At Goddess Medspa we offer several dif-ferent treatments to reverse the signs of aging. For example Sublative, a Radio-Fre-quency resurfacing treatment used to treat wrinkles and textural irregularities such as enlarged pores and uneven skin tone. Mi-crodermabrasion and Chemical Peels are also recommended to deeply exfoliate the skin and remove dead cells to prepare the skin for a daily regimen at home. What Products Should I use on a daily basis to reduce wrinkles and sun damaged skin?

For wrinkles, fine lines and pore reduction, a prescription strength bleaching cream in combination with a form of retinol will give you a more even tone (less brown pigmentation), shrink pores and achieve a more radiant youthful appearance. We prescribe personalized products based on your specific needs.

What is the best way to reduce eye lines and wrinkles?

To reduce wrinkles around the eyes we use a Retinol Eye Repair Serum. Our product deli-cately and effectively reduce the signs of ag-ing of the eye area with its time release retinol to minimize irritation. Botox injections can also be done to the eye area for more dramatic results within days!

What can be done about the ef-fects of aging on my neck?

A very effective procedure is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections. PRP uses your own growth factors contained in your blood to help rejuvenate any area of your body, in-cluding the neck. Another option is Skin Tight-ening treatments, which use radio-frequency and light energies to stimulate collagen pro-duction. Better yet, combine them both for the best neck treatment outcome! For home use we recommend Nectifirm neck cream. It helps the skin appear firmer and lifted, reduces the appearance of rough skin for a younger neck and décolletage.

Injectables vs. the creams?

A combination of both will deliver the best re-sults. For quicker results we recommend BOTOX injections. BOTOX inhibits the ability to create deep facial expressions that manifest frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and deep wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet). Results are noticed in 3-5 days. Juvederm XC facial filler is another available option that restores facial volume to reduce laugh lines (parenthe-sis lines) or used to plump the lips for a more voluptuous look. Both BOTOX and Juvederm XC injectables are administered in the office with minimal discomfort and no downtime.

What can I do to prevent pre-mature aging?

Limit sun exposure. Exposure to UVA rays speeds up the aging process causing us to look old before our time. Whenever outside, even on a cloudy day - wear sunscreen! Be sure to buy a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or more and with ingre-dients that actually block UVA rays such as Titanium Dioxide and/or Zinc Oxide. These ingredients will help minimize the appear-ance of sun spots and wrinkles.

I was 17 years old on my first visit to Reynosa, Mexico back in 1974 with my Dad and family to eat cabrito. We crossed the old Hidalgo bridge and worked our way up the boule-vard to the main square, and then a few blocks south we arrived at El Pastor. It was all glass on the store-front and that evening you could see all the way inside the restau-rant from the parking lot across the street.

I had not tried cabrito yet and was really curious about trying it. My dad had already introduced me to menudo which I still like a lot, so

he had my trust in taste that night in front of El Pastor.

Back in those days just about ev-eryone traveled to Reynosa for fine dining and authentic Mexican cui-sine on weekends. Dinner parties in Reynosa were a big thing for Ameri-cans living in the McAllen during the early 70’s. And El Pastor became one of the Valley’s top favorites.

As circumstances worsened across the border Jesus Martinez and his family brought the business to the McAllen dining scene to better connect with his dedicated diners

and to introduce cabrito to others in the McAllen area.

It was 1966 when El Pastor restau-rant was established. At first, it be-gan as a small wooden shackle house (muy austero no lujos) with borrowed tables from the local Coca Cola distributor. The only sign that Martinez could afford was on loan from the Carta Blanca beer company. Its menu was very limited and only offered cabrito, machito, fritada, cabecita and machacado.

In spite of these limitations and sparse finances, its owner, Mr. Eleu-

terio Martinez managed to keep the business afloat by keeping his restaurant patrons happy. In time the restaurant received recognition from both sides of the border for the great foods it served, and for its comfortable ambiance (El Pastor Reynosa installed central air-condi-tioning in the early 70’s).

After many years of sacrifices and efforts, El Pastor was relocated to a bigger and better building in 1973. It was then that Mr.. Martinez had the vision to build a cabrito res-taurant with air-conditioning, which in those years wasn’t very common.

This new concept attracted a lot of attention and encouraged many VIPs to visit the restaurant. Mexico’s president, many state governors, senators, movie stars, artist, comics, sport’s athletes, important businessman, and even some very distinguished members of the clergy have dined at El Pastor in Reynosa.

In 2009 El Pastor restaurant opened El Pastor Grill in Mcallen, Texas for the family ’s loyal customers across the border. The new McAllen El Pastor is operated by Jesus Martinez, a third generation ex-pert in the business who literally grew up all around it. “To thrive in the restaurant business one has to constantly provide excellent recipes, great ser-vice, and an impeccable ambiance. We want our visitors to feel the ambiance that Reynosa was well noted for back in that time frame,” Martinez points out as he readies for their 50 year anniversary set for September 15 this year.

Today, El Pastor-McAllen continues with a grand tradition of selling cabrito and char grilled steaks. Most recently it has added excellent seafood and antojitos (Mexican snacks, treats) known in Old Spain as tapas for those who love and cherish the broader spectrum of Mexican cooking. They have also expanded their serving times to include a very extensive and delicious Mexican breakfast buffet service at the new McAllen location on Exp. 83, near Best Buy at the Jackson Rd. exit.

Now run by the family ’s third generation, El Pas-tor Grill is well prepared to continue the old family tradition that started back in the 1940’s by their grand parents who founded El Jardin Restaurant in Reynosa and in Mexico City.
