L.P. To compare the life processes of mammals

The gestation period of mammals can vary within a species. Look at the table of data.

1. Round the gestation period (days) to the nearest 10. The first two have been done for you.

2. Draw a bar chart to represent the approximate gestation period (days). Remember:

3. Answer the questions on the next page.

Mammal A group of classification where the animals are warm blooded, have hair of fur, they give birth to live young

Questions to answer:

1. Draw a bar chart to present the ap-

proximate gestation period (days) of

different mammals.

2. Which animals have the longest and

shortest gestation periods?

3. Why do you think this is?

4. What pattern can you identify from the

data?

5. Discuss any anomalies.

6. Some animals give birth to multiple

young at one time. Identify an animal

in the table that does this.

7. Why do you think some animals give

birth to a litter rather than one off-

spring?

8. What questions might you want to in-

vestigate further about the data?

Computing

Decomposition is when you break a problem down into smaller parts.

E.g. When making a sandwich

1. Get all the different ingredients (bread, butter, jam) out of the fridge first.

2. Get the equipment out (chopping board, knife)

3. Take out 2 pieces of bread

Etc.

Your task

You are going to design a new app. It might be a

fitness app, a game, a news app or anything else

you would like.

Break down your app by drawing and labelling the

different screens that the user will see. You can

have as many different screens as you want.

E.g. Sumdog

Super Challenge: Can you write an algorithm to make it change from one of these screens to another?

Art

Zentangles.

This week we are going to create zentangle patterns. You could use any shape for them to do repeating patterns in. Watch the video below as an ex-

ample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK7JZkKc48M

1. Draw a rectangle: 2. Split your shape into sections. 3. Complete each section with a

30cm

20cm

repeating pattern.

You might want to listen

to some relaxing music

while you create your

zentangle.

R.E.— Faith through Art — Lesson 5

How do Muslims worship God through Art?

Muslims never draw images of God, or the other prophets such as Jesus. This is to avoid wor-

shipping false idols. But they still want to show how special God is, so use they other art

forms instead. The main one of these is calligraphy.

Calligraphy means ‘beautiful writing’.

Calligraphy is the most highly regarded and very important element of Islamic art. As Muslims

are not allowed to draw anything that has a soul (humans and animals), so they have to turn

to other forms of drawing.

As well as calligraphy, Islam also has other forms of art. These include Vegetal (flower and

leaf) designs and geometric patterns.

Creating your own sultan seal

A Sultan is a King of a Muslim

country. They use an Ottoman

seal as a signature seal for

documents, it is also placed

on coins during the Sultan's

reign. Let's look at the most

famous of these seals: the of-

ficial seal of Sultan Suleiman

1555-1600.

To create our own Ottoman seals. We are going

to merge the letters of our name together in a

way that is inspired by calligraphy. If your

name was ‘Jake’ you need to merge the letters

j, a, k and e. Here are some examples . . .

Once you have created your seal design fill it

with vegetal and geometric patterns.

French

Bonjour tout le monde. Ca va? Alors on se prépare pour partir de l’école primaire dans

trois semaines,… (see if you can work out the meaning)

Task: This week I am giving you a challenge. I’d like you to have a go at working

through an ‘activity’ page (on the next page). The topic area is sport.

Here is some help:

A) For the first task ‘A’, you have to firstly write out the sentence, but you have to

choose either the verb ‘joue’ or ‘fait’. Remember to use ‘joue’ for all the game sports

you PLAY , and ‘fait’ for all the activities you DO Then it is a good idea to translate

each sentence into English. (You will be doing this in Year 7.)

B) For task ‘B’, this could be a conversation between you and a friend ‘Charlie’ on the

phone. Where there is a gap, ONE of the words at the end of the task fits in.

Note :some words have accents which indicates the past tense.

C) Task ‘C’ is a straightforward translation exercise into French.

D) Task ‘D’ the words are in the wrong order. Please write out the sentences correctly

Take your time over this. Good luck.
