TRANSCENDING  TRAUMA  In  the  US,  one  person  in  twelve  is  diagnosed  with  chronic  PTSD,

and  many  more  live  with  aftereffects  of  trauma.

One  theory  is  that  trauma  overwhelms  our  natural  coping  mechanisms,  leading  to  chronic  distress.  This  seminar  brings  together  the  most  effective  known  therapies  for  restoring  that  natural  balance,  presented  by  highly  skilled  local  experts.

As  always,  the  focus  is  on  the  diverse  potential  for    transforming  trauma  into  meaning  and  depth.

Both  professionals  and  the  community  at  large

can  anticipate  exceptional  benefit  from  this  seminar.

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will be able to:

1. Recognize  the  importance  of  psychological  flexibility,  and  to  whom;  just  to  consumers?  Or  to  therapists  as  well?

2. Discuss  the  ACT  (Acceptance  and  Commitment  Therapy)  model,  rationale  and  background,  as  well  as  key  figures  in  development.

3. Understand  the  special  impact  of  PTSD  on  relationships,  and  the  advantages  of  adding  couples  therapy  to  individual  therapy.

4. Identify  the  various  ways  sexual  trauma  can  manifest  in  a  victim’s  life,  as  well  as  trace  back  life  issues  to  trauma  experienced.

5. Develop  action  plans  to  make  core  services  more  trauma  informed.  6. Engage  positive  psychology  as  a  tool  to  help  clients  grow,  embrac-‐

ing  the  present  moment  and  developing  hope  for  the  future.

KELLI FOLTZ-DANIELS, LISW, CADC; her MSW is from the University of Iowa; dually licensed as clinical social worker and certified alcohol and drug counselor.
