dear readers, India’s experience so far with airport

privatisation has been mostly positive. delhi, mumbai, Bengaluru and hyderabad have been decent money spinners for their private sector owners. even the six that are now up for privatisation are all profitable and have been giving more than 10% compound annual growth rate over the last four-five years. Besides this, Jaipur and Ahmedabad are in crying need for capacity augmentation.

In fact, India has the fastest growing aviation market in the world, despite some airlines faring poorly financially, according to the International Air transport Association. therefore, in order to handle the rush in the Indian skies, the government has announced a plan to start a massive airport-building and upgrade project. this would entail a total expenditure of about rs 2 trillion over the next 10 years, preparing it to handle 1 billion air trips per year. the government expects that a lion’s share of the investment would come from private players.

Given the rapid airline passenger growth in India, capacity is being breached in multiple airports. so, all things considered, there is a definite business case for multiple airport developers and investors to take a positive view on the privatisation proposal.I personally believe the success of the airport privatisation plan will depend on how much freedom operators get in managing airports, something that has often been a bone of contention. Private players are bound to seek more clarity on whether the government will make land available for expansion, the exit process and how favourable it is to them. they will also want clarity with respect to ease of operations, the freedom they are given in operations and the fitness and transparency of data on current health of the airports that is given to them..

GVK lost right to exercise ROFR, AAI tells Delhi HC

the Airports Authority of india (AAi) has thrown its weight behind bid services division (mauritius), an arm of bidvest, in its stake sale dispute with equity partner gvK group.

the AAi told the delhi high court that gvK Airport holdings has lost the opportunity to exercise the right of first refusal (rofr) for buying out the 13.5% stake in mumbai international Airport (miAl) as the time period to exercise that choice has expired.Advocate digvijay rai said it is now up to the AAi to decide on acquiring the South African firm’s stake. According to the contract, if the AAI doesn’t purchase the shares, its consortium

partners can sell to a third party.According to sources, bidvest has been in talks with infrastructure major Adani group for sale. gvK owns 50.5% of miAl, while the AAi owns 26%, bidvest 13.5% and AcsA owns 10%.bidvest claimed that gvK had to complete the acquisition of its 162 million equity shares in miAl within 30 days of the offer. in this case, the offer was made on march 4, 2019. on the other hand, gvK argued that 30-day clause under the share purchase agreement begins after approval of transaction from competent authorities.

Advocate Kartik nayar, representing gvK Airport holdings, said the company has invoked the arbitration clause against bidvest over this dispute. gvK said the transaction requires approval from the government, competition commission of india and lenders of bidvest.

debt-laden gvK group on April 2 had moved the high court seeking to stop bidvest from selling its stake in miAl to a third party. the court had asked gvK and bidvest to amicably resolve the dispute which was unsuccessful.

gvK had a debt of around rs 12,854 crore at the end of March 2018. The GVK-led consortium has been running India’s second-busiest airport since 2006 and is building a second one in navi mumbai for about rs 16,000 crore.

GVK signs pact with ADIA, NIIF to offer 49 % stake in Airport arm

gvK power and infrastructure ltd, on April 18 said it agreed to offer 49 per cent stake in gvK Airport holdings ltd in favour of Abu dhabi investment Authority (AdiA) and the national investment and infrastructure fund (NIIF). In a filing with BSE, the city-based infra major said the transaction is

subject to conclusion of confirmatory due diligence by AdiA and niif, agreement on definitive documents and satisfaction of customary closing conditions including regulatory and third-party approvals and lender consents.

"gvK Airports developer ltd (gvKAdl) and gvK Airport holdings

ltd (gvKAhl), subsidiaries of our company have signed a term sheet and exclusivity agreement with the Abu dhabi investment Authority and the national investment and infrastructure fund for an investment in new shares in gvKAhl equating to a 49 percent stake," the filing said.

stake in gmr Airports ltd, which runs India’s biggest airport.

the deal will pump rs 1,000 crore into gmr Airports, a unit of gmr

Reliance Jio eyes global investors for monetising its fibre assets

in december, telecom operator reliance Jioinfocomm announced that its board had approved schemes to spin off the company's fibre and tower assets to separate entities. this move would give Jio, which boasts 2.20 lakh towers and nearly 3 lakh kilometres of optical fibre assets, the leeway to

monetise its assets - the buzz suggests that it is leaning towards the infrastructure investment trust (invit) route - and, thereby, pare down debt. the two new entities are Jio digital fibre pvt ltd and reliance Jioinfratel pvt ltd.

The valuation of the fibre assets is pegged at $6-8 billion. sources in the know told the economic times that three investment banks -moelis, citi and icici securities - have been appointed to reach out to potential investors across the Americas, middle east and Asia, and Australia. reliance, furthermore, is keen to continue as the sponsor of the invit and retain a minimum 15% stake in it, in which case, the remaining 85% would be sold to five global investors.

the line-up of interested investors reportedly includes canada pension plan investment board (cppib), caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (cdpQ), Abu dhabi investment Authority, Qatar investment Authority, Kuwait investment Authority, Kingdom holdings, Khazanah, Allianz and macquarie, among others.

however, talks are still at a preliminary stage and management meetings are expected to kick off in the coming weeks. the company hopes to wrap up the deal by mid-fy20.

IndiGridInvIT looks to raise Rs 2,560 crore

india grid trust (indigrid), an infrastructure investment trust (invit) sponsored by sterlite power grid ventures ltd, will raise rs 2,560 crore of primary capital through a qualified institutional placement (Qip), the company said in a stock exchange filing.

of this, private equity investors KKr and gic will subscribe up to rs 2,060 crore of the issue. invits manage

income-generating infrastructure assets, offering investors regular yields and a liquid way to invest in infrastructure projects. the proceeds of the Qip will be used to acquire transmission assets. indigrid has signed agreements to acquire five more transmission assets from sterlite power worth rs 11,500 crore, subject to the approval of unitholders.

GMR Rajahmundry Energy executes resolution plan

gmr infrastructure on may 3 an-nounced execution of a bilateral resolu-tion plan between its associate company, gmr rajahmundry energy (grel), and the grel lenders. According to the reso-lution plan, which has been approved by all the lenders, existing debt of rs 2,353 crore has been brought down to a sus-tainable debt of rs 1,412 crore. Against this sustainable debt, the gmr group has already infused rs 395 crore towards meeting 20 percent of principal for repay-ment of the debt and the interest servicing obligations of the GREL for the first year.

this leaves balance outstanding sus-tainable debt of rs 1,130 crore, carrying a floating rate of 9 percent per annum repayable over 20 years. the balance debt of rs 941 crore has been converted into long dated cumulative redeemable preference shares (crps) carrying 0.1 percent, which is repayable from 17th to the 20th year, the company said. “the first-of-its-kind resolution plan offers a mutually beneficial resolution for the lend-ers and the company through a long-term solution for the existing debt and related obligations of the group,"

Queensland govt rejects Adani's plan to protect endangered bird species, delaying mine project

Australia's Queensland state government has rejected a management plan of indian energy giant Adani to protect an endangered black-throated bird species, saying the company's proposals do not meet the approval conditions for the proposed billion dollar mine project.

the environment department's decision will delay the controversy-hit Carmichael coal mine project indefinitely, media reports said on friday.

The black-throated finch management plan and a groundwater plan are the two persisting hurdles before the

indian energy giant could begin work on its mine project. the groundwater plan remains under review of the state government.

According to media reports, Queensland environment officials met with Adani officials on Thursday and said that the finch management plan could not be approved in its current form because "it fails to meet Adani's environmental authority".

The black-throated finch bird population at the site represents the largest known population of the endangered southern species, an

environment spokesperson said. the company would now have to review its management plan to protect the species and re-submit it.

in response, Adani's Australian ceo lucas dow said: "we are now feverishly working through their new requests".

“Although we believe the current version of the black-throated finch management plan already meets our project conditions, we are not going to be pig-headed about it and we will review the feedback.

"Department officials that are presiding over this have been reviewing those plans throughout 18 months, so to now get to the 11th hour and have them provide some additional requirements they believe are required have left us scratching our heads a little," he said.

the Queensland government has dragged its feet to this point, dow said.

Adani, which already has mining and environmental licences from the state government, requires the state approvals on management plans on the endangered finch bird and groundwater in order to commence the mine construction.

Right time foR pRivate paRticipation in aiRpoRt infRastRuctuReGovernment to encourage PPP model of airport development

with the recent examples of tata and Adani investing in airport infrastructure in the country, industry experts feel it to be the

right time for the private players to put their money in the country’s airport and aviation infrastructure. As the aviation economy is down, the private players will be able to bid at decent valuation.

recently, the tata group along with international investors gic pvt. ltd of singapore and ssg capital management ltd of hong Kong commited an investment of rs 8,000 crore for a stake in GMR Group’s airport business. The tata investment is expected to give gmr fresh capital and the werewithal to aggressively bid for more global and domestic airports. tatas also has investmnts in two domestic airlines, Air Asia india and vistara.

the Adani group recently emerged as the winner in bidding for six airports - Jaipur, lucknow Ahmedabad and guwahati, thiruvanthapuram and mangaluru. these airports are expected to see domestic passenger growth of 15-25% a year. the Adani group would control 11% of the domestic passenger market and 10% of international passengers.

this April, gvK group also have signed a term

sheet and exclusivity agreement with Abu dhabi investment Authority (AdiA) and the national investment & infrastructure fund (niif) for an investment in new shares in gvKAhl equating to a 49% stake. gvK recently sold bengaluru airport to investors led by fairfax to overcome a cash crisis. gvK has a got a 20% share of international passenger and 14% of domestic traffic from mumbai. it recently negated a bid by the Adani group to buy share of its erstwhile partners in mumbai airport led by Aiports company south Africa, by invoking the first right of refusal and increasing its stake to 74% from 50.5% earlier. gvK also won the concessionaire bid for the navi mumbai airport, which will have a capacity to handle over 60 million passengers a year.

the government will be mainly adopting the public private partnership model (ppp) in developing its airports. while these ppp experiments have led to the creation of world class airports, it has also helped AAi (Airports Authority of india) in enhancing its revenues and focusing on developing airports and air navigation infrastructure in the rest of the country, the civil Aviation ministry said in a recent statement. the statement added that PPP in infrastructure projects brings efficiency in service delivery, expertise, enterprise and

professionalism apart from harnessing the needed investments in the public sector.

currently, the airports being managed under the ppp model include delhi, mumbai, bangalore, hyderabad and cochin.

Analysts feel allotment of projects to new players help in breaking the dominance of traditional ones such as gmr & gvK. they feel there has to be a cap on the number of projects a new player could be allotted.

today, more private players are showing an interest in investment in airport infrastructure as there is a better predictability on revenue. earlier, tariffs were based on a cost-plus methodology, which capped upsides from revenues streams such as gains from real estate monetization. the new rules incentivize the concessionaire (operator), as it can retain upsides from higher non-aeronautical revenue such as real estate monetization and operational efficiencies that come from higher passenger footfalls.

now, a new base access charge (bAc) regime is in place, which provides much more visibility on revenue accretion. under the new model, revenues simply rise with an increase in volumes or the amount of air traffic handled. The investment by the tata group-led consortium involves a higher payout if some conditions are met, one of which is the continuation of the bAc regime.

indian airport infrastructure is coping under pressure with the rising passenger population. indian airports handled 265 million domestic passengers in 2016, and the figure is projected to have crossed 300 million in 2018, according to the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA). The entire airport network of india is equipped to handle only 317 million passengers. the report had indicated India’s airports would “exceed structural capacity by 2022.”

“There’s an urgent need for capacity building in major indian airports as they are bursting at the seams and close to saturation,” binit somaia, south Asia director, cApA, said in an Afp report.

indian civil Aviation minister suresh prabhu said the government will spend $60 billion to build 100 new airports over the next 15 years. A cargo policy is also on the offing that is expected to boost the country’s logistics capacity.

recently, the minister of state for civil Aviation Jayant sinha said the airport infrastructure in metros will see a committed investment of $ 14 to $ 15 billion over the next few years. the Airports Authority of india (AAi) looking at a capex of around rs 25000 crore in the next few years. he said the government will ensure the metro cities will have 2 or 3 airports in them. while the private sector will be involved at airports at the metros while AAi will look at creating heliport and seaports among others, said mr sinha at the recently held india Aviation

summit. delhi is adding a fourth runway, a fourth passenger terminal and another passenger terminal. hindon airport, on delhi outskirts, will be ready to receive flights by March. Similarly the government is working hard to complete navi mumbai airport by 2021-22, said minister sinha. the bengaluru airport will be having a secnd runway and terminal while a new terminal will be constructed in chennai.

An international Air transport Association (iAtA) report had called the government to address the infrastructure woes and amend the policies that pose “excessive costs” on airlines. iAtA had indicated the air passenger to treble to 500 million people fly to, from or within india. the iAtA report had called upon the government to develop a strategic master Plan for the country’s airports, open the Navi mumbai airport at the earliest and make use of the military airspace to expand airspace capacity.

the report said fuel cost for indian airlines make 34% of operating costs as against the global average of 24%. According to Alexandre de Juniac, iAtA ceo, the lack of competition in fuel and lack of true open-access to on-airport fuel infrastructure is strangling the lifeblood from the airlines. “If we can comprehensively fix jet fuel and infrastructure issues, india will be primed to take a giant step forward in the world of aviation,” he said.

india is currently considered the third largest domestic civil aviation market in the world. India’s passenger traffic grew at 16.52 per cent year on year to reach a whopping 308.75 million in fy18.. with the iAtA predicting a 6.1% growth rate post 2019 for the next 20 years, indian aviation could witness 527 million journeys per year by 2037.

indian airlines, which operate around 500 aircraft, have ordered an additional 1,000 planes, according to an estimate by hsbc in december.

the indian carrier Jet shut its operations recently, while spiceJet and indigo are not showing good numbers. Air india has piled a debt of around $8.5 billion. the government has infused rs 2100 crore in Air india as part of guaranteed borrowing.

Development of KathmanDu as sustainable smaRt city

smart cities are associated with high hopes and aspirations of the people for a better and higher living standards having all basic infrastructure facilities which are in place.

As days are passing, people are more and more educated with higher learning and knowledge on smart city development with positive hope & curiosity. higher the hopes, higher the expectation and it will be a real challenge for any government to handle. most of the people have started dreaming and looking for a good day to come soon.

Kathmandu, the capital of nepal is one of the natural and beautiful city in the world and due to the rich in nature, the city will definitely upgraded to the sustainable living standards if and when

the basic infrastructure requirements are met from the government using its natural resources.

to continue in this direction, there is a strong need to understand the terms related to smart, sustainable, livable, etc; and tools to measure the existing state and the parameters to be considered for morphing the existing city in to a smart city. smart city does not refer to tall structures with modern & upgraded road infrastructure. it is an overall development required, not only for the day but also number of years to come with sustainable & robust ict technology on a socio-economic standards. but on the other hand developing towns, villages and temple towns, hand in hand with the cities are very important. it is not a miracle

for a change until & unless the beneficiaries i.e. people also to be morphed to be smart.

the existing infrastructure facilities are clearly brought-out so that any further development or up-gradation if necessary can be identified. The various existing facilities are presented in the plots.

The growth in area over the years, what next for 2021??

the famous pashupatinath temple near utilization of solar and wind mill as an thrubhuvan Airport alternate source of energy Traffic jam during morning peak one way road water crisis in the urban area .

this requires to form the parameters with their definition, their measurement, their relative weightages and mainly their aggregation to a composite index to know where does Kathmandu city stands on a smart scale and also to work out on the gap assessment and filling the same to match to a reasonable & expected level to qualify for a sustainable and livable smart city.

based on the experience, exposure & expertise of the authors, various issues stated above raised are addressed leading to the development of Kathmandu as smart city. more than the smart city, the city must be sustainable for a good standard of living with comfortable quality of life without people asking for any basic requirements.

Development of Smart City ParametersIdentification of various influencing

parameters for a smart city is a complex task and challenge followed by their definition and the exact correlation with the development. the parameters vary with location, area, place to place and city to city which will be altogether different. certain parameters which are commonly related to basic infrastructure and hence common to all cities, towns and villages as most of the habitats living will suffer from inadequate basic infrastructure facilities like water, power, housing, education, health, good roads etc. to mention a few.

so, the basic exercise should be to work on these infrastructure parameters to reach the first level of satisfaction which is termed as datum. later on, other factors which are qualitative in nature for better living standards must be taken up and considered for the next stage of development.

The final stage will be to take all the parameters for sustainability as most of the projects are worked for yesterday’s requirement, due to delays, finance and other related hidden issues. hand in hand, while taking forward the various infrastructure related parameters development and their relative importance for the development of sustainable cities, the main stigma attached are the beneficiaries i.e. the people. Unless and until they become smart, no city can never become smart. so, smart people require smart cities and smart cities require smart people.

Citizen Involvement and participation it is clearly understood that every local

civic body has its own way of carrying out the developments based on the available financial resources and the manifesto in line with the agenda prepared for the development. the involvement and participation of every citizen are very vital as they are the ultimate beneficiaries. government or authorities should not identify and develop the requirements based on their priorities which varies to a great extent from the actual requirement leading to dissatisfaction amongst people.

Identification of Parameters & their aggregation to a composite Index namely Sustainable Smarty City Index (SCI)P

Parameters are identified considering the basic requirements to qualify for smart city tag

for livability & sustainability for future. generally the developed city must be sustainable for at least next fifty years. While planning, next fifty year's requirement must be taken into consideration. presently there may not be any yard stick to measure and quantify all the parameters scientifically to a composite index, which directly refers to the existing state and the degree of development to be required to qualify as smart & sustainable city. in the absence of any methodology, developments may take place haphazardly leading to in-equilibrium.

Parameters are identified for the development based on the priority & weightages of each one along with the development of value scores for each parameters. value scored of each parameter will be measured based on the existing facilities. in order to quantify the level of development or growth required, the existing level and its weightage to overall growth is a must. certain parameters are qualitative in nature and others are quantitative which can be measured easily. All these parameters are to be compounded or aggregated to obtain a relative composite index to know whether the city or town requires development and its extent. there is a need to obtain value scores on a scale and the product of weightage assigned value scored which is taken as the numerator. the denominator will be for a standard or a maximum set of score expected for a fully developed smart town or city.

A simple and lucid mathematical model is developed for the purpose to aggregate the parameters which are quantitative and quantitative in nature. this obtained result will reflect the level at which the existing city or town is towards smartness and the parameters which require to improve the smart city index.

perform for the development of sci

Step 1After identifying various parameters, their

relative weightages are developed by the data obtained from beneficiaries, promoters, rwA's, administrators & experts involved for the development. for a total of 100 marks put together, for all parameters, the relative weightages are obtained by calculating the weighted average from the data obtained from all the interviewed persons such that summation of all will be 100 or unity.

Step 2The measured value of each parameter in

terms of the existing facilities (as & where status) is obtained by interviewing the same persons & again the weighted average is obtained which is termed as Value Scored for each parameter.

Step 3A pie chart is obtained taking several radials and

concentric circles & each circle representing 10% and 25% interval and each radial line indicates one identified parameter. The periphery of the circle, indicate 100% development whereas focal point represents zero development.

Step 4Along the radial lines, the obtained value of

each parameter in percent based on as & where condition is marked & joined to obtain the existing condition of the city, town or village under consideration for sustainable development. This will be the starting point for the development required or expected to reach 100 percent which is nothing but reaching periphery or to any other percent to reach satisfactory levels.

Step 5If each parameter is required to reach

100% level for complete development, the necessary improvements required must be addressed and transferred to field. After this, the second pie chart is drawn.

Step 6 The sustainability or Smart City Index

(SCI) is obtained for the existing status as well as for the desired level using the simple & lucid mathematical model developed for the purpose. This will help to understand the present status of the infrastructure as well as to propose developments to reach a sustainable and smart tag. This will also help to transfer the parameters for the development on to the field.

SCI = Where ‘n' is number of groups that define the overall factors to contribute to Smart City. ‘Wi' is the relative weightage allocated with ith service characteristics. ‘Vei' is the value score for ith service characteristics of the existing situation. ‘Vsi' is the value scores for ith service characteristics.

Step 7 Various measurements must be worked

out for the development in the context of sustainability along with economic implications & various impediments that may arise. All these must be fore- closured with proactive measures under foolproof interventions.

DiscussionsWhile implementing the evaluated

parameters in the field for the development, it is essential that the executors to practice 3 A's, i.e., Accessibility, Assessment continuously & Auditing at each stage of work. In addition to this, transparency in the executed work is essential.

Citizens participation & their progressive co-operation and involvement must be available at all times. Two important issues to be considered during the execution are: Regulation & Control of all activities, starting from quality assurance & quality control. A systematic procedure under the umbrella of ISDO together with BIS must be in place before taking up of any works. Timely availability & proper utilization of finance to execute various works are very important to prevent delays, escalation of cost, arbitration etc,. Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) must be created for smart cities development.

While retrofitting the old cities for the developing as a smart city, special care must be executed during rehabilitation, demolition & implementation of various works. A purely democratic set up for the people, by the people & to the people must be practiced for the successful implementation.

ConclusionDevelopment of strong parameters & their

assessment as well as aggregating to a composite Smart City Index by a simple mathematic modeling will help to classify a city. This SCI is very important before taking up any development & allocation of funds for various activities for the city in the name of developing Kathmandu as a smart city.

Truly HisToric! With a major focus on sustainable and digital solutions, the bauma 2019 has been hailed as a unprecedented success in the history of trade fairs with several records tumbling.

With more than 620,000 visitors from over 200 countries, bauma 2019, and over 3,700 exhibitors from 63 countries,

the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment, broke many records and became a truly historic event. The number of visitors rose by about 40,000 over the previous edition in 2016; and with its unprecedented 614,000 square meters of space, the largest bauma ever held was once again a bauma filled with records.

During the 2019 edition, exhibitors unveiled a huge number of innovations and new products to the trade fair’s global visitors. Zeppelin/Caterpillar, for instance, introduced more than 20 world premieres. Business conducted at the exhibition was correspondingly good. Many exhibitors spoke of a high willingness to invest. The record-setting bauma also had a strong impact on order books as exhibitors generated the highest sales in the history of their participation at the trade fair.

German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier, Bavarian Minister

President Dr. Markus Söder and Messe München CEO Klaus Dittrich opened bauma 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment.

“For the industry, bauma is by far the world’s most important innovation platform and economic engine, something that we clearly saw this year. Particularly in these times of sweeping technological change that is being triggered by digitalization, bauma provides the industry with security and confidence. Thanks to the momentum in demand generated by the fair’s seven days, companies will be able to calmly face economic slowdowns. bauma 2019 highlighted the opportunity and tremendous outlook of the industry as a whole,” stated Klaus Dittrich, Chairman and CEO of Messe München, “With exhibitors from more than 60 countries and visitors from over 200 nations, bauma is an industry platform where technological variety, ingenuity and performance can be demonstrated to an immense international business audience,” commented Franz-Josef Paus, Chairman of the bauma Advisory Council.

For exhibitors, bauma 2019 was a complete success, as occasionally euphoric statements about it showed. Masa Managing Director Frank W. Reschke described it as ‘the most successful bauma of all times.’ Domenic G. Ruccolo, CEO of the Wirtgen Group, rated bauma 2019 as ‘the most successful in the history of the Wirtgen Group.’

Once again, bauma proved itself to be an excellent business platform, many exhibitors noted. Andreas Böhm, a member of the Board of Directors of Liebherr-International AG, said: “We took orders from all parts of the world and made a whole lot of new contacts.” PERI is also “taking many excellent orders home with it,” said Alexander Schwörer, Managing Director for Marketing and Sales. Zeppelin Baumaschinen also “closed a lot of business deals,” said Fred Cordes, Chairman of the Management Board. bauma 2019 was impressive not just because of the internationality of the visitors who journeyed from all parts of the world to Munich. “The quality and quantity of decision makers from our target groups were exceptional,” Martin Herrenknecht said. Gernot Hein, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at ZF Friedrichshafen, said: “The number and quality of professional conversations were very high.” And Riccardo Magni, the President of Magni Telescopic Handlers, had an explanation for the trade fair’s tremendous performance: “The experienced and professional visitors and the careful organization were the foundation of bauma’s success.”

Digitalization, the Megatrend The clear focal point of this year’s bauma was

sustainable and digital solutions. All exhibitors agreed that digitalization is a ‘megatrend’ in the construction machinery industry, said Andreas Klauser, the CEO of Palfinger Sensors and communication interfaces that collect and analyze data have become standard equipment. Overall, machines and vehicles are becoming cleaner, quieter and more efficient. Many now have electric and hybrid drive systems. “Customers’ interest in electric drive systems has never been so high as it was this year,” said Dr. Frank Hiller, Chairman of the Board of Management at Deutz AG. “It was a dominant issue at bauma 2019.” Some of the most interesting innovations were honoured with the bauma Innovation Award on the evening before the trade fair opened.

Digitalization was a major focus of the show as high number of new products from this segment was unveiled. The construction machinery industry has set its sights on unlocking the possibilities of digitalization and standardizing digital solutions. Digital machine management and telematics solutions are clearly on the way to becoming the new standard in the construction industry. At bauma, numerous manufacturers

from a wide range of product segments presented sensors and programs that provide answers to questions such as: Where is the machine located? How many operating hours has it performed? Is it displaying any error codes? When will service or maintenance measures be necessary?

The Waiblingen-based company Stihl showed Smart Connector—a sensor with a nearly 5 cm diameter that is mounted to the machines. It records operating hours and transmits them via the user’s smart phone or tablet to a cloud with central data storage. The geo position can also be transmitted if necessary. The information is then made available for users to analyze. They can thereby precisely coordinate their machine park, optimize their daily work processes and minimize downtimes. The system also notifies users of upcoming machine maintenance.

Manitowoc unveiled a newly developed free app that helps the crane operator interpret the diagnostic codes generated by the on-board control system and displayed in the operator’s cabin. Instead of waiting for specially trained technical personnel with specialized equipment, the crane owner can use the information to begin resolving the problem immediately, which improves operating time.

The app klickcheck from Zeppelin Lab GmbH in Berlin, Germany, is aimed at leasing companies in the building industry. It provides an easy way to collect all documents that are needed for equipment handover and store them in the cloud. The machines are identified through a QR code and examined using individual checklists on the smartphone. Users and lessors can digitally

document damage and defects in pictures and texts. In addition, an overview of the fleet lets lessors immediately see which machines are available, leased or undergoing maintenance.

Digital planning aids have long been part of the repertoire for formwork specialists. But there is always room for improvement. For instance, Planitec, part of the Paschal Group of companies (Steinach, Germany), presented the next version—its twelfth—of its fully automatic planning software Paschal-Plan light. The tool also provides materials scheduling. A new interface enables all relevant geometric and formwork information to be exchanged with BIM-capable programs. Doka also presented a digital system at bauma that helps surveyors and building site teams quickly and precisely set up the wall formwork with self-climbing systems. The DokaXact solution uses measuring sensors that are affixed to defined points on the formwork and communicate wirelessly with a central processing unit. During calculation of the necessary slope of the formwork elements, the current position of the preceding concrete sections is used as a basis. The sensor is accurate to ± 2 mm. Doka has been nominated for the bauma Innovation Award 2019 in the Digital Systems category for this solution.

Liebherr-International AG showcased a complete package of intelligent assistance systems for the XPower large wheel loader. It features a new active person recognition system in the back. It uses sensors to independently differentiate between people and static objects. When people are detected in the hazard zone, the system alerts at greater distance than with walls or pillars. This helps prevent unnecessary warning signals, which reduces stress for the machine operator.

Exhibitor Testimonials “bauma is Caterpillar’s largest enterprise

trade show. Together Caterpillar and our family of brands, along with Zeppelin Cat, have close to 13,000 square meters of exhibit space. We are featuring 64 machines, and 20 are new introductions, which is the highest number of new products Caterpillar has ever introduced at bauma. It’s a pleasure to be here with our customers, colleagues, suppliers and dealers,” stated Ramin Younessi, Group President of the Construction Industries Segment, Caterpillar Inc., USA. Domenic G. “For Komatsu, bauma 2019 was a great success! Thanks to this event, we had the opportunity to confirm our commitment to the German and European markets. We presented our latest innovations, announced future services and created great expectations for our customers. bauma 2019 was a fantastic fair for exhibitors and visitors alike, and certainly for Komatsu,” commented Naser Memic Rendon, Marketing Communications Group Manager, Komatsu Europe, Belgium.

“The Wirtgen Group’s joint trade show appearance with John Deere was a resounding success, the number of visitors to the booth as well as the interest in our company and our innovative products was simply overwhelming. Our participation in this year’s Bauma was the most successful in the history of the Wirtgen Group and was the perfect way to introduce John Deere motor graders to the European market,” stated Ruccolo, CEO, Wirtgen Group. “Ammann celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019. Page 29: construction innovative & informativetimes May 2019.pdfinfrastructure pte. ltd, which owns and operates toll roads in india, has agreed to acquire a stake in ghaziabad-Aligarh expressway

our global customers added value, increase their profitability, and remain their partners for many years to come,” stated Hans-Christian Schneider, CEO, Ammann Group, Switzerland. According to Jonathan Stringham, Vice President of Marketing, Bomag, Germany the bauma 2019 was a tremendous success once again for Bomag! “Our customers came from all parts of the world, and we were able to convince them of our wide range of innovations in the areas of autonomy, alternative drive systems and digitalization. One special highlight was our second-place finish in the bauma Innovation Award that went to our ion-dust shield technology that reduces particulate matter,” he said.

The biggest highlight for our customers at BOMAG was certainly the chance to see the According to Shirley Liang, Brand Manager of LiuGong, China, “bauma is the most important show for the construction industry. You only have to look at the high number of visitors and exhibitors from all parts of the world to see why. The exhibition helps us to strengthen our branding in the European marketplace.” Phil Zhao, Brand Management, Sany Group, China, said,“bauma is the biggest stage for our industry, both in terms of the number of brands represented here and in terms of the technologies and innovations on display. We had more customers and contracts than last time. We are really pleased with this year’s bauma. Our customers came from around the world. I want to thank the bauma team for its support!”

Martin Lehner, CEO, Wacker Neuson Group, Germany had this to say, “Efficiency, digitalization and sustainability were the trend topics at this year’s bauma. With our line of

electric products and our digital services, we are one of the pacesetters in these future-oriented topics. bauma 2019 also devoted much space to electromobility and alternative drive systems. We were really pleased about this focus, and it reinforced our desire to continue moving forward. Customers, partners and interested individuals from all parts of the world sought us out and talked intensely with us about these trends and our new products. When you add it all up, the trade fair was a complete success for the Wacker Neuson Group.”

“bauma is by far the most important exhibition event in the construction industry in terms of size, number of visitors and geographical coverage. Participation from Asians and Americans has increased and the fair has achieved global impact rather than just on the international level. This year’s exhibition is lively and very positive. It shows that the market is extremely active and that there is no sign of recession from the current very positive trend in the market. It is clear that there are still numerous opportunities for development and growth. We are very satisfied with the quality of the visits, our engagement with clients and guests, and that we have the opportunity to strengthen relationships and create new ones,” stated Fausto Carboni, CEO, Bonfiglioli Group, Italy.

For the industry, bauma is by far the world’s most important innovation platform and economic engine, something that we clearly saw this year. Particularly in these times of sweeping technological change that is being triggered by digitalization, bauma provides the industry with security and confidence.

bauma 2019: saFe all round wiTH meKra langmEKra Lang presents new mirror and camera solutions at Bauma 2019

From 8thof April, MEKRA Lang will be presenting current developments in indirect vision systems and peripheral recognition at Bauma 2019 in Munich. In addition to

traditional mirror systems, sophisticated camera monitor solutions, peripheral detection systems and the future of indirect vision – the mirror replacement system DVS – will be presented at stand B5.542.

Robust vision solutionsFrom mirror systems for special open-cast

mining vehicles up to modular vision solutions for construction machinery, MEKRA Lang presents a large selection of specialized mirror and bracket systems. Electrically, manually adjustable or retractable and extendable, robust with a large projection or particularly curved for larger viewing areas: you will find the right solution for your machine at our stand. By combining FEM calculations in development and extensive field tests with the extremely robust construction of the mirror and mounting systems, the absolute reliability of the products is guaranteed even under the most adverse environmental conditions.Visual improvement from camera monitor systems

MEKRA Lang is also expanding its range of camera monitor systems to further improve safety around large machines. The new MEKRA Lang platform camera is based on a high-quality modular system that allows tailor-made solutions to be implemented with just one camera. The compact platform camera can be mounted or integrated at almost all points of a vehicle.

Thanks to its modular design, a wide variety of analog or digital image sensors, image processing and transmission technologies can be combined individually and cost-effectively.

For example, the platform camera is used in the new Surround View module of the Module Mirror 1009: by integrating a camera in an add-on module, a holistic, hybrid vision system is created with a significant extension of the indirect view to the side and front of the vehicle. Combined with the new MEKRA Lang monitors in 7", 10" or 12" sizes, a significant increase in indirect vision and an improvement in ergonomics can be achieved for the operator .

Safety from peripheral detectionMEKRAtronics, a subsidiary of MEKRA Lang,

presents the latest peripheral detection systems in the form of the transverse camera monitor system (Q-KMS) and the new turn assistant AAS. With the Q-KMS, cross-traffic monitoring is made possible with cameras that can be used flexibly. This makes it possible to observe both traffic and pedestrians who are difficult to see in confusing driving situations.

The turn assistant AAS, which was developed jointly with PRECO Electronics, represents a further development of radar peripheral monitoring in the MEKRA Lang portfolio. By adapting object recognition to the driving situation, a large number of accidents in areas around a machine that are only indirectly visible can be prevented. Thanks to its radar technology, the system is independent of environmental conditions and functions even in rain, snow, fog, dust and dirty conditions.

The future of visionWith the Digital VisionSystem (DVS), MEKRA

Lang presented the future of indirect vision at IAA 2018: robust, functional and clear. With the Digital VisionSystem, MEKRA Lang has contributed its many years of expertise in the realization of unique mirror systems and applied it to the design of the digital mirror of the future. With the adapted image processing software of the HDR cameras the software ensures optimal image representation in all driving situations and environmental conditions. The functional safeguarding of the Digital VisionSystem guarantees the driver reliable functionality through self-monitoring of hardware and software.

MEKRA Lang –we set the standard for the next dimension of indirect vision.

endress cHooses FpT indusTrial To power iTs FuTure aT bauma 2019

FPT Industrial is off to a successful start at Bauma 2019 - the International Construction Machinery fair. Endress, one of its partners in the power generation

segment, is showing the N67 200 kW Stage V engine powered by FPT Industrial at its booth (FN825/1 in the outdoor exhibition area).

Endress, based in Germany, has developed and produced power generators for international markets since 1914. Being the leading manufacturer in its sector, it distinguishes itself through its mobile and stationary power generators, energy storage units and lighting pole systems. Endress, part of Prettl Produktions Holding GmbH, a German group of companies, is active in the automotive, energy, electronics, components & systems and strategic build-up industries. Both FPT Industrial and Endress share the same values of developing both products in response to customer needs and tailor-made solutions for all missions. Being at the forefront of innovation and sustainability, FPT Industrial has worked on finding an effective solution to meet the requirements of the new emission regulations without impacting the genset’s layout. This resulted in HI-eSCR2, the Brand’s innovative

after- treatment patented solution, already successfully used in other applications, and also available for the Power Generation segment.

A key focus at the exhibition is the N67 200 kW Stage V engine, fitted with the renowned and patented HI-eSCR2 after-treatment system. It is installed on a genset frame, which has the same dimensions as an unregulated model. In addition to ensuring compliance, the N67 200 kW Stage V provides best-in-class power density, durability and reliability. It also offers easy maintenance and features long oil service intervals (up to 600 hrs). This “fit and forget” maintenance, plus the high fuel efficiency of the engine, significantly reduce the Total Cost of Ownership. As the engine is also EGR-free, no changes were needed to the cooling package.

The N67 200 kW provides best-in-class uptime, and requires very easy installation: the after-treatment pack is a preassembled solution which enables lean application. Moreover, being EGR-free it does not need additional cooling nor maintenance when compared to the Brand’s current Stage IIIA products. Furthermore, it is extremely flexible since it can be installed both horizontally and vertically, front and top engine mounted. This EGR-free system and the Waste Gate turbocharger also positively affect the Total

Cost of Ownership (TCO), providing both high fuel efficiency and low fuel consumption. The HI-eSCR2 not only functions as an emission device, but also as a silencer that further reduces noise when compared to current Stage IIIA FPT Industrial products. As for emissions, the Stage V legislation, which became mandatory at the beginning of 2019, requires a NOx reduction of 90% and a PM decrease of 93%, enhanced by the introduction of a Particulate Number limit. This technology is delivering these reductions. Its reliability is proven by FPT Industrial’s over 25 years of experience in SCR solution development and over one million units sold. Furthermore, FPT Industrial's Stage V solution is switchable: it can be used in compliance with both Tier 4 Final emission regulations and Stage V. The collaboration with FPT Industrial provides Endress with the possibility to supply clients in all markets, both regulated and unregulated, and paves the way for growth in Latin America.

The race to electrification spans nearly every type of commercial vehicle, including off-highway. Recognizing this, and armed with 100 years of

technology and manufacturing experience, AxleTech launched its new AFE Series e-axle, a line of electric powertrain systems for off-highway and specialty applications, at bauma in Munich. The AFE Series electric e-axle features a new modular eCarrier system and integrates interchangeable water/glycol cooled motors and a single-speed, 2-speed or 4-speed gearbox into a system that fits existing vehicle configurations and displaces the traditional powertrain.

“The commercial vehicle industry is becoming electric faster than any other, and AxleTech is proud to lead the electrification of powertrains with this off-highway and specialty vehicle series solution,” said Bill Gryzenia, CEO, AxleTech. “The AFE Series e-axle is designed to withstand the heavy loads, extreme demands, and potential rough terrains that vehicles such as rail car movers, lift trucks, terminal tractors, and dump trucks encounter. This is the first of several electric powertrain solutions we are launching for the commercial vehicle industry.”

The AxleTech AFE e-axle system is compatible with full battery electric vehicles, fuel cell range extender electric vehicles, internal combustion engines or turbine generator range extenders. It has motor continuous power of 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts) and peak motor power of 389 horsepower (290 kilowatts). The AFE e-axles also are engineered to handle 100 percent regenerative braking.

The system’s high torque with manageable power is aided by AxleTech’s new modular

eCarrier system, which provides high efficiency by using the electric motors at their optimal operating level. The new eCarrier system replaces the existing conventional carrier on many AxleTech axle models, including the 120, 145, 160, and 180 Series as well as traditional, industry-standard carriers. The AFE e-axles are designed to fit existing vehicle configurations for easy installation and are retrofittable on all makes and models of axles.

At the ACT Expo April 23-26 in Long Beach, California, AxleTech plans to introduce additional electric vehicle product breakthroughs including one of the most efficient electric powertrains for Class 6 through 8 trucks, as well as the most compact and powerful electric powertrain system for low-floor bus applications. Rulmeca Germany presents its completely renewed TM400 motorized pulley generation at Bauma. Thanks to optimized components, the new motorized pulleys

with a diameter of 400 millimeters are significantly more energy-efficient and service-friendly while offering even greater robustness and therefore plant uptime. Designed for the transport of bulk materials, the new motorized pulleys suit applications across many sectors - from light-duty belt conveyor systems in recycling, such as conveyors passing under magnetic separators; to medium-duty conveyor belts for mobile and stationary crushers, screeners and conveyors in the asphalt, cement and concrete industries as well as salt, sand and gravel works; to bulk material conveyors for the transport of grain and fertilizers.

The energy efficiency of the new TM400 motorized pulley generation, rated at 2.2 to 15.0 kW, has been increased by an average of 4.5% under peak loads thanks to more efficient electric motors with higher performance. Depending on the operating conditions, the resulting energy savings range from an impressive 12% to as little as 1%. When using the 15.0 kW class and working in two shifts with 90% utilization of nominal power, the average operating cost savings add up to EUR 467 per year, based on a comparatively cheap kilowatt-hour (kWh) rate of EUR 0.20. The eco footprint also improves substantially as CO2 output is reduced by 1.2 tons when using a conventional power mix.

In order to make the already highly reliable continuous operation of the bulk material handling systems even more fail-safe, the housing for the transmission components was optimized again, which increased the already high mean time between failure (MTBF) of the new Rulmeca TM400 motorized pulleys even further.

Thanks to greater component standardization, the new Rulmeca TM400 motorized pulleys have also become more service-friendly. Local service providers can now replace defective motor windings themselves, which minimizes downtime

while making the global service network even more powerful and responsive. Rulmeca provides the required technical documentation and repair manuals upon request.

The new TM400 motorized pulleys also impress with a space-saving design where the drive is integrated into the conveyor tail drum. This is ideal for the harsh bulk handling environment as motorized pulleys are hermetically sealed, IP66/67 protected systems that keep the oil for lubrication and cooling in the engine, and abrasives such as debris and other wear-inducing materials out of the system. The TM400 motorized pulleys are therefore suitable for even the most challenging operating conditions and can be used in all common bulk material handling systems. They are easy and quick to install and virtually maintenance free.

COMANSA ANNOuNCeS upCOMiNg lArge FlAt-tOp tOwer CrANe iN BAuMAalso to come is the optional Quick Set, an electronic limitation system to drastically reduce the set-up time of all the Flat-Top range

Manufacturer COMANSA announced during the Bauma trade show in Munich the upcoming addition of another model to its wide range of

large Flat-Top tower cranes. The new 21LC1400 will be available worldwide from September 2019 and will come in two versions, with maximum load capacity of 50 or 66 tonnes (110,230 or 145,500 lb). The main expected application of the 21LC1400 is to work in PPVC and infrastructure projects, but this new model will also provide the best performance in any other site in which it is necessary to lift very heavy loads.

Like COMANSA’s most recent large models, the 21LC1400 will feature a modular design of the counterjib to highly reduce the counter-radius in constrained jobsites. A new single and compact trolley has also been designed for the 21LC1400 instead of COMANSA’s double trolley system, standard in other models, as this new crane will work mainly in projects in which the maximum load capacity is needed in almost every lift, like PPVC.

Also announced in Bauma was the upcoming Quick Set, an electronic limitation system that will reduce the set-up time of the cranes from 3 hours to 45 minutes, and will also reduce the number of staff during such operation. The new Quick Set will be available as an option in

all flat-top models of the LC range and will be an important benefit for rental companies who have to dismantle their cranes and move them to another jobsite very often.

COMANSA will unveil more details about both novelties in the following months.

At Bauma, COMANSA displayed the 50 tonne (110,230 lb) Flat-Top model 21LC1050, which was the largest hammerhead crane at the Munich show. This crane has a maximum radius of 80 metres (262.4 ft) with optional radius of 85 and 90 metres (278.8 or 295.2 ft), and was designed mainly for large industrial, infrastructure and PPVC projects, among others. The exhibited crane has been sold with full jib and mast configuration to rental company and Bauma co-exhibitor BKL Baukran Logistik, who will supply it to an upcoming modular construction jobsite of German contractor Klebl in Berlin.

Also displayed for the first time in Bauma was COMANSA’s Cube cab, which was at ground level for all visitors to see its fully glazed front, spacious design and all comfort features for the crane operator.

Bauma 2019 was another successful tradeshow for COMANSA as many customers, dealers and potential clients attended the manufacturer’s booth for enquiries and technical meetings.

wirtgeN grOup BOOth At BAuMA 2019 DrAwS reCOrD NuMBer OF ViSitOrSa total of 120 exhibits, including 18 world premieres and 25 innovations as well as six interactive technology demos: the Wirtgen group’s booth at bauma was packed with leading machine and application technologies from Wirtgen, vögele, Hamm, Kleemann, benninghoven, and John Deere.

The trade show in Munich clearly demonstrated that the complementary product ranges of the Wirtgen Group and John Deere are a perfect fit. Visitors

were not only impressed by the numerous possible applications resulting from the synergies between the products, but also by the two companies’ unified presence, which underscored their common bond and their intention to continue to grow together in the future.

The 622GP motor grader, which John Deere is launching on the European market together with the 672GP, was met with great interest. The Wirtgen Group’s sales and service network in Germany and France is handling the sale of these products – a prime example of how customers can already benefit from premium products and services from a single source, which perfectly fits the “SmartSynergies and Innovations” theme of the group’s presence at Bauma this year. SmartSynergies refers to how the specialized product brands Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm, Kleemann, and Benninghoven offer unparalleled solutions for every road construction application

that complement each other perfectly – and are further enhanced by the synergies created as a result of the Wirtgen Group being part of John Deere.

World Premieres and Innovations as Far as the Eye Could See

With its 18 world premieres and 25 innovations, the group also underscored its position as the innovation driver and technology leader in the road construction sector. In addition to the six technology demos, visitors were clearly interested in the new machines. As a result, the rush to view the new products – such as the intelligent Wirtgen W 210 Fi cold milling machine with Mill Assist, the impressive Vögele SUPER 3000-3(i) large paver with 18 m screed, the new Hamm HP series of pneumatic tired rollers, the rugged Kleemann MOBICAT MC 120 Z PRO jaw crusher for demanding mining operations, the environmentally friendly Benninghoven TBA asphalt mixing plant with hot gas generator, and, of course, the entire range of John Deere construction equipment – did not let up during the entire event.

SChwiNg-Stetter DrAwS pOSitiVe CONCluSiON FrOM BAuMA 2019Customer visits and international guests confirm the chosen path with many innovations

SCHWING-Stetter's participation in the world's leading trade fair for construction machinery, which ended on Sunday evening, was a complete success. This

is measured partly in sales figures, but equally clearly in the consistently positive feedback on the products from numerous customers and guests as well as drivers and machine operators.

Herne / Munich, April 16, 2019. When the traditional "honking" sounded through the participants' vehicles on Sunday afternoon at 4.15 p.m., a successful bauma trade fair also ended for SCHWING-Stetter. For one week, the corporate group from Herne/Germany presented itself at its 2,100 m² trade fair stand, which was the meeting point for many

customer visits and sales talks and also served to present the company to the outside world.

"We are very satisfied with bauma 2019. In the direct discussions with our customers and interested parties, we again received very good feedback on our numerous new products. But also the revised design of our exhibition stand in many details attracted the positive attention of the visitors", Jost Amersdorffer summarizes his impressions. "A trade fair like bauma is not just a showroom for us. As an echo chamber, it offers us the opportunity every three years to talk to our customers from all over the world, expand our network and discuss ideas in a concentrated and relaxed atmosphere". Of course, SCHWING will not come back this year with empty pages

Page 55: construction innovative & informativetimes May 2019.pdfinfrastructure pte. ltd, which owns and operates toll roads in india, has agreed to acquire a stake in ghaziabad-Aligarh expressway

in its order books. "The fact that we also sell products here, many of them are innovations, is in the nature of the trade fair. But bauma is more than just a sales event. It is the industry event, a seismograph for trends and customer wishes," stresses Jost Amersdorffer. SCHWING and Stetter were convincing with a large number of new products. Of the 16 exhibits on display, eight were innovations or fundamentally revised machines. SCHWING presented the newly developed S 47 SX III from its wide range of truck-mounted concrete pumps, for which numerous orders had already been received at the trade fair. Orders were also received for the flagship, the impressive S 65 SXF, which was also on display. The machine, which weighs around 63 tons, was a popular photo subject and was used by numerous groups of visitors as a background for photos. The S 36 X DirectDrive, which with its two DirectDrive motors at the boom can be used more flexibly than any other machine in its class, attracted a great deal of attention. Thanks to the DirectDrive hydraulic motor developed by SCHWING, the last boom element can be rotated 360° endlessly.

Stetter presented the 111,000th truck-mixer with a design to match the anniversary.

The Memmingen-based manufacturer of truck-mixers and batching plants with the AM 10 EDrive truck-mixer showed that hybrid technology has long since arrived in the world of construction machinery. During loading and unloading, its mixing drum can be driven either by the vehicle's diesel engine or emission-free by a battery-operated electric motor. The emission load on the construction site and at the batching plant is significantly reduced. Another advantage: Maintenance work during which the drum has to rotate can be carried out in workshops and halls without the emission of pollutants. A further product innovation is the mobile batching plant M 3.0, which can be set up ready for operation within only 3 days. The batching plant, which can produce up to 135 m³ of fresh concrete per hour, will first be installed in Gelsenkirchen/Germany. After completion of the concreting work, the plant will be moved to southern Germany.

This year for the first time a shop with merchandising products was opened. The vehicle models on offer, shirts with the SCHWING-Stetter logo, caps and softshell jackets, some with individual embroidery, were very well received.

Stetter patent infringed - competitor must remove vehicles

SCHWING-Stetter reacted with an injunction to the infringement of one of its patents for truck-mixers by a manufacturer from other European countries. By way of an injunction and transfer by a bailiff, the competitor was prohibited from continuing to exhibit the technology from the patent in its products at the current bauma 2019. The order included, among other things, an order to remove the relevant vehicle component and all vehicles in which it was installed from the exhibition stand by the evening. In addition, it was ordered not to advertise the product in this form throughout Germany or sell it to third parties with immediate effect. The competitor concerned has essentially not complied with the order within the time window set, so that SCHWING-Stetter is now clarifying the matter by way of legal action.

Records and superlativesFor the organizers, bauma 2019 was the

expected event of superlatives. 620,000 visitors from more than 200 countries visited bauma 2019 on the seven opening days, including many international visitors. With 3,700 exhibitors and 614,000 m² of exhibition space, the largest bauma of all time was once again a bauma of records.

The next bauma will take place from 4 to 10 April 2022 on the Munich exhibition grounds. For SCHWING-Stetter, preparations for the next exhibition in three years have already begun on Monday morning.

Allu AND MApei Are ANNOuNCiNg their COOperAtiON withiN CONCrete reCyCliNgaLLu Mapei circulus* is a solution to transform returned concrete into a high-quality recycled aggregate. The immensely mobile and industrially efficient method has a strong impact on the environment and business.

ALLU and MAPEI are both world class leading companies in their respective fields with global distribution networks. Through the cooperation customers

will have access to the highest level of knowledge within concrete recycling.

The ALLU MAPEI Circulus system is aimed at large and medium sized RMC producers or cement/concrete recycling companies who wish to reduce the cost of handling returned concrete waste. Besides the positive environmental effects, through less new material needed, the system will generate substantial savings in production. Savings of up to tens of Euro’s per cubic meter of concrete produced are achievable through savings towards landfill cost and reduced costs for virgin aggregate.

The system is simple and requires minimal investments: the MAPEI Re-con Zero- chemical and an ALLU Transformer. With Re-Con Zero the wet returned concrete is transformed into a dry granulate. The ALLU Transformer then processes the hardened lumps and screens them into the specified aggregate size to be recycled with fresh concrete. A concrete manufacturer

may then use between 5% and 30% of the recycled aggregate with new concrete. This will bring significant savings to the cost of buying virgin aggregate. The system also greatly reduces the amount of washed out sludge from concrete trucks. Waste sludge is an environmental challenge as it must go to a landfill and is therefore an additional cost for concrete producers.

The ALLU MAPEI Circulus system assists the concrete industry towards sustainability in concrete manufacturing. The global consumption of concrete is a staggering 23 Billion tons per year, and it is estimated that approximately 2% of all concrete produced in the world is returned to the producer. The majority of this ends up on a landfill. An estimated five (5%) percent of all man-made carbon dioxide emissions stem from cement and concrete production. Two (2%) percent of produced and returned concrete adds up to 460 million tons being unnecessarily put on landfills, resulting in a staggering total of 53 million tons of carbon dioxide being emitted. With the ALLU MAPEI Circulus, there is an opportunity to save up to 96% on the above-mentioned CO2 emissions.

p M KNOwSDeliVeriNg perFOrMANCeputzmeister celebrates the delivery of its 5,000th Stationary concrete pump

Putzmeister India recently rolled out the 5,000th Stationary Concrete Pump from its factory in Verna, Goa. Established in 2007, Putzmeister offers customers

in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives concreting, shortcreting, mortar and industrial solutions. In a little over 10 years, the company has established itself as the leader in theconcrete pumpcategory.

Putzmeister Stationary Concrete Pumps are world renowned for their vertical and horizontal pumping capability. These pumps have not only set, but also broken their own world records on a regular basis. The Guinness World Record for the tallest vertical pumping of 606 set by Putzmeister at Burj Khalifa remains unbeaten.

When concrete is pumped upwards, many tons of weight build up in the pipelines. With every kilogram, the pressure on the connections between the pump and the line increases. Back in the 1960s and 1970s, 180 meters was the vertical pumping limit. Putzmeister worked through these years to find a solution and break past the challenges. In 1976, Putzmeister’s automatic sealing ring

solved the problem: the higher the pressure in the delivery line, the better the right seals it. In addition, the ring ensured watertightpipes, so that concrete could continue to flow smoothly even at heights of several hundred meters. Now an industry standard, the automatic sealing ring continues to be developed by Putzmeister to help our customers scale new heights.

The automatic sealing right passed the practical test during the construction of the television tower in Frankfurt in 1977, concrete was pumped successfully to a height of 310 meters.

Putzmeister’s team of experts can help you achieve the distance you need – every time.

Putzmeister’s concrete pumps are known for their reliability, robustness, ease of operation and maintenance, and long service life. The pumps are manufactured with fewer components as compared to other OEMs, this results in lower costs when service is required.

MB CruSher eDuCAteS CuStOMerS with uSer AMAteur ViDeOS Whether small or large, the Mb crusher range solved the issues of accessing and moving machinery into isolated or inaccessible areas such as islands.

In recent years MB Crusher has let the experience of the customers themselves help make users aware of the potential of their machines. How? By watching the machines in

action in amateur videos, created by the users themselves including the customers’ own reviews and pictures.

“Even more interesting - explains Diego Azzolin, Director of MB Crusher production - is that we can learn some useful things from this. Often the most valuable ideas emerge when you discover the potential of a machine, maybe within a totally different context from your own, but one that has similar requirements. Exchanging information allows you to make better decisions and this step towards enables you to increase the efficiency as well as the productivity of the site. It is sometimes the case that our customers, by using our machinery in a way that I would define as ‘inspired’, suggest wider applications for our machinery.

The “impossible” situations which we were able to learn from on the island of Rab in Croatia.

Here, the main challenge was the prohibitive cost of the quarry material, required for the creation of roadbeds for the access roads to the construction site, in this case relating to land excavation for building a number of houses. We

found the solution during the excavation work: the rubble itself turned out to be of value when we used the compact crusher buckets of the MB Crusher range, mounted on one of the backhoe loaders (JCB 4CX) of their fleet. This was an instant success: the construction site, without any outside help and making substantial savings, crushed the material directly on site, using a single earth-moving machine, thereby eliminating transportation and disposal costs. The crusher bucket used was the MB-L200: compact in size, it is one of the most reasonably priced and easily manoeuvrable of the MB Crusher range. The crusher is completely compatible with mini-loaders of up to 6 tonnes and with backhoe loaders and loaders of between 7 and 10 tonnes.

Our second example takes us to the Mayotte Islands, Comoros archipelago, in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Here the obvious challenge was gaining access, not only to the islands but to the basalt rock quarries, from which the rubble is used to create road embankments. In this context, large machinery is of no use, as its weight and size is a drawback. The best solution turned out to be using a very powerful and easily manoeuvrable crusher: The MB Crusher BF135.8. Despite being one of the largest models in the range, it has a compact design. From a technical point of view it is easy to operate and transport, without the need for special vehicles. With an output

of 88 cubic metres per hour, and a capacity of around 1.60 cubic metres its performance was an instant success, as demonstrated in the video produced by the site managers.

Our quest for innovative solutions leads us to Cayeux-sur-Mer, a unique industrial centre in France. The silica pebbles along this stretch of the coast of the English Channel happen to be the purest in the world (99% pure silica). The requirement was to avoid the cost of transporting the materials from the beach, which would otherwise have to be separated, classified, loaded and dispatched. A particularly dynamic and innovative company found the solution by using a single machine: the MB Crusher screening bucket picks up the pebbles, separates them removing the sand, and selects the material according to size. All this takes place on the beach itself. All the screening buckets in the MB Crusher range have been designed to process the raw materials in quarries and construction sites as they are equipped with baskets comprising interchangeable panels with different-sized holes depending on the requirements. In the example of Cayeux-sur-Mer, the MB-LS220, clearly visible in the video and mounted on a Caterpillar 962M wheel loader, was perfect: it is large and powerful and by pre-screening it succeeded in reducing the crushing time by up to 60%.

Now let's go to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, two mountainous islands in the Atlantic Ocean, to the South of Terranova in Canada. In order to build a number of main roads it was necessary to remove a large area of rocks to cut through the mountain. Here the challenge was the limited amount of space to work in as well as the cost of transporting and processing the materials. Having seen the capabilities of the MB Crushers

screening buckets in action, the company decided to process the granite rock from the extraction heap in situ, in order to separate it from the damp soil and use it directly for roadbeds. The bucket used successfully was the MB Crusher MB-S18 screening bucket: specially designed to be used for separating substantial quantities, especially on large sites dealing with high volumes, it guarantees a high level of performance. Equipped with a 50 grid and mounted, as seen in the video, on a Caterpillar 330 excavator, it has led to substantial reductions in both time and cost, producing an enormous volume of screened material that is ready to be used.

“Being a company that sells its own products all over the world means that MB Crusher - concludes Diego Azzolin - has an excellent overview of the challenges and solutions, productivity and costs, obstacles and innovations of the overall work involved in roadworks, earth-moving operations, quarries and mines, construction work, reclamation work, recycling, environmental restorations. We have a global reputation for innovative products such as our crushers and screening buckets, which, as they are so easy to manoeuvre and use, can be used in any location, turning costs into profits and obstacles into opportunities. Whether big or small, MB Crusher machines have proved to be the best and most cost-effective choice including in the most challenging locations, such as islands. We are also very pleased that we have been able to work in such close partnership with our customers to help them select the most suitable machinery, also through our willingness to share our experiences and ideas with the whole industry. On all the roads of the world.”

Faresin Industries presents highly technological models to complete and upgrade its construction product range (Small range, Compact range, Middle

range, Heavy Duty range, Big range), meeting manufacturers’ handling needs.

The models start at a height of 6 meters to reach 17 meters with maximum load capacity from 2.6 up to 7.0 tons; the ones presented at the fair will be: • 6.26 Classic 52 (Small Range) • 8.40 VPSe 100 (Middle Range) • 9.60 HLS 74 (Heavy Duty Range) • 14.42 Classic 75 (Big Range) • 17.40 Classic 55 (Big Range)

Each model can be set up in different configurations that differ in performance and options. The continuous improvement of the machines offered by Faresin Industries is based on customers’ feedback, collected and stored internally by the R&D department.

E-telehandler: an electrifying futureAs an absolute world premiere for

the construction sector, Faresin Industries presents the first Fully Electric telescopic handler that promises to put an end to the

words ‘emissions’ and ‘noise’, opening the field to a new range of uses, interpreting the technological change that is revolutionizing mobility as we have known it until today.

After years of research, the Faresin Industries R&D Centre has developed this innovative machine on the same chassis of the telescopic handler 6.26.

By eliminating emissions and significantly reducing the noise level, it will improve the comfort of use indoors, in historical centres, and in densely populated areas, and it will bring safety to the highest level, allowing it to be used even during activities or times where the noise of endothermic engines is today a limiting factor.

6.26 Classic 52, improved visibilityThe 6.26 Classic 52 telescopic handler,

a model of the Small Range, now has a newly designed engine bonnet that better dissipates the heat generated by the engine and, most importantly, improves the visibility of blind spots for the operator.

An ABS enclosure has been developed, a very resistant plastic material that has led to an increase of the strength of the bonnet and an improvement of the closing handle.

8.40 VPSe 100: saving time and consumption

For the 8.40 VPSe 100 telehandler, a model of the Middle Range, the Faresin Industries R&D Centre has focused on an increase in work performance, with significant savings in time and consumption, thanks to a better utilization of hydraulic power. • The new Load Sensing circuit of 180

litres/min at 250 bar guarantees top-level performance in boom movements, allowing the users to manage multiple activities simultaneously without losing fluidity and without increasing consumption.

• Thanks to the Ecofast valve that recovers the power of the hydraulic oil, the return movements of the boom have been made less demanding for the engine, thus allowing it to offer greater performance for other activities like handling, lifting, etc.

• The engine has been upgraded and it now complies with the Stage IV / Tier 4 Final emission regulation. It is a turbocharged 4-cylinder Deutz AG, TCD 3.6 series with 100 kW of power.

• Transmission efficiency has been increased, thanks to the latest generation of electronic control, more precise and efficient, reaching 40 km/h. High transport performance and greater flexibility of use of the machine together with lower consumption.

9.60 HLS 74: upgraded power unitThe 9.60 HLS 74 handler of the Heavy Duty

Range series, a machine designed for intensive use, has been upgraded: • to comply with the emission regulations, by

introducing the new Deutz AG TCD 3.6 series with 74.4 kW of power, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with low consumption levels;

• to facilitate manoeuvrability, by introducing an electronically controlled hydrostatic transmission with four different driving modes, 4-wheel drive, 4-wheel steering system, and 3 steering modes;

• to facilitate an intensive use, the hydraulic circuit has been equipped with a Load Sensing pump of 152 L/min at 250 bar.

14.42 Classic 74 and 17.40 Classic 55: hydrostatic transmission for better manoeuvrability

The Big Range series boasts models capable of reaching a maximum height of 17 meters and a load capacity of up to 4.5 tons.

This model, like the one presented at the fair, the 17.40, can be equipped with 55.4 kW Deutz Stage IIIB engines, which guarantee reduced consumption, high performance, and easy maintenance, thanks to the longitudinal

arrangement and the absence of AdBlue for the exhaust gas post-treatment system. In cases where greater power is required, you can opt for the 74.4 kW Stage_IV models.

The Bosch Rexroth hydrostatic transmission makes the use and performance of the machine even easier, both in precision work and in heavy work, such as the use of the bucket, for which the standard loader mode has been introduced.

The standard equipment includes front stabilizers, side levelling, and the Queen Cab, which increases visibility and comfort for the operator. Options include rear axle locking.

Faresin Industries, a family-owned Italian industrial company, designs, builds, and sells trailed, self-propelled, stationary mixer wagons for animal husbandry and telescopic handlers for agriculture and construction. ammann soil CompaCtor modEl : ars121

Ammann ARS 121 Soil Compactors are bringing efficiency to an enormous, high-profile roadbuilding project in India.

The compactors are handling soil work for a key section of the 354-km

Purvanchal Expressway, the longest current road construction project in India. The soil work is being completed by Ms. Regal Enterprises, a subcontractor of Ms. G.R. Infra.

Operators of the ARS 121 praised the machine’s comfort, which helped them remain productive throughout long shifts. They also endorsed the vibratory system and compaction output of the ARS 121, which enabled the crew to achieve goals in fewer passes.

The operators said they have worked with competitive machines and found the ARS to be more fuel-efficient, possess better compaction effectiveness and be easier to control. In addition, they said it required virtually no maintenance.

Once completed, the Purvanchal Expressway will provide easy access to the national capital of New Delhi via the 302-km Lucknow-Agra Expressway and the 165-km Agra-Greater Noida Yamuna Expressway. In addition, the Purvanchal Expressway will provide uninterrupted connectivity to nine districts: Lucknow, Ghazipur, Amethi, Azamgarh, Faizabad, Barabanki, Mau, Ambedkar Nagar and Sultanpur.

How do you assess the current overall CE growth scenario?

It is a well established fact across our industry that the past five years have witnessed some fabulous growth along all five segments of construction equipment Industry. The sales have grown by about 250% between 2014 to 2019. From approx. 44,000 units to 110,000 units. This is the best ever growth in a 5-year span. Value wise the growth is much higher as the sales of big ticket equipment have gone up.

Do you expect any slow down in the market due to General Election?

Elections have dampened the sentiment a little but much will depend on the outcome of the results. If the current dispensation gets a second go,the momentum will surely continue.Right now it is anybody’s guess.

How has been the performance of Macons in 2018-19, and how did you close this fiscal?

Macons performed exceedingly well during this period by posting a growth of 25% over the past year which was much higher than the industry growth. This included the sales of newly launched Truck Mounted Aerial Work Platforms also the initial response to which has been much better than expected. The higher capacity plants contributed a fair proportion establishing the acceptance of theproducts in the market.

Tell us something about the major changes that have been undertaken at MACONS?

We at MACONS have made a strategic shift in go to market approach wherein the distribution network is being recast through business partnership with some well established business enterprises in respective states.

The biggest tie up has been MACONS-TVS partnership for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala & Puducherry to start with. We may add some more areas in near future. The partnership agreement was signed at the Corporate of MACONS in Ahmedabad on 10th March’ 19. The Chairman of MACONS, Dharmesh Surelia was present on the occasion when the agreement was signed by the Senior President of TVS, P Nachimuthu & Sr Vice President of MACONS, Rajinder Raina.

New dealershipsare in place for the states of Punjab, H.P, J&K, U.P & Gujarat. The new dealership of Jabalpur belt is operational as well. A few more dealerships will be added during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. With these additions MACONS will get the foot print pan India that gives 3S proximity to its existing & potential users/buyers. Each new network partner has multiple outlets which are strategically located from customer/business perspective.

What is the future of Construction and infrastructure Sector?

Looking at the current scenario, infrastructure sector in India is poised for sustained growth for the next five to ten years. There will be dull/slow quarters here & there but a CAGR of more than 10 to 12% growth looks highly possible. These percentages within the industry may vary but the overall growth of the industry is on.

New equipment & technology/customization through application specific attachments is finding acceptance which is an indication of maturing of markets.Indian equipment market today is at par with the contemporary technology in the world is good news for manufacturers who believe in technology & quality. Indian equipment market is taking shape & character where there is enough room for different technologies & the manufacturers will have to strategically position their products.

We shall remain a price sensitive market & also use equipment over a longer period therefore the importance of after sales care will remain paramount. With almost all the Global players present in the market, after sales support will be a big differentiator & the customer will be spoilt for choice. As a manufacturer we shall have to pull up our socks right from the plant/product level to the market place to keep posting positive growth.

Dharmesh Surelia, CMD,Macons & Rajinder Raina, Sr VP Macons with P. Nachimuthu, Sr President & T Mohanraj, Business Head, TVS, inked the deal at Ahemedabad on 11th April'19.

We export to over 100 countries from india

Can you give current scenario of growth trends of the industry?

2015 we bottomed out as an industry and after 2015 then there was this huge focus on roads and highways and infra and that took the industry up in 2016. 2016, 2017, 2018 all three years were years of good growth. I am talking of calendar years. So, 2018 also was a very strong year. In fact it was the best year ever for our industry.

Crossed 1 lakh units.Yes. So it is commendable that the industry

really took off. If you remember 2017 was a year of disruptions so you had the emission issues in first half and GST in second half and that led to some disruption and there was a lot of pent up demand. So that pent up demand took off and 2017 last quarter to 2018 the entire year it made quite strong also and resulted in 2018 was the best year for us and also for the industry.

Your sixth factory is on the roll now, what do you think the recent trends in the manufacturing sector?

The new factories that we have announced in Gujarat which is going to be in Vadodara and of course we see future and we will see opportunity in India and that is why we have committed an investment of 650 crores for the new factory in Vadodara. In terms of manufacturing trends even the manufacturing industry is not getting quite high tech. So people are preparing for the industry and that is the whole scenario. Most plants are now modern. Talking about JCB I do not know if you have been to our Dhalabgarh[?] factory it is the largest factory for backhoe loaders. It is a fully automated factory, you see backhoes getting rolled off. That sort of thing is there. Similarly Jaipur is a zero discharge facility and all world class export worthy factory is there and so the whole thing of Indian manufacturing

JCB India Limited is a leading manufacturer of earthmoving and construction equipment in India. The company was started in 1979 in India. With five state-of-the-art factories in India, it today manufactures a wide range of world-class equipment, not only for India, but also for global markets. gathering steam is now taking place. There was a time when people were not very sure of what Indian manufacturing is all about. Now as things are improving...we export to 100 countries from India. So those things are there and one global quality is now an achievable phenomena and we have done that. Made in India machines are very proudly exported even to developed markets from India. So the trends are all positive, they are all towards achieving one global quality. The trends are towards improving efficiencies of factories. Safety again is a very big talk point. If you were to visit JCB factories you will see there is a massive focus on safety. So people working in the factory and people visiting the factory we feel they should be perfectly safe at all times and I think again after one global quality the next thing is one global health and safety standard wherein sometimes we see unfortunately some people take shortcuts but we take it very seriously here at JCB. There is a huge focus on health and safety.

If you tell about the manufacturing philosophy or production principle, how do you put it especially JCBs philosophy?

We have a JCB philosophy and that philosophy by and large is towards one production of waste, two, improvement of efficiency, it is called JCB production system. We talk about it and that is the footprint on which all JCB factories are made and operated across the world. So health and safety again is the platform on which everything else is built on. And we talk of one global quality which means all our systems, all our processes have to be of global standard.

Throughout the globe?Yes so you will see all JCB factories operating

on a single philosophy of quality. So there is nothing like you have X quality for one country and Y quality for some other country. Very importantly as I said our supply chain also is calibrated accordingly because lot of the things which go into making a machine are brought somewhere and while we can have the best quality but what if our vendors do not have the best quality. Therefore that is percolated down to the last level. In fact when we choose a vendor the vendor is not just for India that person is open to sell anywhere in the world into any of our factories across the world. Of course the product design itself and the way it is manufactured then all of it then comes together.

Someone will name is Lean Philosophy or someone will say something else. Like that how will you talk about your system?

The system as I said is called the JCB Infra System.

Can you give me 2-3 major unique characteristics of that?

One as I said we were on lean manufacturing philosophy and of course we are IT enabled. So Lean is that there is constant pursuit of elimination of waste. The other thing is we work on a no fault forward policy. So that means that when we are assembling something like our engine factories when we are assembling something and hypothetically speaking something has not been tightened properly the line itself will not move

JCB InTERvIEW

Page 84: construction innovative & informativetimes May 2019.pdfinfrastructure pte. ltd, which owns and operates toll roads in india, has agreed to acquire a stake in ghaziabad-Aligarh expressway

forward, it will keep giving you an alarm. There cannot be a situation where you are carrying a fault forward. Somebody else has left a nut loose and someone else is supposed to do it, that doesn’t happen. Whatever fault is there it is corrected at that stage itself, it doesn’t go forward.

JCB right from the beginning in India and sixth factory is going to come, how do you see the transition from legacy systems to current system? How smooth is the transition and what are the challenges?

We have been here for 40 years, we came to India in 1979 and it has been a very interesting journey for us. As you rightly said manufacturing systems 40 years ago were totally different from what they are now. the transition that we had to make as accompany that journey has been very steep and 2005-06 onwards when the market started to increase we wanted to start exporting as well and that is how all transition of training, of skilling, of investing in technology, investing in capital, all of that went into the organisation of factories and keeping it with time. And that is how now all these factories which you see in India are absolutely at par of any factory of JCB anywhere else in the world. Training of people has played a very important part. Changing of the thought process and being accountable for what they are doing and ensuring what they make and do there is pride in that. If there is no pride in what you are doing then you are not bothered. At the end of the day we all work for pride and money as well. But the fact that we are working for pride and once we are able to get that in the picture then everyone is responsible and accountable.

You have been to our factories and we do not have thousands of people, we have 5000 people in India but again we are lead something in that.

How do you look at the industry 4.0 concepts, is it implemented in the Indian space overall?

Not in its entirety because industry 4.0 is a very large vision and we are only just now kind of starting to move towards that vision. Industry 4.0 I would not say it is a target, it is a journey and I think it is going to be a long journey for all of us. It talks of integrating everything, the entire environment in the way factories operate, or suppliers operate or dealers operate all of them to come under sort of a vision and one sort of a philosophy where everything is interconnected. And it cannot be done overnight. It will take time but very encouragingly people have started talking about it, people have started taking steps towards it and it is a good way forward. Having achieved it I do not think we have achieved it as of now. But of course we are on the line.

Can you give us details on how IT enabled or the data analytics is one of the strong points for JCB?

In terms of IT enabled now I think all large scale organisations everything works on IT enabled environment, ERP systems is done by SAPs. Now that means that there is full transparency of every process, every product, and everything goes back to where we got it from and what is being sold and where is it going. On dealer end also we have got SAP which means we are integrated from supplier to the factory to the dealer and all is done through IT. On the

product side that is again integrated through live link, so that means we can actually trace back from where the component has come, when was the machine made, when was it given to the dealer, when was it sold, what is the machine doing now. So entire chain is enabled. All is done through IT. I think it is there in most modern factories where IT plays a huge role.

JCB has been a pioneer in using digital platform into the tracking system and product system. So how do you look at the growth forward and what are kinds of things you are doing on that?

We introduced live link in 2014-15 and now I think we have got more than 1 lakh machines which are being monitored on live link.

Two years back you said 35 and now it is more than double the growth.

We have been doing the growth figures, so I do not know two years ago could not have been 35.

You said 34000 connected machines to live link.

Now that number is upto 1 lakh. That number has grown to over 1 lakh now. That data is of course contributing to the bit data in IOT which means now we are able to assess better, we know the machines now. So here is how it works, once you have the data with you then accuracy comes into picture and then you can seeing trends, you can start looking for trends on this data and that data. On the customer side now all of that is on an app also. So that means if you are a customer then on your smart phone you can see your machine on an app and not just look where the machine is so for excavators, wheel loaders and compactors in Bauma Con Expo we launched the Intelli Series. Intelli series is now linked up through the live link telematics technology and now you can also come to know how much your machine has worked through the day. So not just location and fuel, you can also come to know what is the productivity of the machine and how much work it has done. We are going granular. We are going deeper in what a customer needs. I think the customers life has to made easier through technology and digital interventions. Because fleet sizes are increasing. Increasingly we are seeing people who are having more than one or two machines. Therefore you require some system where there is monitoring track.

Is there any scope from JCB side on additive manufacturing because HCB hands the bulk for additive manufacturing? Backhoe loader you control almost 74-76%, so is there any connection? Will you be able to get into spares and parts and this kind of a format?

You are saying we start manufacturing components?

I am talking of 3D printing. No not now. There is some time for all of

that.

Today how do you think of augmented reality which in area of training are you using this kind of a thing?

AI again is next step, after bit data IOT is the next step. Artificial intelligence we are moving in that direction and we have not been able to achieve that fully. Again our industry the scope of all of that becomes slightly limited because once you say for example Facebook or Instagram and if you are surfing on it for products then automatically Facebook will start giving you that sort of advertisements on your feed. We are not doing that now, we are not into that yet. But machine learning which is through Live link it is interim machine to machine learning, yes, IOT, yes, Bit data, yes, digital tech, yes all of that we are doing.

In event space what do you think maybe couple of manufacturing trends?

Manufacturing trends one is that the integration of digital technology into manufacturing that is one thing which is key and that is going to keep increasing with time and that is a huge thing. The other is inherently the design of the machine is now becoming smarter, so you will see smarter machines coming out and all such things are there. These are the two three trends which are coming out now.

Government Wants to eliminate lead in pipes in the next 2-3 years

For a sustainable future, the Centre is on a mission to eliminate the lead content from the pipes used in the country in the next 2-3 years. The government intends

to phase out lead stabilizers from PVC pipes.Lead has traditionally been used in India

and many parts of the world to stabilise rigid PVC for construction of industry products such as pipes, and in flexible PVC, fittings and window frames, mainly for wires and cables.

“Government is working with leading PVC resin producers in the Indian market, to devise ways to eliminate lead in a phased manner. The idea is to substitute the lead stabilizer with natural ones such as tin or calcium-based stabilizers,” said leading industry consultant Mr. MM Vakil.

Lead is scientifically proved as toxic to reproduction; toxic following prolonged and repeated exposure; hazardous to aquatic life. Lead can enter drinking water when plumbing materials that contain lead corrode, especially where the water has high acidity or low mineral content that corrodes pipes and fixtures. The most common sources of lead in drinking water are pipes, faucets, and fixtures. In homes with lead pipes that connect the home to the water main, also known as lead services lines, these pipes are typically the most significant source of lead in the water.

Non-pipe players eyeing piping business

With Boom in infrastructure likely to happen soon the commercial and residential projects eyeing a boom in the next few years, the pipe market is becoming lucrative. The pipe industry, which is currently at Rs 25000 crore market is expected to grow at 8-10% per annum.

The lucre of the market is attracting many players who were traditionally not associated with the piping line.

Leading manufacturers of wires and cables are also contemplating to get into the business of piping. Sanitary ware players such as Hindware and Roca Parryware have already entered the business.

“There is a lot of action that is going to see in the market that holds a great potential. There would not be a dearth of business at least for the next 25 years,” said Mr Vakil.

‘Silent pipes’ and other innovations

Silent pipes, as the name suggests are pipes that do not create noise when water flows through them. Such pipes are made of innovative material such as mineral re-inforced poly propylene, which provides excellent mechanical and acoustic properties to the pipe. Made with high molecular structure, which enables absorption of both air-borne sound and structure borne, sound. Hence

sound energy do not spread over the pipe. Ahmedabad-based Astral Pipes is one

player that makes Silent pipes at their plant in Ahmedabad. Supreme Industries also makes Silent pipes in their Jalgaon plant. Israel-based Huliot makes Silent pipes in their Baroda plant. Apart from this leading European companies such as Georg Fischer, Wavin, Valsir are also into imports of Silent pipe business in the country.

The market for Silent Pipes is about Rs 70-75 crore and is expected to become Rs 400 crore market in the next 4-5 years, said Mr Vakil. Delhi-based Ajay Industrial Corporation is also contemplating to get into Silent Pipes business.

According to Mr GS Dikondawar, Senior General Manager with Jalgaon-based Supreme Industries, many new advanced products are getting introduced for the hot and cold water supply and building drainage for commercial and residential plumbing. In the last few years time, advanced material like PEX, PERT and multilayer composite pipes are being introduced for hot and cold water supply.

According to Mr MM Vakil, who is also an advisor to Ajay Industrial Corporation Ltd , Chlorinated PVC (CPVC) pipes are the best for hot and cold water supply.

“CPVC pipes are so light that a team of plumbers could complete installation of Pipes n Fittings in 6-7 bathrooms in a day. Technology of CPVC is effortless solvent-cement cold welding. Earlier it was PPR, where two pipes were heated and then joined. However that product did not take off as mostly there was shortage of power at the site and the plumber always do not have adequate knowledge of fusion jointing. Thus CPVC has saved a lot of resources, costs, labour, time for the contractor.”

Similar developments are taking place in underground drainage sewerage segment wherein complete advance drainage system with readymade inspection chambers and manholes is now available. Quality of these products is at par with the products available in the other developed countries.

“These products helps in extensive saving in time, labour, cost and resources. This is because of their unique properties like being light weight, simple yet effective jointing, user-friendly installation techniques, cost effectiveness in comparison with the alternative products available in the market and many other unique features that these products offer,” said Dikondawar.

All the new and innovative products helps to boost the productivity of the contractors because of their simple yet effective installation techniques, which not only saves time but labor as well. “To name a few, our innovative products like Nu-drain underground drainage and sewer system with readymade inspection chambers and manholes, readymade septic tanks and grease

traps, readymade toilet blocks and pubic urinals are very useful in terms of boosting contractors productivity,” said Mr Dikondawar.

According to Mr MM Vakil, lead-free UPVC pipes and fittings, is an innovation. “Ajay range includes CPVC, UPVC, SWR P&F PVC Foam Core Pipes n Fitting, Column Pipes which is used alternatively to stone ware pipe, asbestos-cement concrete pipe and RCC pipes. In PVC foam core pipes, upper layer is PVC, middle layer is foaming agent and the lower layer is PVC. It has got a better ring stiffness and the longevity of the pipes are Very good. It can be effectively used in the drain and sewerage application below ground.”

For other high end luxury residential and commercial projects, there is a demand for PEX, polybutalene, and PERT (Poly ethylene at raised temperature) Pipes And Fittings However Such projects would comprise 2% of the market.

cpvc pipes has captured the national market to the tune of 90%MM vakil has been Pipes & Plumbing industry veteran with an experience running over 30 years . He used to be the vice President At Supreme Industries Ltd, President at Astral Polytechnik Ltd,and President at Ajay Industrial Corporation Ltd, all leading makers of plumbing products. vakil Presently works as a Advisor to Ajay Industrial

How are the plumbing systems evolving with innovation and new technology in the area of commercial and residential plumbing?

In hot water piping, CPVC technology is the best. It is an American technology and was launched in the country way back in 1999. It caught the momentum from 2007 onwards. Today, CPVC pipes have virtually outclassed GI & Copper pipes and fittings in the country. On an average 80 to 90% of the GI Pipes And fittings Market is converted to CPVC pipes. On an average CPVC pipes has captured the national market to the tune of 90%. The innovative values of CPVC pipes have caught everyone’s fancy. It has imbibed well for the residential as well as the commercial buildings.

The CPVC technology is there to stay for years together. For ultra high-end and niche projects, CPVC is being considered. Cost is never a consideration in such projects. For other high

end Luxury residential and commercial projects, PEX pipes, polybutalene, and PERT (Poly ethylene at raised temperature) are used. Such projects would comprise 2% of the market.

For Cold water we have UPVC pipes and fittings which is lead free, which is an innovation. We have PVC foam core pipe, which is used alternatively to stone ware pipe, asbestos-cement concrete pipe and RCC pipes. In PVC foam core pipes, upper layer is PVC, middle layer is foaming agent and the lower layer is PVC. It has got a better ring stiffness and the longetivity of the pipes are good. It is used in the drainage and sewerage application below ground.

How is the technology resulting in the savings of time, cost and resources for the contractor?

Earlier we used to have Galvanized Iron (GI) pipes, where threading, fitting and fixing used to happen at the site, making the products labour

intensive. CPVC pipes are so light that a team of plumbers could finish 6-7 bathrooms in a day. Technology of CPVC is effortless solvent-cement cold welding. Earlier it was PPR, where two pipes were heated and then joined. However that product did not take off as mostly there was shortage of power at the site and also the plumber always do not have an adequate knowledge of fusion jointing. Thus CPVC has saved a lot of resources, costs, labour, time for the contractor. This is important as today the labour charges have gone up to a great extent. This product is here to stay. There are so many players in this category. Ajay is one of the leading player in CPVC pipes and fittings segments and we are among the very few players with NSF (National Sanitation Foundation of US) Certification. We have NSF certification both on the raw material and the final product.

How is the market of your product segment growing?

There are other manufacturers who use CPVC resin and make the products inhouse. We use NSF certified compound to make pipes and fittings. Our products are also certified by IIT Delhi and Mumbai. Our elbow and brass articles are scientifically designed products. Our Elbows are designed in such a way that it gives a better flow in comparison to our competition.

The size of the Indian pipes and fittings market is around Rs 25,000 crore. The market for CPVC pipes and fittings, used for hot and cold water application, is roughly close to Rs

3500 – 4000 crore. The sales of the organised Sector could be roughly around 2500 crore. We are about 6% of the organized market. The market for CPVC pipes is growing at 15% per annum. The market for PVC pipes, used for Agriculture, drainage, sewer application, cold water application, is growing at 8% per annum.

The current market size for Silent Pipes is about Rs 70-75crore and is expected to become Rs 400 crore market in the next 4-5 years. In the market 6-7 players are there, with only three producing it locally and the rest, importing it.

In the coming years the country is expecting a real estate boom and we are highly optimistic of the industry’s growth plans. In Mumbai alone, there will be more than 300 + Towers under construction with 50 plus storeys in 2-4 years. So the potential is huge. In the immediate future, the markets will pick up in the next few months. Market is moving slow at the momentdue to factors such as low demand from the buyers and political uncertainity. Post June after the elections the market is expected to pick up in the country.

What are the major projects in the country using your solutions?

CPVC pipes and fittings for hot and cold water, then UPVC for cold water, SWR pipes and fittings, PVC foam core pipes and fittings, column pipes and fittings are some of our well-known products. We are involved in many large projects in the country. The largest project we have done in the country is with Dhirubhai Ambani International convention and Exhibition Centre (DAICEC). It is a 27 acre project based out of BKC, Mumbai. Now it is renamed as JIO World City. Samsung is the principal contractor and Aecom is the Principal consultant. We are one of the manufacturers chosen for plumbing. We at Ajay Industrial Corporation also supply to leading developers such as Lodhas, K Raheja, R Raheja and Tata Housing. We have got good projects coming up in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune, North and East.

How are the plumbing solutions becoming more eco-friendly today?

Plastic is an eco-friendly material. It consumes less energy, does not pollute and can be recycled. There is another pipe in PVC called DWC or Double Wall Corrugtated pipes, which are becoming prominent these days. The market size for this product in the next 3-4 years will exceed Rs 2,000 crore from the current Rs 600 crore. This pipe is replacing all RCC pipes in the country. There are manufacturers who make upto 1200 mm pipes. Plastic is going to stay here. Only thing is, the manufacturers need to be environment conscious ensuring only good quality materials are manufactured.

ConSTRuCTIon CHEMICALS

‘the future belonGs to polyurethane’Sanjay Bahadur, Chief Executive Officer, Global Constructions Chemicals Division at Pidilite Industries Ltd., speaks to Satish Purohit about the latest in waterproofing solutions for the construction industry

What changes do you foresee in the roofing and waterproofing solutions space in the next five to seven years?

More and more liquid waterproofing coatings like polyurethane and poly-urea hybrids are gaining acceptance in the market and one expects this trend to continue with new advances in industrial chemistry. Compared to pre-formed membranes, liquid applied membranes based on polyurethane/polyrea technology that is more suited to Indian conditions as these membranes provide seamless or jointless systems which make them more application-friendly. Another trend now is more customers are seeking solutions that provide insulation along with waterproofing. Again here, polyurethane-based technologies help to achieve this dual end. Polyurethane

dense foams are used for roof insulation purpose followed by special coatings of liquid PU under Dr. Fixit Low Energy Consumption (LEC) system and Dr. Fixit Blueseal brand names. Both are gaining good acceptance. We will also see a similar need trend in wall surfaces. Industrial urethane coatings are used mostly on the floor to improve performance of the floors under heavy usage conditions. We recently acquired a business of CIPY,(India’s largest floor coating company) and this acquisition adds to our capacity to service clients looking for floor solutions.

Could you share how polyurethane is presently being used for waterproofing structures by the building industry?

We have focused products & solutions for new

buildings and old structures with polyurethane being used for both. In new construction, we use hundred percent solid polyurethane-based systems for different surfaces of basements, podiums and roofs, whereas in old structures we use polyurethane as an external coat as breaking existing strata is often not feasible. These coatings also provide an additional advantage of UV resistance to ensure longer life.

How long have you been a part of Pidilite and what changes have you witnessed in the waterproofing space in these years?

I have been associated with Pidilite for 15 years. The market has shown acceptance of chemical waterproofing solutions & has grown substantially since then. Earlier, there were polymer cement slurry-based solutions for waterproofing followed by a phase when thicker cementitious coatings, and progressively to acrylic solutions. Today, polyurethane is the material of choice for waterproofing and will continue to be increasingly used as polyurethane is versatile, seamless and has a longer life compared acrylic and other coatings.

Does the increasing height of structures add to waterproofing challenges?

Today’s high rise living spaces & buildings are evolving with deeper basements and multi-

utility features like, landscapes, water-bodies, play areas, multi-car parks, jogging tracks, swimming pools etc. within shrinking structural spaces thereby increasing the complexity of architecture and design. With such design features and complexities, the demands of building performances including waterproofing are also increasing to make them more weather-resistant, leak-free, durable and long-lasting. Higher standards must be adopted to make these buildings last long. Ineffective protection of concrete leads to water ingress attacking steel which then results in cracks and structural deterioration that weakens the skeleton of these buildings. Whatever the usage and design, it is vital that a robust waterproofing system selected that effectively protects water damage-prone areas and ensures long service life of structures.

Do you have specific products or solutions that help builders address this rusting issue?

We have products that help in addressing rusting and carbonation issues. To repair deteriorating steel, we have products like Dr.Fixit Zinc-rich primer applied as coating on steel after removing & cleaning off the rust. We have are polymer-based concrete or micro concrete that are substitute material to repair the damaged concrete portions. This is how old buildings are restored. It is advised to adopt protective coatings for preventing a situation of concrete deterioration and rusting of steel. There are several protective coatings of Dr. Fixit like Raincoat series and Concreteguard (anti-carbonation).

We also have our very own DR. FIXIT

INSTITUTE that specializes in diagnostics of distressed structures and provides suitable solutions for their repair and rehabilitation.

How does the increased use of aluminum in facades impact your business?

We provide sealants for aluminum & glass facades of buildings. Aluminum facades have been very popular in air-conditioned commercial buildings that consume more energy. Then there is also a demand for aesthetics. The question is whether the Aluminum facades provide complete solution for waterproofing, insulation,

fire-protection and aesthetics? In countries like China, there are a variety of exterior wall panels that offer better insulation and also lend architectural flexibility with different types of finishes. We are still on the learning curve in this area and eventually we will be there as I anticipate a time when customers will desire to have such wall panels that are well-insulated, waterproofed and which provide excellent architectural finishes as well. Plastering and painting of buildings are very labour-intensive and require repeated rehabilitation every few years. These new-age wall panels could be a solution. In recent years in Dubai and London, there were big fires in buildings that spread faster to different floors due to inadequate fire-proofing & insulation of facades. If wall panels can address all these needs, the trend will change from aluminum facades.

Tell us something about your life journey with Pidilite?

It has been over 15 years since I started my association with Pidilite. I started my career with L&T’s ECC Construction in 1984 and worked there for about four-and-a-half years. In 1988 I started my own company in Chennai that manufactured concrete blocks followed by a company for ready-mix concrete in India in 1993. It is called RDC concrete today. In 2003, I joined Pidilite as CEO to build the construction chemicals business and since then it has been exciting an exciting journey. What excites me is this opportunity to make a difference to the construction industry standards & practices, which is also part of Pidilite’s mission.

the future of commercial real estate sector in india: 2019 and beyond

The commercial real estate sector in India is predicted to grow in the coming years; this upward trend specific to the sector has been further accelerated by

large scale investments by institutional investors. These havehelped consolidate the sector and bring in much needed order to the field. The commercial real estate market remains a strong beneficiary of India’s economic growth.

The commercial segment has been greatly boosted by government initiatives such as Make in India and other reforms in the realty sector such as the introduction of Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) and GST. Despite their initial troubles, developers and buyers have now hailed the move due to the resulting transparency and competence of the sector which has attracted increasing amounts of foreign direct investments (FDI) in commercial estate.

According to a survey by Colliers International, investors are confident about India’s robust commercial office market in 2019 and firm market fundamentals will continue to steer investments into commercial property assets.

Let’s look at some of the upcoming trends in the Indian commercial real estate sector -

The advent of REITs:The introduction of Real Estate Investment

Trusts or REITs in India is bound toreduce the financial deficit in the real estate sector. Apart from generating funds for builders, REITs also opens the market for the common man and doesn’t limit the sector to large institutionalised investors. With respect to the commercial real estate segment, REITs are expected to increase demand in sectors such as manufacturing and IT related institutions, due to better pricing and growth opportunities. The move is expected to fuel further growth and development in the overall real estate market in India, as they help developers reduce the stress of elevated capital costs involved in funding projects.

Co-working orHybrid workspaces:From rapid urbanisation to a growing start up

environment, a host of factors have driven the demand for co-working or hybrid workspaces, one of the key aspects of the commercial real estate sector in India. This growth curve is expected to continue in 2019 fuelled by advantages of using co-working or hybrid workspaces. Thereduced costs especially in terms of rent and the flexible work environmenthave attracted several corporates and start-ups to adopt the model.

Rising demand for Indian office markets:

The ever-expanding service sector has increased the demand for office spaces, one of the biggest drivers of the commercial real estate sector in India. Major reforms coupled with initiatives such as REITs have pushed developers to provide good quality work spaces in the service sector in order to adequately meet the demand. As per the projections from Colliers International, the annual average for fresh demand for office space across India will be 46 million sq. ft. till 2021.

Expansion of the warehousing and logisticssector:

The commercial real estate sector in India has greatly benefitted from the expanding warehousing and logistics sector. The growing rates of foreign direct investments have significantly boosted the industrial sector, especially large players in the e-commerce markets with expanding businesses. If the current macroeconomic factors as well as policy reforms are maintained, the warehouse and logistics sectors is expected to maintain current growth rates in 2019 according to the CBRE reports.

With the booming commercial real estate sector, project management consultancy (PMC) firms are increasingly playing a greater role in the delivery of commercial real estate projects. This is because they act as a single point of contact providing synchronised services in planning, supervising and monitoring the progress of projects right from conception to their delivery. There is an added advantage of not relying on multiple isolated service providers, which increases the expenses involved, and does not provide uniformity in the services provided. As a result, the tendency of developers to rely on PMCs for large scale commercial projects is a trend that will be seen in the future as well.

The commercial real estate sector is expected to propel the real estate market, especially due to the shifting attentions of the high networth individual (HNI) segment to the sector due to higher returns and better capital appreciation. The upward growth rate in the industrial and service sector has also contributed to the development of the commercial real estate sector and the future of the segment looks extremely promising.

REAL ESTATE

Will india housinG sector return to favour With pe firms?Anuj Puri, Chairman - AnARoCK Property Consultants

Inarguably, the Indian real estate vertical that in the direst need of funding is the residential sector. In a perfect world, the private equity that is now pouring into the country's realty

sector would focus on where it is needed the most. However, PE firms have their own investment rationale, and Indian residential real estate has been far from attractive to them.

There are sound reasons for this. The Indian residential sector has been hounded by multiple problems for the last 3-4 years. These include the issue of stalled/delayed projects, liquidity crunch, and high property values despite weakened demand and slow sales.

The country's housing market has also seen the highest impact of policy-induced disruptions. Given the fact that the housing market was tainted by malpractices and lack of customer-centricity by developers, the Government had to step in with policy interventions squarely aimed at cleaning up the sector.

The inevitable fallout of demonetization (DeMo) on an industry which was 'thriving' on black money aside:

The long-pending enactment of the Real Estate Regulation Act (RERA) drew clear regulatory lines for the housing market - for the very first time in India. Unregulated developers had to fall in line, step out of the game or merge with more organized players.

The rebooted Benami Transactions Act closed another gaping loophole, making unregistered property purchase and ownership impossible.

The application of the unified General Service Tax (GST) to replace all other previous taxes related to residential property purchase added another layer of regulation, resulting in increased complexity as well as increased cost of acquisition for most unfinished projects.

While all these measures were arguably essential for the long-term viability of the Indian housing sector, they resulted in a lot of uncertainty. Private equity players are highly averse to uncertainty, so it is not surprising that the residential space has fallen out of favour with them.

As per ANAROCK data, between 2015 and 2018, the share of private equity investments in the residential sector reduced from 47% to a mere 3%. Concurrently, commercial real estate saw a significant rise in PE investments.

In short, private equity investors have been steadily drifting away from the residential sector and are increasingly focused on the country's commercial office segment. Indian office spaces - particularly Grade A projects in CBD and SBD areas - have gained significant momentum over the last four years. Also, the Indian commercial real estate segment has historically been far more transparent and predictable than the residential sector.

‘don’t be an octopus’, suGGests amitabh bachchan in dr. fixit’s neW campaiGnSr. Bachchan seen educating audience about ill effects of taking shortcuts while constructing new home and recommends total waterproofing.

Dr. Fixit, from the house of Pidilite, today unveiled its new TVC campaign featuring legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, along with an

interesting set of aquatic creatures. The TVC urges home owners to avoid taking a shortcut, while constructing their new home and engage in “total waterproofing” with Dr. Fixit, to avoid future cost and damage to their homes.

Dr. Fixit commercials are known to educate Indian consumers about waterproofing while constructing their new homes in their usual light-hearted and humorous fashion. The new campaign stays true to this approach, with Mr. Bachchan bringing his own trademark style and wit to it.

The latest Dr. Fixit campaign addresses the shortcuts in waterproofing that people usually take while constructing their homes. Most people while constructing a new home, leave waterproofing on others, or don’t pay attention towards it and sometimes even consider it as an unnecessary expense. The TVC underlines the fact that skipping waterproofing can cost even more in the long run, because of the damage that leakage and dampness can

cause. The TVC draws attention towards how Dr. Fixit “Total Waterproofing” can safeguard your home and your investment; from unforeseen embarrassment in the future.

Most importantly, it urges the consumer to reach out to the Dr. Fixit brand, so that that they can receive the comprehensive “Waterproofing Guide”. This will guide them on waterproofing products and services; in a simple manner.

Mr. Vivek Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Pidilite Industries said, “Dr. Fixit is the market leader in water-proofing segment and it continues to play the role of building the category for waterproofing. People constructing new homes may have the right intention of waterproofing but often make the mistake of leaving it to others or ignoring it or cutting corners. This campaign featuring humorous interplay between Mr. Bachchan and aquatic creatures aims to nudge people in the right direction of seeking total waterproofing from Dr. Fixit. Humor works best in changing people’s attitude and even better with Bachchan.”

Commenting on the campaign, Piyush Pandey (Chief Creative Officer Worldwide

and Executive Chairman India) said, “Humans normally don’t change their behaviour when given lots of information but do so with an insightful and emotional nudge. In this series of interesting TVCs, Ogilvy and Corcoise team have done a fantastic job in providing the nudge through unique aquatic characters and humour. Mr. Bachchan is at his best, as always. It definitely makes a person sit up, take notice and reconsider their thinking on water-proofing.”

The campaign constitutes of three films featuring Bachchan and an aquatic creature symbolizing embarrassments that customers face when they adopt shortcuts. The TVC shall be aired during IPL season, also on key GEC, news channels and digital platforms.

TVC 1: The film opens with Mr. Bachchan playing himself. He is shown standing next to a turtle shell. “Yahan hain Sharmaji…Sharmaji bahaar aayein na, apne hi log hain,” Mr. Bachchan says. It then showcases Sharmaji’s head popping out of the turtle shell. Looking at Sharmaji Mr. Bachchan explains that, while constructing his new house he opted for a shortcut and relied on others for waterproofing. He then looks at the camera and appeals to customers to use Dr. Fixit Total waterproofing while constructing your new house or else face embarrassment like Sharma-ji.

TVC 2: The film opens with Mr. Bachchan standing next to Mr. Makhija, a frog, speaking to the camera. Talking to Mr. Makhija, he says, “Makhija ji ne ghar banate waqt laparwahi ki, shortcut liya aur waterproofing nahi ki.

Ab Sharma ji apne hi ghar me fudak fudak ke chal rahe hai.” Bachchan explains that if you don’t use Dr. Fixit while constructing the house, you have to face difficulties like Mr. Makhija and live like a frog in your own house.

TVC 3: The film opens on Mr. Bachchan sitting in a waterlogged house and speaking to the camera, when an octopus’ tentacle creeps up his hand and takes away a cup he is holding. There he introduces ‘Gupta-ji’, an octopus appropriating many household items to catch water leaking from the ceiling. Bachchan then explains the importance of waterproofing while constructing a new house; otherwise life will be as complicated as Gupta-ji’s.
