Lesson 16: Creating a Page in the Pages & Files Manager

Creating a page in PBworks requires the ability to link pages and , and you can make as many pages as you

need on your workspace. Please keep in mind, however, that each page created may not be obvious to users

unless you link to them in the FrontPage, SideBar, or in a related page. Additionally, students must log in

to their MyPBworks e-Portfolio using an account that has access to an editable page.

Date: _Week 16_ Presenter: Dr. Helen Bond Purpose and Assessment

What will students be able to do at the end of the lesson?

1. Create a Page in the Pages & Files Manager 2. Link pages to other pages

Lesson

Selected course content that will be moved to an online environment:

The paper-based directions for creating and link

pages will be moved online

What will students be able to do at the end of the lesson?

1. Use the page editing tools of their e-Portfolio workspace to design their workspace pages.

Lesson

Selected course content that will be moved to an online environment: Directions to how to use the page editing tools will be moved to an online environment:

Lesson 19: Applying Plugins to the Design of the Page Plugins are page extras that can be included into pages through the editor. If a plugin relies on a third party

service, then the performance of that plugin will depend entirely on that third party service. See the Insert

Menu section of this manual to see what plugins are available in the free Educational edition of PBworks. Date: _Week 19_ Presenter: Dr. Helen Bond Purpose and Assessment

What will students be able to do at the end of the lesson?

1. Evaluate the most appropriate plugin for the e-portfolio page 2. Apply the plugin to the design of the web page in the e-Portfolio.

Lesson

Selected course content that will be moved to an online environment: The directions for selecting, evaluating, and applying plugins to the design of the web page in the e-Portfolio will be posted online.

Activities to be used online:

Students will select, evaluate, and incorporate plugins to the design of the web page in the e-Portfolio.

Assessment Method

Students will select, evaluate, and incorporate plugins to the various e-Portfolio pages.

Activities to be used in the classroom: This course is 100% online.

What are some things that might be challenging, and how will you address them? The most challenging aspect of this lesson by far will be searching through and evaluating the many hundreds of available plugins. In Google Gadget along, there are several thousand gadgets. To address this challenge, I will send students to “Google Gadget Advisor” that presents the best in gadget

Lesson 20: Sharing Pages

Students may want or need to share a page with a peer evaluator or an instructor. Sometimes you may want to

alert a specific user of content on a specific page in your workspace. Rather than manually constructing an

email with a link, but PBworks has included the "Share this page" feature which streamlines this process for

you. Students will only be able to share pages with users that appear in the wiki's membership list AND have

access to the page. No user can change the security of the page with the "Share this page" function, and only

users with current access to the page can be added to the list of users to share the page with

Date: _Week 20_ Presenter: Dr. Helen Bond

Purpose and Assessment

What will students be able to do at the end of the lesson? 1. Share a page in their e-portfolios with users that have access to the page and thee-Portfolio.

Lesson

Selected course content that will be moved to an online environment:

2. The paper-based directions for sharing a page

will be moved online

Activities to be used online: Students will access their e-portfolios online and share pages with users that have access to the e-

Portfolio

Assessment Method:

Students will share three e-Portfolio pages with

users that have access to the e-Portfolio.

Lesson 21: Deleting Pages and Files in the e-Portfolio

Deleting pages and files is an irreversible action, and once a page or file has been deleted it cannot be recovered. The

backups we make of your workspace are in the event of catastrophic system failure, and cannot be used to retrieve

specific pages and files on your workspace. In order to minimize the risk of deletion, you may want to put your users'

permission level to "Writer." Writers can edit pages and add files, but cannot delete.

Lesson 23: Copying a Page To easily create a copy of a page, just click the "Copy this page" link which appears in the right panel of each page in

view mode. If you don't see this link, then you do not have permission to create a page in the workspace and/or folder the

page is currently in. For security, pages that are created with Copy this page are created in the same folder as the original

page and have the same security preferences.

Date: _Week 23_ Presenter: Dr. Helen Bond Purpose and Assessment

What will students be able to do at the end of the lesson?

1. Recognize if they have permission to copy a page. 2. Copy a page in their e-Portfolio

Lesson

Selected course content that will be moved to an online environment: The paper-based directions for copying a page

pages will be moved online

Activities to be used online: Students will access their e-portfolios and copy a page, while noting what page-level security allowed copying rights.

Assessment Method:

Students will copy two pages in their e-portfolios

recognizing what page-level security allowed copying rights.

Activities to be used in the classroom: This course is 100% online.

What are some things that might be challenging, and how will you address them? I foresee few challenges in students copy a page in their e-portfolio. A few students may not easily recognize the page level security settings that may prevent copying. To address this, I will have students develop two

separate pages with two different types of security, so that they might experience the inability to copy. Then I

Lesson 24: Using the Navigator

The Pages & Files manager is a great way to see what is on your workspace, but you may want to explore the

pages available to you on your workspace without navigating away from the current page. The Navigator on

the right hand side of your workspace in view mode accomplishes just this. If you don't see the Navigator in the

right panel, your workspace Administrator may have hidden it using the Customization settings. The

Administrators of the workspace must check "Show Navigator" option in the workspace's Customization setting

in order for users to use the Navigator. By using the Navigator, you can explore which files are available to you

without navigating away from the current page.

Date: _Week 24_ Presenter: Dr. Helen Bond Purpose and Assessment

What will students be able to do at the end of the lesson?

1. Use the Navigator to explore which files are available to you while staying on the current page you are

viewing.

Lesson

Selected course content that will be moved to an online environment:

The paper-based directions for using the

Navigator will be moved online.

Activities to be used online: Students will explore the Navigator by creating folders inside the Navigator and then uploading files

inside those folders. Students will then explore the

folders inside the Navigator by clicking on them.
