Our mission is to change the way that people experience classical concerts and to break down the traditional barriers between orchestra and audience.

By combining well-loved with less familiar programmes, we aspire to create an environment that is both welcoming to new audiences and yet still delivers a sense of discovery, freshness and vitality to the more seasoned concert-goer.

Our London seasons take place at Cadogan Hall, a 900-seat concert hall in the heart of Chelsea. We have also appeared in concert halls around the world from La Scala, Milan, to City Hall, Hong Kong.

We also enjoy the Patronage of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, and in 2011 performed at the wedding of HRH Prince William to Catherine Middleton, which was broadcast to an estimated global audience of two billion people.

Like most arts organisations, income from ticket sales only covers a small percentage of our costs. We exist in no small part thanks to the generous support of those individuals, companies and charitable trusts who feel that our commitment to breaking down the barriers to classical music both enriches lives and benefits the wider community.

In 2021, LCO will be 100 years old - yet we remain as fresh and vital as ever. Between now and our Centenary, we have bold plans, which include doubling the number of London concerts, providing more debuts for new and emerging artists and extending our community outreach programme, LCO Music Junction.

Developing multi-year partnerships with our supporters is a key tenet of our strategy to achieve these goals.

We invite you to share our vision by joining us on the exciting journey that lies ahead and aligning your brand with one of the UK’s leading ensembles.

SEASON OVERVIEW 2015-16 CADOGAN HALL

In marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, we explore the life and legacy of one of history’s most controversial figures: Napoleon Bonaparte. To some he was a visionary leader who laid the foundations of modern Europe; to others he was a power-crazed dictator. Even Beethoven went from idolising Napoleon as a revolutionary hero, to declaring him a tyrant. What is indisputable is his passion for music: “of all the fine arts”, Napoleon declared, “music is the one which has the most influence on the emotions”.

This season sees a number of exciting guest performers make their LCO debut, including conductor Riccardo Minasi, soprano Lucy Crowe and pianist Yevgeny Sudbin. We also welcome back trumpeter Alison Balsom who leads the orchestra in a special baroque programme.

Who does it benefit?Working alongside thirteen partner organisations in Kent, Berkshire, Waltham Forest and Havering, Music Junction directly benefits around 160 young people every year, with a broader impact felt by participating staff, parents, carers, schools and the wider community. Participants range from those with social, emotional and behavioural needs, young carers and pupils with visual impairment and communication difficulties through those who attend modern academies, private and grammar schools and music services.

LCO MUSIC JUNCTION

Now in its sixth year, LCO Music Junction is a ground-breaking project that aspires to effect long-term social change through the medium of music.

How much does it cost?Every year, LCO needs to raise approximately £180,000 to make Music Junction happen. Over the years, we have received significant financial support from a range of generous contributors. Our funding partners allow us to further develop and consolidate the programme, and to ensure a lasting legacy in terms of social inclusion and cohesion, music education and excellence in the arts for children and young people.

What is the impact? Results clearly show that the project achieves positive outcomes not only for the participants but also for the wider community. The monitoring of mentoring activity, the evaluation of behaviour and the comments of children, parents, musicians and staff have all demonstrated the real benefits of taking part in communal creative activity within a broad social context. The project has encouraged not only a greater involvement in and love for music, but also an enthusiasm for wanting to change things for others.

How does it work?Guided through a series of workshops by a composer-in-residence and supported by LCO musicians, participants work over two terms to create a new piece of music. The project culminates with them playing alongside LCO in a showcase performance as part of LCO’s regular concert season – an extraordinary experience, particularly for those whose circumstances offer few such opportunities.

“A remarkable performance played with total commitment. One of those rare pleasures in Life ... where elements – such as music-making, location and audience – combine to produce a tangible sense of occasion.” Douglas Cooksey, Classical Source, 7 February 2015

“Conductor and players in compelling rapport.”Martin Kettle, The Guardian, 6 December 2014

“LCO’s honest vigour and palpable display of enjoyment always refreshed the ears.” Geoff Brown, The Times, 5 February 2015

LCO AUDIENCE

2015-16 VENUE

CADOGAN HALLSet in a fantastic location in the heart of Chelsea, Cadogan Hall has become one of London’s leading venues. The hall’s 900 seats, excellent acoustics and luxurious surroundings makes it the first choice for many of the UK’s top orchestras, as well as a favourite London destination for international touring ensembles.

Cadogan Hall is the chosen venue for the world-famous BBC Proms Chamber Music Series and also offers a vibrant selection of contemporary, jazz, folk and world music events as well as debates and conferences.

Cadogan Hall offers several private spaces ideal for drinks receptions and there are numerous bars and restaurants in the area for pre- or post-concert drinks and dinner.

Using data collected during the 2014/15 season, we have undertaken a comprehensive audience analysis using Mosaic by Experian. Based on household postcode research, our audience sits overwhelmingly in the top A and B segmentation groups, with the majority within these occupying the ‘World-Class Wealth’ and ‘Penthouse Chic’ sub-segments.

See the below info-graphics for more information on these groups.

World-Class Wealth are the most affluent group in UK society. Almost exclusively found in London, they live in extremely expensive city homes or apartments in grand terraces in elite central London locations. At the pinnacle of their careers, with positions as senior partners in City firms or successful company owners, they enjoy privileged lifestyles moving in high status circles.

Penthouse Chic are young, highly successful City workers renting in prestige locations in central London. Spectacular salaries from demanding jobs in the City pay for their premium-priced flats and their work hard, play hard lifestyles.
