Today’s Girl Scout is more than a thinker: She’s a doer, a dreamer of ideas, creator of solutions, and a believer in herself. This year’s theme captures the spirit of this creative, proactive girl! It incites her to action and encourages her to make her dreams a reality.

This year, we’re planning for the best Girl Scout Cookie Sale® yet! With Hallie the Hedgehog leading the way, in this guide you’ll find tips, ideas and activities to get your Girl Scouts® excited about the upcoming cookie sale. Plus — it’s Lemonades’ 10th birthday! With all the fun to be had and milestones to celebrate, we hope this kit will help educate and rally your girls for this upcoming cookie season.

Lemonades 10th

Birthday Party EVENT

Kick-off the cookie season and start on a super fun note with a Lemonades 10th Birthday Party and Sleepover! Lemonades’ 10th birthday is the perfect way to get your girls excited, educate them about this year’s cookies, sale process, and safety, and have an awesome group event. Talk to your girls about how special Lemonades are: As a Baker’s Choice cookie that’s totally unique to ABC Bakers, it’s a fantastic selling point! Order pizza, ask your girls to bring their favorite jammies, and have a great sleepover party.

Birthday Dessert: Frosty Lemonades in Lemon Cups

Ingredients: One lemon for each of your girls 2 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice,

(3 cups if using bottled lemon juice) 1 cup sugar 5 cups water 1 gallon favorite vanilla ice cream Optional: Strawberries for garnish

Prep: 1. Prep your lemon bowls: Cut each lemon in half, and using a melon baller or spoon,

scoop out the pulp and seeds. Thoroughly dry the inside and pop in the refrigerator for chilling.

2. Add lemon juice and sugar to a pitcher, stir until sugar is dissolved. Add water, stir until well mixed, refrigerate at least one hour to chill.

3. Blend 2 cups of chilled lemonade and 4 cups of ice cream in blender. 4. Spoon scoops of frosty lemonade into each lemon cup, garnish with strawberries. 5. Enjoy!

Tie-Dye Extravaganza

Event

Tie-dye T-shirts are the perfect accessories for this year’s theme of Dream, Design, Do! Host a tie-dye extravaganza and make T-shirts for your troop to wear throughout this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Sale. They’ll love the creative, hands-on activity and the vibrant hues. Purchase an at-home tie-dye kit from your local craft store, and ask each girl to bring a plain white T-shirt for dyeing. Have rubber bands on hand for the girls to make unique, one-of-a-kind patterns! To keep the mess at a minimum, wait for a beautiful day and tie-dye outside.

After your troop’s tie-dye T-shirts have dried, use puffy paint/fashion paint to personalize them even more! Write

your troop number, names and add fun designs. The T-shirts will be a great way to get your girls excited about the cookie

sale, and to wear to troop meetings and more!

Girl Scout Spa Day

Event Set up a Girl Scout Spa! Ask each of your girls to bring a couple of bottles of nail polish (our current favorite: a bright yellow in honor of Lemonades!) and buy some nail art pens in the cosmetic section of your local store. Take turns painting each other’s nails! Once each girl’s base color has dried, break out the nail art pens and have the girls create designs for one another, using the Dream, Design, Do doodles as inspiration.

Serve luxurious spa refreshments! Cut up lemons and cucumber slices for girls to put in glasses of water, and serve cut fruit and vegetables for snacks.

Round out the Girl Scout Spa Day

with Yoga for Kids DVD! Lead the girls in following

the instructor, and help the girls as

they follow along.

Girl Scout Cookie

Memory Game Event

What you’ll need: Memory Game Printout (page 12), scissors

Prep: The Memory Game is a fun way for your girls to get familiarized with Girl Scout Cookies! Print at least two copies of the Memory Game Printout. Cut along the dotted lines, and place the individual tiles in a 4x4 square pattern.

Play! Have the girls take turns flipping two tiles and trying to get a match! The girl with the most pairs at the end of the game wins. Play a couple of rounds, and then ask the girls to answer some questions about the cookies, such as…

• Which cookies are this year’s Baker’s Choice cookies? • Which cookies are gluten-free? Which are vegan? • Which cookies include eco-friendly packaging?

“Which Girl Scout Cookie Are You?”

Event

What you’ll need: Fortune Teller Printout (page 13), scissors

Prep: Print out one copy of the Fortune Teller Printout, cut along the dotted line. Begin with the printed side down: Fold in half to make a triangle, unfold. Fold in half the opposite way, so that when you unfold the paper, the creases make an “X.” Fold each of the four corners in toward the center, using the intersection of the folds as a reference for where the four corners should meet, so that you have a smaller square. At this point, the four hedgehogs should be touching in the middle of the square. Then, flip the square over and repeat the last step, folding the four corners into the middle. Fold in half; slide thumbs and pointer fingers in the sleeves.

Play! Let the girls take turns telling

each other’s cookie fortunes!

Upon finding out which cookie each

girl got, ask the girls to recite a feature or

characteristic about that cookie.

• Girls will use COCO to set and track goals, create a plan, and use e-cards to

reach their customers. If this is the first year your girls are using COCO, help them register for an account.

• Pick an avatar, set sales goals for this Girl Scout Cookie season, and get your girls excited and familiarized with the platform. If your troop is Cadettes or older, download the COCO mobile app as a group and explore.

• As a troop, watch ABC Bakers’ COCO video on our YouTube channel to introduce COCO or refresh your girls’ memory.

COCO GOAL SETTING

COCO, our customizable, Web-based business center, helps Girl Scouts organize their cookie sale. Now is a great time to get your girls started on Goal- Setting and Decision Making, two of the 5 Essential

Skills, using the awesome COCO platform!

SUPER SALES PREP

Prepare your troop for the best Girl Scout Cookie Sale ever with these key activities.

• Practice one of the 5 Essential Skills, Money Management! Spend time going

over the prices for boxes of Girl Scout Cookies! This will be easier for the older Girl Scouts, but help younger Girl Scouts memorize the dollar amounts for orders of one to five boxes, as well as the price for a case. Get creative: Split the girls into two teams, and make flash cards!

• Ask the girls to brainstorm ways to amp up their cookie sale: What can each

girl do to sell the most cookies? Serve samples at booth sales? Sell at local events?

• Set up sample booth sales or have items available for girls to set up a booth.

Role-play proper booth sale etiquette and good selling techniques. Offer prizes for role-playing or super selling techniques. This activity is also perfect for two of the 5 Essential Skills, People Skills and Business Ethics!

SAFETY TIPS

The start of the Girl Scout Cookie Sale season is the best time to revisit important safety tips for selling cookies.

Revisit the Girl Scout Cookie selling essentials: Girl Scout sashes

or vests, order forms or mobile device for COCO ordering, an adult’s telephone number for any emergencies.

Create and design a plan: Print out maps of your local area and streets for

your girls to map out routes!

Advise the appropriate buddy system for your troop’s age group: Daisies, Brownies and Juniors should always be accompanied by an adult while selling. Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors can use a peer buddy system for a fun, safe sale!

Ask your troop to make and decorate a mock front door to a house.

Have girls knock on the door and practice their selling and safety skills.

Stay Safe Game. Divide girls at the station into groups of four to six girls. Give each group a picture with a big “Thumbs Up” and a big “Thumbs Down,” Girls are instructed to hold up the right symbol based on situation. Have the game moderator describe things that might happen in a cookie sale. Examples might include: customer invites girl into house (Thumbs Down) or turn money into the troop cookie manager weekly for safe keeping (Thumbs Up).
