LUNCH & DINNERMADE FRESH DAILY FROM SCRATCH

It’s not easy getting over the hill, specially when you are trying to keep pace with dynamic industries like fashion magazines, construction, real estate, and all the newer generation gizmos. I like keeping busy, staying on top of my game, and giv-ing it all I got. But, sometimes my busy lifestyle keeps me from being at my best and I need a boost to reach the top. So, I keep my distance from those high octane “cafenators” that only give me a kick in the head, and later on, a headache. Instead, about 10 years ago, I discovered a vitamin and mineral supplement, Regeneration by Nature’s Plus, and I have taken it ever since.Regeneration is a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement that I know will replen-ish all the “right stuff” I am lacking from missed meals. It’s loaded with botanical extracts and antioxidants for protection and brain power vitamins like Vitamin B6

at 2500% DV! It’s liquid ingredients come in a softgel casing that is easier on the stomach than powdered capsules. Find Regeneration at Major Health Foods in Tiffany Plaza, and tell them Ralph sent you!

Jorge Jaber is a man with pacience and he has to be in the wine business. It takes at full year, from summer harvest to next summer bottling before he can see the fruits of his labor, a bottle of Jaber Estate Yineyard Wine, ready for distribution from his vineyard west of Mission, Texas.

At the estate on September 9th Jorge and about 600 friends and family celebrated the bottling of his first harvest. The wine tasting event of his first bottling was extraordinary and featured exquisite catering from City Cafe, live music and personal tours of the “ranch”, as Jorge calls the property that cloisters a processing shed, a small lake, an office, a gazebo and 18 acres of vineyard.

This, the valley’s first commercial estate vineyard is located about 10 miles northwest of Mission on Western Road, a little beyond the point where 107 bends northward around Moore Field. There, the grapes were harvested in the summer of 2011 and immediately cooled, juiced and stored in the large stainless steel vats for months. The wine was then transferred to oak barrels, where it patiently aging a bit more. The Blanc du Bois (for white wine) were ready for bottling in February and the Spanish Black (for making red wine) was bottled in May.

From both red and white grapes harvested at the 18 acre vineyard Jaber has produced some impressively distinctive flavors. He says, “its all in what the climate brings during the growing season”, but it also indicates good soil conditions and that “the grapes can be successfully grown in this area” according to Texas wine expert enologist, Benedicte Rhyme. “The red has perfect character to compliment grilled meat and wild game while the white Blanc du Bois is well matched for local Texas redfish and flounder.”

Jaber is now preparing the site for curious visitor who want to learn more about wine making. He has plans for a gift shop and facilities to host events at the estate, the valley’s first commercial vineyard, and possibly a “Texas Best”. Look for Jaber Estate Wine soon at local fine dining restaurants.

To learn more about it contact: Benedicte at [email protected].

Sculpting for contour is a technique that produces the appearance of high-lights and shadows to give more defini-tion or alters the appearance of facial characteristics. Often used to shape cheeks, thin a nose, or soften a jaw line, the technique relies on creating strong contrasts in the right places by using light and dark shades of cream foundation, or by using dark and light shades of blush colors and eye shad-ows. For example, darkening the area below a cheekbone and highlighting the area creates a shadow that sculpts the cheek.

Apply a foundation that matches your skin tone all over the face. And, then contour with the lighter highlights over the T-zone. Use the dark tone to create shading elsewhere. This saves a step by applying all three shades of foundation (dark, medium, and light in the appro-priate places) all at the same time.

It takes a little practice mastering the technique, and if you have any kind of art background you should be well on your way. Always work with familiar brands and to test spot before apply-ing anything new. And, be patient, cre-ating a new and eye catching expres-sion can help you catch your share of attention!

June first appeared in the magazine one year ago this month, and has since become a reg-ular in Contempo. Wearing a 50’s halter top and makeup styled from the era she shows a familiar vintage look characterized with red lips, full brows and brilliant, winged cat eye liner.

For most at the time, eye lashes were long but not dense giving more contrast to a pale foundation and a neutral blush. Well defined, thick eyebrows were in like flint that tapered outward to a clean, curved point while the in-ner points were rounded or cornered.

Winged cat eyeliners were the standard but appeared with endless flips and shapes to en-hance the appearance of the eyes. They were applied with pencil for shaping and with liq-uid or gel eyeliners for a pronounced on the uppers.

1950’s lips were iconic and followed the lead of familiar stars of the time like Marilyn Mon-roe and Jane Mansfield who used a tapered red to shape a pleasant smile. This look was accented with a beauty mark in the lower right quadrant.
