogue;

- the downsizing of our insertions within each community, in order to establish priorities that best

respond to every situation in view of restructuring the Province, bearing in mind the new reality of the Sisters aging and becoming ill, however the objective is of dimensioning and qualify our presences.

At the beginning of our service, we had the grace to receive the Canonical visit of the General Government, which helped us to deepen and clarify various aspects of the difficult but important art of governing.

In order to be instruments of service for the Province, the Congregation and the Church, we have formulated the necessary actions and worked out a calendar of monthly meetings, which will be of two or three days, leaving space beyond the established dates, for further unforseen consultation of the Provincial sr Adriana Cortelini, on issues that she would not want to face alone.

Each meeting is prepared in advance because there are different situations and decisions require discernment and listening to the Spirit.

Each of us, in addition to personal difficulties, also has to organize her time in accordance with the various pastoral responsibilities. The service of governance places us in the position of experiencing the goodness and mercy of the Good shepherd in our lives and in the Province. We often hear being repeated: "It is the Good Shepherd who made it happen", "It was God’s action," "we must thank God very much" …

This is also a constant invitation to conversion which leads us closer to the Lord and live a more evangelical life. Thus, we continue our mission with hope and joy.

The Superior General, Sr Marta Finotelli, with the consent of the Council, during the months of June-November 2014, has made the following acts:

� Reflected on the outcome of the canonical visit to the Province Brazil Caxias do Sul, during the months of May-June 2014 and elaborated the message letter; She also considered the outcome of the finalized visit to Taiwan in May 2014 by Sr Rita Ruzzene, vicar general.

� Finalized the preparation and organization of the 7th Interchapter which took place in Rome, at the Generalate, during the second half of August 2014, preceded by a pilgrimage to the places of origins of the Pauline Family in and around Alba and participated, on the 20 August, 2014, at the Eucharistic Celebration, in conjunction with the Centenary of the Pauline Family, in the Temple of St Paul in Alba.

� Defined the topics to be dealt with at the meeting with the ECIR on 18-20 July 2014, in the Generalate. During those days, the reflection of Fr. Giuseppe Forlai, igs on "Have sorrow for sins" oriented the preparation of the fifth in-depth study Leaflet. Suggestions were collected for the prayer in the preparation and for accompanying the interchapter; the prayer in preparation to the feast of Mary Mother of the Good Shepherd was also finalized, which was sent to all communities.

� Sought and received the availability for the mission in Paysandú (Uruguay) Sr Maria HETZLER (BR-CdS), Sr Monica REDA (ICS) and Sr Silvia RODRIGUEZ (ARG-BO). In January 2015, this community will no longer be of the province BR-CdS but will be dependent on the General Government.

� Approved the request for modification of the Mode concerning the Juniorate Programme for 2014-2015, in PI-AU-SA and approved the programme for the year of preparation to the perpetual profession of the Juniors Sr Florentina Bataclan, Sr Marnie Cabiles, Sr Evangeline Dolores and Sr Junlyn Maragañas of PI-AU-SA and admitted to perpetual profession the junior Sr Clara Le KYOUNG AH, of the Korea Delegation

� Defined the agenda and the modalities for the visit of the Korean Delegation, made from September 26 to October 9, 2014 along with Sr Cesarina Pisanelli. This visit was made to consult all the Sisters in order to start the discernment for the new Government of the Delegation who subsequently was appointed. The group consists of: Sr Teresa An BOK NYE Superior Delegate, Sr Anna Kim OK SOON (Councillor), Sr Cristina Lee YOUNG AH (Councillor) and Sr Teresa Kim JEONG HWA (Councillor).

� Prepared the finalized visit for Gabon, which was carried out by Sr Marisa Loser, General Councillor in 29 September – 8 October, 2014, in order to accompany more closely the Sisters of the community of Libreville in the area of initial Formation.

� Held the consultation, in view of the appointment of the new Government of the Delegation ARG-BO and appointed the new group, composed of: Sr Teresa Adriana GALAY (Superior Delegate), Sr Mariana BASUALDO (Councillor) and Sr Maria de los Angeles SEIJO (Councillor).

� Drew up the Acts of 7th Interchapter which were sent to the Circumscriptions for the post intercapitular animation.

� Participated, together with the Sisters of the General Government, the Spiritual Exercises, animated by Fr. Pino Stancari, sj from 15 to 23 of September in Galloro (Rome).

� Accepted the request of the Pauline Brothers to suspend for a year the meeting of the General Governments of the PF scheduled in January 2015, owing to the unexpected death of Fr. Silvio

Sassi and the convocation of the extraordinary 10th General Chapter of the SSP, which will be held from 25 January-15 February 2015.

� Defined the agenda and the modalities for the meeting of the Congregational Bursars, scheduled from 29 November to December 7, 2014, which due to the sudden health reasons of the General Bursar, has been postponed to a date to be established.

� Finalized the General Programmation for 2015 which has been sent via email to all the communities and in paper form to the central house of each Circumscription.

� Attended on 27th November, along with the Sisters of the General Government and other Pastorelle Sisters, at the audience with the Holy Father Pope Francis in Paul VI Audience Hall, and at the Eucharist celebration of the closure of the Centenary Year of the Pauline Charism, in memory of Blessed James Alberione, which was presided by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin in the Shrine of Queen of the Apostles.

Taiwan

Pregare e lavorare per le vocazioni!

Questo è uno degli impegni assunti dalla Chiesa in Taiwan. Allo stato attuale c’è una grande necessità di vocazioni locali e per questo, come risposta a questa sfida, la Conferenza Episcopale Regionale di Taiwan ha chiesto la presenza delle Pastorelle presso il Seminario Regionale a collaborare nella cura delle vocazioni.

Nei giorni 25-28 agosto 2014, la diocesi di Tainan ha promosso un “campeggio e la formazione” dei chierichetti a livello diocesano. Un’iniziativa atta a promuovere le vocazioni in particolare tra i ministranti. Il tema che ha accompagnato il campo aveva lo scopo di aiutare i ministranti a diventare consapevoli della necessità pressante della Chiesa di Taiwan di avere uomini e donne coraggiosi, disposti a rispondere generosamente alla chiamata amorevole di Dio a seguire le sue orme in particolare è stato posto l’accento sulla chiamata alla vita religiosa.

Argentina - Bolivia Veglia Missionaria Vocazionale

A conclusione del mese missionario (ottobre 2014), con il tema “Il mio cammino di ricerca”, abbiamo accolto nella nostra comunità alcuni giovani in ricerca vocazionale per meditare il testo della Parola di Dio di 1Re 19,1-18 durante una veglia di preghiera.

Consapevoli che la vocazione è la risposta di Dio alle voci supplicanti dell’umanità, dopo aver partecipato all’Eucaristia nella Cattedrale di Salta, abbiamo vissuto, organizzati per gruppi, l’esperienza di missione e visitato diversi settori della città, allo scopo di andare incontro alle differenti realtà del popolo di Dio: indigenti della strada, ammalati che si trovano nell’ospedale, la gente della stazione di autobus e al centro della città, ecc.

Dopo questa esperienza, siamo ritornati in comunità per continuare la veglia e, in un momento di adorazione al Santissimo Sacramento, abbiamo messo davanti a Gesù Eucaristia tutti i volti e le voci delle nostre sorelle e dei nostri fratelli incontrati durante la giornata.

È stato per noi Pastorelle e per i giovani, un tempo di grazia che ha rafforzato la nostra vocazione battesimale nel servizio al gregge del Buon Pastore.

Brasile Animazione Vocazionale

Le due Provinciali e le sorelle che fanno parte dell’Equipe del SAV (Servizio di animazione vocazionale) a livello interprovinciale si sono riunite nei giorni 3-4 novembre 2014, per dare continuità al programma stabilito circa l’animazione vocazionale. Sono state illuminate dal brano biblico di Lc 8,4-15 e dal testo «Costruire una cultura vocazionale».

«Dio è un seminatore generoso, ‘insistente’, e la vocazione che è dono Suo, segue la logica trasbordante del cento per uno, perché la persona così chiamata possa correre il rischio di

lasciarsi chiamare. È l’incontro tra le due libertà: quella di Dio, che è perfetta e quella dell’uomo, imperfetta (…)» (Amedeo Cencini).

Lo studio e la riflessione hanno aiutato a guardare il processo non solo dell’animazione ma anche dell’accompagnamento vocazionale delle giovani. Le sorelle hanno valutato il cammino già fatto insieme e proiettato i prossimi passi della Campagna vocazionale. Hanno sottolineato i segni di speranza e tra questi l’unità delle forze. Altro aspetto importante emerso dalla verifica è la necessità di lasciar perdere un certo senso di ‘fallimento’ vocazionale e vivere l’impegno della testimonianza di unità e il coinvolgimento di altre sorelle nel servizio di animazione vocazione in mezzo alla gioventù.

(…) Molti sono i motivi per lodare e ringraziare Dio Pastore e con Maria cantare le meraviglie che, nella Sua bontà, realizza nel cammino dell’animazione vocazionale. Che possiamo lasciarci ‘plasmare’ dalla Parola con la stessa disponibilità di Maria: «Ecco la serva del Signore: avvenga per me secondo la tua parola». (Lc 1, 38)

“Fatti per Dio”

Il 23 novembre 2014, nella città di Lima si è organizzato un evento giovanile dal titolo “Fatti per Dio”, al quale hanno partecipato 5.000 giovani di diverse parrocchie, movimenti, scuole, ecc. Della nostra parrocchia, Sant’Alberto Magno, erano presenti cinquantacinque giovani. “Fatti per Dio” ha offerto un ambiente di gioia con la presenza della Chiesa giovane che desidera seguire Gesù.

I giovani hanno avuto la possibilità di partecipare a differenti laboratori: evangelizzazione, disegno, galleria fotografica, creato, giochi, esposizioni….

E stata un’esperienza bella che ha motivato il desiderio di comunicare a tutti che siamo fatti per l’Amore, fatti per Dio e per annunziarlo.

Mons. Lucio Ruiz (Rappresentante del Vaticano) ha invitato i giovani ad avere presenti quattro pilastri per il loro pellegrinaggio: non aver paura di avvicinarsi a Gesù, non perdere la speranza, non rimanere lontani da Gesù e non essere mediocri.

Corea Sesto Incontro dei giovani in ASIA

Dal 13 al 17 agosto 2014, nella Diocesi di Daejeon, Corea del Sud, si è svolto l’incontro dei Giovani in Asia. È stata per i giovani cattolici un’occasione per rinnovare la fede e portare il Vangelo al mondo come discepoli di Gesù.

Sr Silvia Chae ci lascia una sua testimonianza: “Stare per quattro giorni con i 4.000 giovani coreani e 2.000 giovani venuti da vari paesi

dell’Asia, mi ha dato grande gioia e speranza. Prima di tutto l’incontro speciale con il Papa Francesco ha riempito di luce e di speranza il nostro cuore. Abbiamo condiviso con i giovani la nostra vita spirituale e l’esperienza di essere uniti nel Signore attraverso il pellegrinaggio e il gesto della lavanda dei piedi. Durante una serata, abbiamo vissuto una festa speciale che ci ha dato molta gioia attraverso il ballo e il canto fatto insieme con entusiasmo.

A conclusione dell’incontro, una forte pioggia, interrotta solo due ore prima della Messa, ci ha permesso di celebrare con un po’ di fresco, con gioia e gratitudine al Signore.”

L’avventura dell’insegnamento

Sr Irene Tollini, da anni è insegnante di Religione nella scuola Media e Superiore, condivide con noi la risposta che ha dato a due interrogativi: La scuola quale contributo può offrire alla persona? Quali dimensioni vanno coltivate perché lo studio contribuisca alla formazione integrale della persona? La prima dimensione è quella della gratuità: si studia per il bene proprio e della società, nello stile della gratuità, non solo per guadagnare o per avere potere. San Bernardo dice: ‘chi studia per il bene degli altri compie un’opera di carità’. Imparare a donare è fondamentale: l’uomo non è solo avere o essere, ma donare. Un’altra dimensione è il sacrificio: lo studio esige pazienza, attenzione, tempo. Chi si allena al sacrificio diventerà un adulto capace di scegliere ciò per cui vale la pena impegnarsi e raggiungere degli obiettivi. Altro aspetto è il fallimento: nella vita non c’è solo il successo, ma anche la delusione e lo studio fa confrontare con le sconfitte. Di fronte all’esito negativo occorre aiutare il ragazzo a capire dove ha sbagliato, come può migliorare e poi sarà lui a ripartire. Questo educa per la vita. Diventare grandi vuol dire imparare a stare in piedi con le proprie gambe, camminare da soli, non perdere la stima anche quando si è commesso un errore. Educare alla responsabilità: occorre fare di un ragazzo un giovane capace di reggere le conseguenze dei propri atti, oltre ogni delega. C’è una responsabilità verso se stessi e verso gli altri. La dimensione del futuro è fondamentale. Per i giovani il futuro è incerto: perché devo studiare se poi non troverò lavoro? Meglio divertirmi ora… Studiare è atto di speranza. Chi studia si esercita a pensarsi nel domani, un domani promettente. Anima dell’educazione, come dell’intera vita, può essere solo una speranza affidabile. Solo Dio è la speranza che resiste a tutte le delusioni (Benedetto XVI). È con questa certezza che ogni giorno, superando le inevitabili difficoltà, incontro i ragazzi e cerco di instaurare con loro relazioni di fiducia, di stima e di speranza.

La gioia della visita di Papa Francesco

La visita del papa Francesco in Albania è stata dettata da due importanti motivi: sostenere la pacifica convivenza tra cristiani e musulmani e incoraggiare i cristiani nel loro cammino affinché sappiano tenere vivo il ricordo e la testimonianza dei martiri. L’Albania è una terra dove da secoli cristiani e musulmani hanno saputo convivere pacificamente e Papa Francesco, intervistato sull’aereo nel viaggio di ritorno, ha evidenziarlo che: “l’albanese non è tollerante, è un fratello, ha la capacità della fratellanza. Questo si vede nel convivere, nel collaborare tra islamici, ortodossi e cattolici; collaborano come fratelli”.

Molto toccante l’appello accorato rivolto nell’omelia del 21 settembre 2014 a Tirana: “sono venuto per ringraziarvi per la vostra testimonianza e anche per incoraggiarvi a far crescere la speranza dentro di voi e intorno a voi. Non dimenticatevi l’aquila. L’aquila non dimentica il nido, ma vola alto. Volate alto! Andate su! Sono venuto per incoraggiarvi a coinvolgere le nuove generazioni; a nutrirvi assiduamente della Parola di Dio aprendo i vostri cuori a Cristo, al Vangelo, all’incontro con Dio, all’incontro fra voi come già fate: mediante questo vostro incontrarvi voi date testimonianza a tutta l’Europa.”

Incontrando i religiosi nella cattedrale di Tirana, papa Francesco, commosso dalla testimonianza di due anziani, un sacerdote diocesano ed una suora stimmatina, ha detto: Toccate e lasciatevi toccare da questi martiri viventi, dalla loro testimonianza semplice ed umile. Vi incoraggio a consolare ogni fratello e sorella che incontrate sul vostro cammino. Anche essi sono

stati toccati dalla consolazione del Signore che non ha permesso loro di arrendersi, sostenuti dalle preghiere della chiesa nel nascondimento.

La presenza di Papa Francesco, le parole e soprattutto la sua testimonianza sono stati motivi di gratitudine per aver spronato anche noi, Pastorelle “albanesi”, a stimare, amare e incoraggiare sempre più questi nostri fratelli e sorelle che hanno tanto da insegnarci!

An offering of suffering as pastoral charity

Licodia Eubea is a dear little town of just over 3,000 inhabitants in the south east of Sicily,

in the province of Catania and the diocese of Caltagirone. It is situated on two hills and in a valley at 635 meters above sea level. The first hill peaks with a medieval Castle and the other with that of Calvary. Between the two hills is the district of Carmine with a church of the same name, which can be considered the old town centre. The ancient settlement was of Hellenistic origin, due to some explorers who came from the island of Eubea, Greece. During the domination of the Saracens in Sicily, Mount Licodia became a garrison of strategic importance, complete with fortifications, then, during the Norman period, it was transformed as the Castle of Licodia, whose existence is historically attested to from 1272. In the Middle Ages it was recorded by the ancients of the place and also in many local history books, that it was named Little Palermo, owing to the abundance of nobiles in the territory and consequently their commercial and political power. There were other conquests up until autonomy was obtained in 1844. During the early decades of the last centurty, Licodia experienced a strong migration, today its economy is based on the production of cereals and table grapes.

Licodia, particularly from the second half of the twentieth century, has had a vibrant and ceative Christian community, led by good pastors, who have always cared for the spiritual formation of their members and as a result have wisely accompanied them on the journey of faith towards various ecclesial vocations.

Into this hospitable and charming land, Rosa was born on the 6 September, 1947, the last of three sisters and three brothers. Their father Santo and mother Carmela Dell’Universitá, transmitted to their children a generous dedication to work and their deep experience of faith. Their mother, with her beautiful voice, participated in the parish choir and this urged her children to learn from an early age to praise the Lord with song. Little Rosa was baptised on 5 October in the parish of St Lucia, although the whole family attended the parish of St Margherita, which is the mother church, built in the Baroque style and dedicated to the virgin and martyr, who originated from Antioch in Pisidia, and who is the patron of the city.

Little Rosa grew in the shade of the bell tower and of the parish, and from her family she received a sound Christian formation. At 6 years of age she received her First Communion and Confirmation from Bishop Mgr Nunzio Capizzi.

With an open, jovial and intuitive intelligence, Rosa succeeded well in her studies at school. As an adolescent she engaged in the parish as a catechist, sang in the choir which animated the festive liturgies, and lent herself willingly to various pastoral activities especially the youth group, all of which she did with a contagious enthusiasm.

The parish priest during her youth, Fr Enzo Guarino, recounted how that having to go to Caltagirone for the celebration of the Eucharist in the parish of St Anna, he invited Rosa to accompany him. In that parish since 1967 was a community of Pastorelle Sisters, made up of Sr Timotea Borchia, Sr Liliana Fava and Sr Pacis Sorrentino. At the sight of these sisters, Rosa as if thunderstruck said straight away to Fr Enzo: “I want to be like those sisters”. And from that moment she began to assiduously visit them, enjoying the beauty of their pastoral charism, and to feel more and more insistently the attraction to the beautiful Shepherd Jesus.

So she decided to follow him more closely and on 24 September, 1974, she entered the Congregation and began the formation program with a group of other young postulants. On 3 September, 1976, she was admitted to the novitiate which she lived with intimate adhesion and demonstrated great maturity. Amongst the group of five novices, she was the eldest and they would turn to her for a judicious opinion on many things.

For her the two year novitiate passed quickly and intensely and she absorbed the charism and spirituality of the Pastorelle like a sponge, with her heart conforming always more and more to that of Jesus Good Shepherd. She was aware of her limitations but also of the gifts that the Lord had given her and so trusting in God’s love that never fails, asked to be admitted to first profession, which was celebrated at Albano Laziale on the 3 September, 1978. Happy and full of gratitude for the gift of consecration amongst the Pastorelle Sisters, she immediately applied herself to live the years of the Juniorate with maturity and openness to the Spirit.

Immediately after first profession she was sent to the apostolic community of Albiano, in Trent, where she devoted herself, body and soul to the youth ministry. The fire of the great volcano Etna in Sicily, which provided her ardour, combined well with the snows of the Dolomites and to the youth of Albiano she conveyed enthusiasm for the Gospel, involved them in song, surrounding them with all the love she was capable of so that they could know the Lord Jesus and live their Baptism with awareness and joy. She could play the guitar very well and with her beautiful voice she performed liturgical songs that enchanted the young and her young minstrals. The guitar became her companion on her journey and ministry.

She spent most of her temporary profession in Albiano and in September 1982 she was asked to integrate into the community in the city of Rho (MI), originally a large district on the outskirts of Milan, which has greatly developed on an industrial scale and has grown due to a strong immigration of families from Southern Italy in search of work. The parish in which the community of Pastorelle work is dedicated to the Apostle Paul and at the time of Sr Rosa, the residents had a very low average age and therefore was full of children and youth.

As she prepared for her definite “Yes” to the good Shepherd at her perpetual profession Sr Rosa dedicated herself to the young people here too in Rho with the same passion. Very interesting was the review of her journey and the request made to the Superior General to be admitted to the preparation for final profession. And so on the 25 April, 1984, Rosa wrote: “In the Congregation I have had a ‘sense’ of God, the absolute God and there is nothing outside of God that can stand in comparison with him who can ‘enter’ my heart nor in competition with him, because He is the very meaning of my whole life and of who I am”, and she continued in this tone of a profession of faith. Then she said: “Here I am discovering the meaning of prayer as a constant attitude of attention to God, listening to Him speak to me through nature, His revealed Word and the events of each day.” And again: “I wish to respond to his call, a ‘response’ that is first of all admiration, wonder, contemplation of what is and what he has done and continues to do every day for me. A response of adoration and thanksgiving, full of availability to his will, with intercession and supplication, imploring mercy for me and for the people of God. (...) Notwithstanding my poverty, my limitations and sinfullness, I feel in me a great desire for God.”

On 5 August, 1984, Sr Rosa celebrated her perpetual profession in her parish of Licodia, with a deep inner joy in the presence of God’s people gathered in large numbers and in front of the Bishop Mgr Camelo Canzonieri, bishop of Caltagirone, professed her perpetual vows of povery, chastity and obedience according to the Rule of Life of the Sisters of Jesus Good Shepherd.

After the perpetual profession she returned to Rho even more desirous of engaging herself to the young, to whom she offered the testimony of a life totally dedicated to God and his people. She was a happy Pastorella, feeling fulfilled and had a strong sense of community life, believing that to be the first form of apostolate.

However, the most fruitful time of her mission, looming on the horizon, was an illness. What she solemnly pronounced during the final profession was now becoming more and more challenging. In fact, towards the end of 1983 she experienced the first symptoms of the illness that would develop aggressively, despite abdominal surgery, from which there was hope of resolving or at least limiting the spread. After surgery, she felt quite well, or enough to complete preparation and celebration of her perpetual profession.

Back in Rho after profession, it was soon realized due to repeated intestinal blockages, that the disease was advancing. In December a second surgery was required. As the tumor progressed inexorably, Sr Rosa continued to feel sick and weaker. Doctors recommended a return to her place of birth, Sicily, hoping that the climate would help her feel better and in fact at first she seemed to be improving. Family members surrounded her with attention and care, but the illness proved to be rebellious to every remedy and soon the situation worsened. The sisters of Rho constantly travelled from Milan to Sicily to keep by her bedside with great affection and generosity.

Sr Rosa with her love of life and her mission, tenaciously submitted to the treatments, however, she clearly understood that the time given to us has its own mysterious fruitfulness linked to the acceptance of suffering as an expression of pastoral charity. Regarding this she said: “I feel to be a Pastorella even in this bed and I feel very much in tune with the sisters of Rho who are actively working. By offering my suffering I want to make their pastoral activity more complete.” In her prayer she said to Jesus, “Lord, you are my Shepherd, I give my life to you, help me to do your will always, even when I am weak. I offer this suffering and my life for the Church, priests, the congregation and especailly for vocations.”

Fr Enzo Guarino accompanied her spiritually in the acceptance of the illness and in turn himself drew spiritual benefit from Sr Rosa’s testimony. Bishop, Mgr Vittorio Mondello, also used to visit her often, and during the last meeting and visit with Sr Rosa told her that her prayers had been answered: in fact, on 20 September, 1985, the diocesan seminary reopened after many years and continued to welcome young men preparing for the priesthood. However ten days before Sr Rosa took leave of this world: she had already fulfilled her pastoral mission by offering her life for the Church and for vocations, and saw the rebirth of the seminary from heaven. The Good Shepherd came to take her home on the 10 September, 1985.

In his homily during the celebration of the funeral the bishop said: “In her mission as a Pastorella, Sr Rosa walked in the footsteps of Jesus Good Shepherd who gave his life for his sheep, and now has finished her mission offering herself totally to the Lord, collaborating with Him, accepting her cross, carrying it in these last 18 months of great suffering in communion with Him, for the salvation of many brothers and sisters.”

Sr Rosa suffered greatly but received the grace to make from her suffering the opportunity to live to the end her pastoral mission, to unite herself more closely to Christ Shepherd and to his Church, as a true Pastorelle Sister.

RICORDANDO DON SILVI SASSI

Domenica 14 settembre, festa dell’Esaltazione della Croce, don Silvio Sassi, superiore generale della Società San Paolo, è stato improvvisamente chiamato da questa vita per entrare nella Vita che non ha fine. Era stato con noi, in casa generalizia, il 31 agosto, per presiedere la Messa conclusiva del nostro 7° Intercapitolo, e condividere l’agape fraterna.

Nell’omelia ci aveva esortato a continuare ad aiutare la Famiglia Paolina a vivere la dimensione pastorale del comune carisma paolino, perché il fine è portare la salvezza a tutti gli uomini e a ciascuno in particolare. Avevamo così condiviso un forte momento di gioia e di fraternità, mentre ci proiettavamo verso l’incontro con Papa Francesco.

Facendo memoria del suo affetto e della sua cura verso noi Pastorelle, chiediamo la sua intercessione presso il Padre, affinché possiamo essere fedeli alla nostra missione pastorale, custodendo una profonda relazione con Gesù Maestro e Pastore Via Verità e Vita, in obbedienza allo Spirito.

FACCIAMO TESORO DI ALCUNE PROVOCAZIONI IMMEDIATE AL CENTENARIO. Il Convegno di studio su don Alberione Fondatore (Ariccia, 23-25 novembre 2014) è nato

dall’invito a «fare memoria» per non lasciare cadere la profezia di Alberione, tenendo conto che «come ogni evento salvifico, l’inizio della Famiglia Paolina: contiene ricchezze non ancora esplorate; contiene ombre non ancora riconosciute; contiene promesse non ancora mantenute; contiene illusioni con ancora dissolte; contiene idolatrie da redimere; contiene verità da far fiorire; contiene disordine e caos da riconoscere e da portare con pazienza redentiva; contiene un finalismo salvifico in cui inserirsi con fedeltà creativa”1. In questa grande Famiglia, alle Pastorelle è stata affidata in particolare “la spiritualità che genera l’azione pastorale (…). Nella Chiesa a qualcuno viene affidato ciò che è patrimonio di tutti, perché siano memoria vivente e richiamo profetico ai fratelli»2.

Poi, uno degli aspetti evidenziati della persona di Alberione, è il suo essere un mistico dei nostri tempi, perché ha vissuto in unione e assoluta dipendenza da Dio, e ha avuto l’amore come motivo unico di azione, così che la mistica si manifestava nella quotidianità; «le sue tendenze mistiche si rivelano nel bel mezzo delle attività apostoliche. Le iniziative apostoliche e il lavoro a esse dedicato sono per lui occasioni di vera mistica»3. È risuonato anche l’invito affinchè i membri della Famiglia Paolina si prendano cura gli uni degli altri, e si sostengano «vicendevolmente nella missione, mettendo a frutto i talenti di ognuno, assicurando una solidità alla vita paolina di Famiglia con una formazione culturale che, dalla scuola alla predicazione e al ministero, incide non poco sul consolidarsi nello spirito paolino della famiglia alberioniana. Si auspica il lavorare uniti, l’aiuto vicendevole può annullare gradatamente i disagi della non collaborazione e ottenere migliori risultati apostolici da parte di tutti i componenti “familiari”, incentivando quella che potremmo chiamare fedeltà creativa»4.

Papa Francesco, nell’udienza del 27 novembre, ha incoraggiato soprattutto alla gratuità, alla gioia, all’amore per l’unità della Chiesa, e alla testimonianza del messaggio evangelico con le parole e con la propria vita: «La gioia del dono ricevuto per puro amore si comunica con amore. Gratuità e amore (…). Quella gioia che scaturisce dall’esperienza intima di Dio (…) e della genuina fraternità sperimentata nella comunità e la completa oblatività nel servire la Chiesa e i fratelli, specialmente i più bisognosi. E qui, occorre menzionare l’amore per l’unità della Chiesa. Tutto il vostro lavoro, lo zelo apostolico, dev’essere pieno di quest’amore per l’unità (…) Il beato Giacomo Alberione seguendo le orme di Gesù e ad imitazione dell’Apostolo delle genti, ha saputo vedere le folle come pecore sbandate e bisognose di orientamenti sicuri nel cammino della vita. Pertanto, ha speso l’intera esistenza a spezzare loro il pane della Parola con linguaggi adeguati ai tempi. Così anche voi siete chiamati a spendervi al servizio della gente di oggi cui lo Spirito vi manda, con creatività e fedeltà dinamica al vostro carisma, individuando le forme più idonee affinché Gesù sia annunciato. I vasti orizzonti dell’evangelizzazione e l’urgente necessità di testimoniare il messaggio evangelico. Non solo dirlo. Testimoniarlo con la propria vita».

Mons. Pietro Parolin, Segretario di Stato, nella sua omelia in chiusura dell’anno centenario del Carisma Paolino (27 novembre 2014), nel Santuario Regina Apostolorum, ha evidenziato che: «la spiritualità apostolica si nutre della conoscenza-adesione a Gesù. Spiritualità e azione vivono in simbiosi, poiché nelle cose di Dio non si dà l'una senza l'altra, pena la sterilità del cuore o l'inefficacia dell'azione. Un pensiero, questo, che per il beato Alberione fu assillo e preoccupazione, come quando esortava a conoscere sempre più intimamente il Maestro divino, ad aderire a lui completamente con la mente, la volontà e il cuore, così da essere, sul suo esempio, via, verità e vita per le anime. Si diventa esperti maestri delle anime - diceva - nella misura in cui si è umili e diligenti discepoli di Cristo (cfr. AD 98). Voleva che la coscienza viva e umile della propria insufficienza fosse sempre presente ai suoi figli spirituali per riconoscere - sono sue parole – l’«incorrispondenza all'eccesso della divina carità» e recitare un "nuovo e doloroso Miserere per le innumerevoli negligenze, peccati e offese". Preghiamo lo Spirito del Signore perché ispiri sempre alla Chiesa e alla Famiglia Paolina le vie appropriate e più feconde per quella "nuova, lunga e profonda evangelizzazione", lucidamente auspicata dal vostro Fondatore già nel 1926 (cfr. La primavera paolina, p. 680) e oggi priorità pastorale della Chiesa universale».

Bangui – I Vescovi centrafricani nel messaggio per l’Avvento redatto dal Consiglio permanente della locale Conferenza episcopale denunciano – “Il popolo è ancora ostaggio di gruppi armati presenti sul territorio e che occupano la scena nazionale”. “La libertà di portare avanti le proprie attività e di far fronte onestamente ai propri bisogni è una pura illusione per molti nostri compatrioti. In effetti l’insicurezza costringe ancora numerose persone ad abbandonare le proprie case e villaggi per rifugiarsi in campi di fortuna, come a Bangui, a Bambari, a Batangafo” continua il messaggio, che ricorda come i Vescovi abbiano denunciato “più volte le condizioni di

precarietà alle quali sono ingiustamente sottoposti i centrafricani dall’inizio della crisi politico-militare. Si direbbe una discesa all’inferno”.

I gruppi che si sono combattuti durante la guerra civile, la coalizione ribelle Seleka e le milizie anti balaka, pur formalmente sciolti, hanno dato vita a una serie di gruppi banditeschi che imperversano nel Paese, al punto che i Vescovi affermano di essere “inquieti per la crescita del grande banditismo”. Tra gli atti commessi da queste bande, ci sono i sequestri di persona, che non hanno risparmiato nemmeno i missionari, come p. Mateusz Dziedzic, sacerdote Fidei Donum polacco, di recente liberato. “Sembra che alcuni si divertano a disseminare armi in mezzo alla popolazione. È un gioco estremamente pericoloso, che non favorisce certo la coesione sociale” afferma il messaggio. Dopo aver esortato le forze di sicurezza nazionali e internazionali a rafforzare le misure di sicurezza a favore dei civili, i Vescovi concludono ricordando che la pace duratura è un dono di Cristo, che però dipende da ciascuno, e che lo strumento ideale per ottenerla è il dialogo e il confronto costruttivo.

AMERICA / MESSICO Dalla prima domenica di Avvento: dodici giorni di preghiera per la pace

I Vescovi del Messico invitano a pregare e a lavorare per la pace nel paese. Il comunicato

della Conferenza Episcopale messicana, inviato anche all’Agenzia Fides, ha per titolo "Preghiamo e lavoriamo per la pace", e viene diffuso mentre il paese sta vivendo una situazione di grave tensione e crisi.

"Il nostro paese è in crisi. Questo ci fa male e ci riguarda tutti. La disuguaglianza, l'ingiustizia, la corruzione, l'impunità, la complicità e l'indifferenza ci hanno fatto precipitare nella violenza, nella paura e nella disperazione" si legge nelle prime righe del comunicato. Per questi motivi i Vescovi propongono che dal 30 novembre al 12 dicembre (per 12 giorni) tutti i messicani si uniscano in preghiera per la pace nel paese. Così giungeranno alla festa della Madonna di Guadalupe, il 12 dicembre, chiedendo la conversione dei messicani e, in modo speciale, di quanti provocano sofferenza e morte. Venerdì 12 dicembre, festa della Beata Vergine Maria di Guadalupe, il Santo Padre Francesco celebrerà nella Basilica Vaticana la Santa Messa per l’America Latina.

Dalle ultime notizie risulta che aumentano le manifestazioni contro il governo e le autorità locali da quando è stato accertato il coinvolgimento del sindaco e di altre autorità di Ayotzinapa (vedi Fides 10/11/2014) nella vicenda dei 43 studenti scomparsi. Negli ultimi giorni ci sono state manifestazioni nella capitale, con un numero consistente di studenti e di delegazioni provenienti da tutto il paese. Impressionante la richiesta della pace e della non violenza espressa da tutti i partecipanti davanti al palazzo del governo della capitale.

ASIA / FILIPPINE Card. Tagle: Chiese d'Asia dei martiri senza nome, testimoni del Nome di Gesù

"La Chiesa in Asia potrebbe sempre rimanere un piccolo gregge, ma essa ha numerosi martiri, la maggior parte di loro, senza nome. Essa è proprio una Chiesa dei senza nome, ma che ha professato e continua a professare il Nome che è al di sopra di ogni nome, Gesù Cristo": è la conclusione del discorso che il card. Luis Antonio Tagle di Manila ha tenuto il 18 novembre scorso al Simposio internazionale di AsiaNews sul tema "La missione in Asia: da Giovanni Paolo II a Papa Francesco".

Per il giovane porporato, quello di una "piccola" Chiesa che rimane una "grande" testimone della fede è pure il messaggio che le Chiese asiatiche possono offrire al mondo: "Noi in Asia siamo

abituati ad essere un piccolo gregge. Ma i numeri non sempre determinano la vitalità della Chiesa nella vita e nella missione. Nella sua piccolezza, una comunità rimane sempre Chiesa, la presenza del popolo di Dio. La gioia missionaria può essere sperimentata anche in una situazione di umile minoranza. Vi è una forza inspiegabile proveniente dalla fede, che scorre dinamica nella debolezza e nella sofferenza".

Parlando in modo più specifico delle Filippine, il card. Tagle ha ricordato che "la nostra nazione è colpita ogni anno in media da 20 tifoni, per non parlare dei frequenti terremoti, delle eruzioni vulcaniche e dell'enorme corruzione: non fa meraviglia perciò che lì esistano milioni di poveri brulicanti".

Nella visione del card. Tagle (e di papa Francesco), i poveri non sono solo degli "assistiti", ma anche "grandi maestri della fede", con "storie di speranza e di coraggio" da ascoltare.

Davanti a queste sfide, la missione della Chiesa filippina si è allargata includendo la vicinanza ai poveri (cibo, sanità, educazione, assistenza, lavoro...); l'impegno sociale e per la custodia del creato, entrambi ispirati alla dottrina sociale della Chiesa; fino all'impegno nei media, non solo la radio e la tv, ma anche i social network, divenuti un nuovo areopago.

EUROPA Convegno CEI: Chiesa missionaria libera e in uscita

(…) E’ una Chiesa missionaria in cammino e in ascolto che – a partire dalla base – aiuta se stessa a non sentirsi sotto assedio. E’ decentrata e vive la periferia. E’ giovane. Ma è soprattutto una Chiesa missionaria fatta di persone che hanno voglia di rimettere al centro del discorso missionario Gesù e il vangelo. Questi i messaggi emersi al termine del Convegno missionario italiano, al quale hanno partecipato 880 delegati in sala, e oltre 100 da tutto il mondo - tra missionari, volontari, laici e religiosi - collegati in rete sui social e in diretta skype.

(…) Un Convegno che lascia traccia di sé fin dal suo epilogo e che, come auspica don Alberto Brignoli, Ufficio della Cooperazione missionaria tra le Chiese, tra gli organizzatori dell’evento insieme a Missio, avrà delle ripercussioni serie nella vita quotidiana e verrà 'tenuto in caldo' per portare altri frutti. Si desidera una Chiesa in uscita che sappia stare, quando è necessario ascoltare, e che sappia uscire quando è necessario mettersi a servizio delle periferie umane. OCEANIA / INDONESIA Indonesia: Vescovi chiedono registrazione dei matrimoni misti

(…) La Conferenza episcopale indonesiana (Kwi) rilancia la battaglia in difesa dei diritti civili, in particolare nel settore dei matrimoni misti fra fedeli di religione diversa, che vanno sempre riconosciuti, garantiti e tutelati. Una posizione di rottura - riferisce l'agenzia Asia News - rispetto alle leggi dello Stato del Paese musulmano più popoloso al mondo, in base alle quali una unione civile segue sempre la celebrazione di una funzione religiosa e in essa trova il suo fondamento; perché solo il manto della religione rende effettivo il legame fra due persone, che "devono" professare la stessa fede. In ballo i principi supremi della laicità dello Stato e la pratica delle conversioni forzate, soprattutto verso l'islam. La posizione della Chiesa, in prima fila nella lotta per la libertà religiosa, rappresenta un caso isolato perché anche indù e confuciani, come i musulmani, sono contrari alle unioni miste (…).

From Connection to communion

This is the title of the new section that replaces in CTN the heading "Digital Vocabulary". The

theme is very beautiful but also challenging. There are so many possible shades, which can lead us

to a fairly thorough reflection. However this is not an opportunity to develop great content but, in

keeping with the guidelines of our 7th

Inter-chapter and in the logic of the web 2.0, which is based

on interactivity, we want to encourage the reflection on the subject in a simple and dynamic way.

Now the internet is something that came into our lives in a way that we cannot disregard:

digital communication is a reality which we cannot ignore. The internet is part of our daily lives: it

has shortened distances and changed rapports. On the one hand, it all seems so fast and new, and

elicits a certain fear. On the other hand, it all seems so normal and essential that it leads us to

think that, perhaps, we can no longer live without the internet.

We are talking about a phenomenon that undoubtedly is marking the evolution of mankind

and therefore we can say that we are experiencing a change in anthropology. The Church and

specifically consecrated life are called to live in the world in a different way than in the past, but

always making visible God's love in the following of Christ. Thus, it is in this present concrete world

even with its digital ambience, that we as Pastorelle Sisters are called to live out the ministry of

pastoral care!

Certainly this passage from the connection to communion is a great challenge for us today,

therefore it is particularly enlightening the question that we find in Pope Francis’s message for the

XLVIII World Social Communications Day 2014: "How can we make the network a real meeting of

communion?"

As Pastorelle Sisters we have a presence on the network to be reckoned with, also taking

into account that our average age is around 65 years. Just to give an example: 39% of our Sisters

are presently on facebook, (about 175 personal profiles), currently the most popular social

network. Let us then help each other to qualify our presence that it be a faithful expression of our

charismatic identity. This means fostering a true culture of encounter, that we be women of

communion and thus realized the dream of the Father: "One fold and one Shepherd...” (cf Jn

10,16) “That all be one ... " (Jn 17,21).
