IN THIS ISSUE

HELLO, Hello to the Cold Crew family

I am pleased to announce the inaugural issue of our employee newsletter, CREW NEWS.

Through my years with the company, it was in learning more about my fellow employees and the other departments, facilities and regions that I realized the power of belonging to something much bigger. I see the togetherness and teamwork in action every day. I see our employees help their co-worker one aisle over, reach out to welcome someone new, remove safety hazards from our dock floors, take calls at home to answer questions and travel without notice to support other facilities. This makes us Best in People and Best in Cold.

This communication is specially designed to share our news and our stories. Crew News connects you to your fellow Crew teams across the country. Inside you will find features that include updates and information on our employees, business, benefits, diverse community and much more. We encourage you to take part in the newsletter, so send us your story at [email protected].

I am excited about the launch of our first issue and look forward to continuing to tell our story.

Thank you and enjoy reading.

CHRISTOPH ERDEL SUPERINTENDENT, AUTOMATED WAREHOUSING / LEBANON

IT PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR CURRENT WORKFORCE. USCS STAFF WILL BE ABLE TO WORK WITH THESE NEW MACHINES AND GROW EVEN FURTHER IN THEIR CAREERS HERE.”

MARK SCHUCHTERAUTOMATION PROJECT ENGINEER / CAMDEN

“I joined the USCS team in July 2018 and the Lebanon and Wilmington automation projects were already in full swing. The overall support and involvement of upper management and those involved have made this a great project to work on. This will be a busy and exciting summer with both the automated Lebanon AS/RS and the Wilmington gantry layer picker going live. The teams eagerly await the first receipt and shipment with our new automation systems and are ready to lead USCS into the bright future of automation and conventional warehouses working side by side.”

ROBERT A. URSERYAS/RS OPERATOR / LEBANON

“Ten years ago, when the Lebanon plant first opened, I was able to start on the ground floor of a new warehouse. That was a rewarding experience that brought the promise of an exciting future. Now I have a similar opportunity with the addition of automation at US Cold. One common misconception about automation is that it will “take jobs” or “we won’t be needed.” In fact, automation will change the work that we currently perform, and create new career paths. The Cold Crew here and throughout the company will always be the cornerstone of US Cold.”

CHAD BOWENDIRECTOR OF AUTOMATIONAND INNOVATION / CAMDEN

“In 2017, we began on a journey with the management team in Lebanon to develop an expansion to service additional volume from Maplehurst bakeries. Jointly engineering and operations worked to develop a 9800 pallet 3 AS/RS crane system with integrated pick tunnels solution.

Board approval spurred a host of activity in the USCS teams. Operations, IT, Safety and Engineering are working on all aspects of the requirements to ensure a successful startup.

Christoph Erdel has been the local site lead for the Lebanon expansion project and has worked with Mark Schuchter and Alex Cocco from the Engineering team to ensure all these details were covered.

USCS accepted the first customer pallets in June. Congratulations to all the dedicated individuals who have worked tirelessly to bring this from concept to reality.”

SARA LEE FROZEN BAKERY

Tyson’s spin-off of Sara Lee and acquisition by Kohlberg & Company to create Sara Lee Frozen Bakery produced a tremendous opportunity for USCS. Thanks to a team effort in which we bid against our major competitors and won, Sara Lee is one of our newest customers. Thanks go out to:

OUR BENEFITS

USCS dental plan entitles subscribers to four free cleanings per year and good oral hygiene is linked to good physical health including a reduced risk of heart disease and cancer.

OUR CUSTOMERS

The long-running slogan for Sara Lee, the newest addition to our fantastic customers, is “Everybody doesn’t like something, but nobody doesn’t like Sara Lee.”

OUR SERVICE

Our warehouses keep food cold and safe. But, believe it or not, creating “cold” isn’t truly a thing. Cold is just how we describe a lack of thermal heat. Your air conditioner does not “create” cold air, it removes heat from warm air.

NEIL WATERS DIRECTOR AND GENERAL MANAGER OF SWIRE COCA-COLA HONG KONGPRESIDENT OF THE HONG KONG BEVERAGE ASSOCIATION

The Coca-Cola Company’s “World Without Waste” is a vision of collecting and recycling the equivalent of 100% of the packaging in which its products are sold by 2030 or earlier. Swire Coca-Cola’s plans to put infrastructure and incentives in place are a key driver of “Drink Without Waste,” a cross-sector plan for drastically reducing the amount of beverage packaging that ends up in landfills.

A WORLD WITHOUT WASTE

We thank Dave Harlan for his role in “Drink Without Waste.” The Camden office no longer provides paper, plastic or Styrofoam cups for beverages to encourage employees and visitors to use refillable options. Let us know if your office also adopts this policy. Remember to Think Green, Act Green. There is no Planet B.

RED CROSS GIVING DAY SOUTHERN REGION

March 27th is Giving Day. It is an opportunity for local communities to come together on one day to help families who have been impacted by a home fire or other disasters and urgently need Red Cross services. D’ANDRE SIMONTON COOKING UP SOME DELICIOUS BBQ

WAREHOUSE SUPERVISOR / MCCLELLAN PARK4 YEARS WITH USCS

D’Andre Simonton was raised by his grandparents in the small town of Dubach, Louisiana, and that’s where he learned about making the best barbeque you ever tasted. His grandparents smoked hogs and beef and hosted friendly family competitions to see who would reign true Pit Master. D’Andre has never entered an official competition, but he knows he is good, real good, because he puts his own twist on preparing it.

If you are wondering what the secret is to his barbeque sauce, guess again. He doesn’t use barbeque sauce. He says the smoke is the flavor and for those of you who slather your meat with barbeque sauce D’Andre asks, “What are you trying to hide?”

In the tradition of his grandparents, D’Andre makes cooking a family affair and gets the greatest joy from the smiles delicious homestyle barbeque puts on someone’s face. For D’Andre the smell of barbeque wafting from the grill evokes memories of family reunions and good times.

What’s in D’Andre’s future for his passion? He sees a restaurant called Big D’s.
