Creative Thinking In my Socials 10 class, we did a project based off of WWI that helped me develop creative thinking skills. This table shows some aspects of creative thinking. After reading the description, write down your strengths and your areas for further growth. If you didn’t address an aspect, you don’t need to fill those spaces in. My Growth Areas Description of Competence My Strengths Novelty & Value -Creating more ideas that can benefit my community and environment -I can improve and use my writing and art skills to describe and solve problems surrounding my community and family Creates ideas that are novel – new to self, age group, or community; creates ideas that are valuable – provides a sense of accomplishment, solves a problem, provide a new perspective that influences others -Coming up with ideas that support my academic classes and what I am learning about in that class Generating Ideas -I can think of more ideas outside the box that I wouldn’t generally think of Generates ideas independently and/or by building on the ideas of others; chooses to learn a lot about a topic to have capacity to get ideas related to that topic; develops ways to allow the conscious & unconscious minds space for creativity -Choosing projects and skills in a class that I am skilled at and that I can accomplish successfully Developing Ideas -I can be more thorough about fleshing out ideas that I think of, even if they won’t necessarily be my best work Can make ideas work within the constraints of the form, problem, or materials; when ideas don’t work, adjusts steps to improve success; expects ambiguity, failures, setbacks and perseveres to develop ideas and get them to work -Taking starter ideas that I am confident in and creating more information in detail -I can take a concept that I understand it well and give it my own take (poetry, short stories, spoken word) Now you can use what you have reflected upon here to write your competency © Riverside Secondary School
