Crusader Excellence in the Junior State of America (JSA)! by Jacqueline Roig

Yet another great year of debates and conventions has come to an end this weekend with Spring State for the Junior Statesmen of America. JSA, a political awareness and de-bate club, offers three conventions each year for the dozens of schools in the Southeast State- Fall State, Winter Con-gress, and Spring State. CSCA’s chapter brought 44 stu-dents to Spring State 2012- by far the biggest chapter there! Each year, Teacher Advisor Pastor Mick Weltin, kicks off the weekend by bringing our group to Disney. The last two days of the trip include stimulating speakers and invigorat-ing debates, which all of our students are excited to observe and participate in. The convention closes with elections for next year’s Southeast State cabinet, after a weekend of cam-paigning and speeches.

CSCA was extremely successful, with five students step-ping up to debate- Austin Cantrell, Kyan Reynolds, Alex Aroyo, Ariel Boliek, and T.J. Littlejohn. Moderators in-cluded Kathryn Edmunds, Anna Park, Natalie Davison, and Jacqueline Roig. Austin Cantrell won a best speaker award, and senior T.J. Littlejohn brought home two from his last convention. This completed his high school JSA career, leaving him with an astounding eight gavels altogether! We are also excited to announce Junior Natalie Davison won the position of SE State Lieutenant Governor, and Kathryn Edmunds was elected SE State Governor! Congratulations to both, and great job to the many students who helped them with their campaigns.

Each year, one senior from one of the many schools in JSA is selected as the Southeast State Junior Statesman of the Year, and this spring Alex Aroyo was chosen for this honor! A successful year culminated this weekend with a exceptional Spring State, and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for our chapter next year in JSA!

Kathryn Edmunds, SE State Governor and Natalie Davison, SE State Lieutenant Governor.
