AN EVENING OF FASHION: Opening Reception, Fashion Talk & Fashion CinemaJoin us for the opening night of Copenhagen Fashion Festival!

We invite you for a fashionable evening, kickstarting the festival with a celebration of fashion. Go explore the Fashion & Fabric exhibition before we kick off the evening with cocktails and Fashion Talk: Fashion at the Museum, where we take a closer look at fashion design as museum objects before we open the Fashion Cinema for a screening of the documentary Fashion Revisited.

Fashion RevisitedFollow the Haute Couture treasure hunters as they relentlessly seek out the most iconical pieces and historical creations of the world’s leading fashion designers. Meet the gatekeepers of these fashion temples and share in their activities as they scout, restore and catalogue the most memorable dresses, shoes, trunks and all kinds of accessories. Each of the two films presents a comparative profile of three different but complementary Haute Couture houses: Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Cartier, Chloé, Goyard, Jean Patou…

FAMILY WORKSHOP: Fashion Sketches

How do fashion designers sketch and how do their design processes work? This workshop will give you unique insight into the secrets of fashion sketching. During the workshop you will create your own fashion illustration on paper with inspiration from the exhibition Fashion & Fabric - the starting point of a new expression. What happens if you pair elements from a dress from the 18th century with contemporary fashion design elements? Unfold your talents via textiles, feathers, denim, pearls, buttons, pens, clippings and all sorts of other materials!

Join us for an exciting journey through the history of fashion and fabrics - from Hedebo needlework and hair-on-silk embroidery to haute couture. During fashion week the curator behind the permanent exhibition will offer two guided tours at a special fashion festival price! The first tour gives you insight into fashion accessories - from the 18th century embroidery to quirky handbags from the 1950s, while the second tour provides you with exceptional information about the costumes and dresses of the 20th century.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT COPENHAGEN AS A FASHION METROPOLIS? I think the best thing is that we keep improving Copenhagen Fashion Week and making it more internationally inclined, attractive and hopefully a fashion metropolis on par with the other European cities. I like that the city of Copenhagen is in focus during fashion week and that we present some acknowledged Danish brands that show beautiful collections season after season.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE COPENHAGEN STYLE?Laid back, elegant, simple and cool!

DANSK DESIGN TALENT – MAGASIN PRISENWe take a closer look at this year’s award winner, Tonsure, for a talk about Danish men’s fashion, aesthetic direction and their role on the Danish fashion scene. In connection with the talk, experience the exhibition with styles from the Tonsure collection.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT MAGASIN KGS. NYTORVJoin us for an exclusive sneak peak behind the scenes of Denmark’s leading department store, Magasin, as we invite you to a talk about Magasin as a department store; which processes go behind the selection of brands - and what are the visions for the future?

The talk will be followed by a screening of the fashion documentary Trend Beacons, which takes you behind the processes of international trend forecasting.

TREND BEACONSFashion trend documentary from 2014. The documentary Trend Beacons looks into the hidden world of trend forecasting, explaining how things really work. A handful of people are the trend beacons – the futurists that holistically look at what goes on globally; geopolitics, arts, design, culture, finance, sports etc. They develop a forecast for designers two years into the future. The trend beacons explain what makes a trend emerge and how businesses need to decide when to enter the wave and ride it. A wrong decision can cost a lot of money in lost business and also make or break a company. Trend Beacons is a tour de force into a hidden world that affects everybody on a daily basis, but almost no one knows about. You will never look at the fashion and design industry in the same way after seeing this documentary.

COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK 10 YEARSThis season, Copenhagen Fashion Week celebrates its 10 year anniversary and we celebrate it at the festival with an event, where we invite you behind the scene of Copenhagen Fashion Week as we talk to important actors from the Danish fashion scene - a funny retrospective look on the past ten years, airing anecdotes and never-told stories from the fashion week universe to let us know what really goes on behind the scenes.

The talk will be followed by the screening of Fresh Dressed.

FRESH DRESSEDAmerican documentary from 2015. Fresh Dressed is a fascinating chronicle of hip-hop, urban fashion and the hustle that brought oversized pants and graffiti-drenched jackets from Orchard Street to high fashion’s catwalks and Middle America’s shopping malls. Director Sacha Jenkins’ music-drenched history draws from a rich mix of archival materials and in-depth interviews with rappers, designers, and other industry insiders. Featuring Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Nas, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz, Damon Dash, André Leon Talley, A$AP Rocky, Marc Ecko, Big Daddy Kane, Kid ‘N Play and many others.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK & FESTIVAL?Ooh, that’s definitely the atmosphere. Cheerful people gathered for their love of fashion. The creativity flourishes and there is a very distinct vibe in Copenhagen those days, from retail to cafés to the streets.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT ONLINE SHOPPING?It’s definitely that it’s out of sight, out of mind. You forget that you just spent money when the product isn’t there yet. Also, it’s a feeling of double joy. You’re happy when you click to buy and again when you receive the purchase. Receiving the product feels a little like getting a gift – of course you paid for it yourself.

WHERE DO YOU FIND STYLE INSPIRATION? WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON?I use Instagram a lot – and I find most of my inspiration there. Also, I find inspiration from movies and American red carpet events, for instance on people.com

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT COPENHAGEN AS A FASHION METROPOLIS?Definitely that this week is full of inspiration and good-looking people. By good-looking people I mean that people care about dressing up and care about their appearance. The city is just more beautiful when everybody, from people to restaurants to cafés, decorate themselves.

HOW DO YOU COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER PROFESSIONALLY? AND PERSONALLY? Adam: We always try to understand each other’s views.It’s important to us that we focus on our key values and areas. But if I

It’s not exactly written in the stars that the girl Coco someday will become one of fashion’s most influential designers, when she in 1883 is born into a poor French family. A 12-year old Coco is sent to an orphanage where she learns to sew. Later while making a living repairing clothes for the bourgeoisie and singing at bars, she meets the rich Étienne Balsan. Coco starts sewing her own clothes and over time the world discovers her unique skills as a fashion designer.

The documentary Trend Beacons looks into the hidden world of trend forecasting, explaining how things really work. A handful of people are the trend beacons – the futurists that holistically look at what is going on globally; geopolitics, arts, design, culture, finance, sports etc. They develop a forecast for designers two years into the future. The trend beacons explain what

makes a trend emerge and how businesses need to decide when to enter the wave and ride it. A wrong decision can cost a lot of money in lost business and also make or break a company. Trend Beacons is a tour de force into a hidden world that affects everybody on a daily basis, but almost no one knows about. You will never look at the fashion and design industry in the same way, after seeing this documentary.

He is one of the most recognisable men on the planet, yet one knows little about the man behind the façade that is Karl Lagerfeld. What is he like? What drives him? His self-stylization, in which secrecy plays an important part, puts him alongside icons such as Andy Warhol and Jean Cocteau. His carefully crafted image is a marketing tool but also a representation of himself: “There is a glass wall between myself and the rest of the world.” This intimate portrait of Karl Lagerfeld will break through the glass wall and show the person behind the iconic façade.
