Limbach has over 20 years of expertise in helping minimize the impact of these increased costs experienced by our clients. In Ohio, for example, Limbach currently monitors over 60 school districts with our utility auditing service. This service creates a historical database of consumption and cost for electric, natural gas, and water for each building in a district. Limbach then begins searching for utility bill errors and inefficiencies in the facilities. For example, Limbach’s new client, Alexander Local Schools, received a refund of $35,000 for an error found in their electric bill by our auditing service. There are numerous success stories but possibly the largest savings occurred when Sabo/Limbach and 17 districts partnered with Strategic Energy of Pittsburgh, PA. Strategic sold the electric commodity to the districts while using American Electric Power lines for delivery. These 17 districts in Ohio collectively saved over $3.8 million since the contracts were signed in January 2003. After every fiscal year, each district receives a utility report generated by Limbach that includes overall energy assessment, graphs of historical usage and an individual facility usage trend (see graphs at right). Many districts treat this as a report card on their energy efficiency. The report usually shows three years of comparison on how the buildings use energy. If the report shows the buildings are high energy users, the districts may take further action to improve their energy efficiency. LIMBACH HELPS CLIENTS

Go Green & Save Money With Utility AuditingEveryone has noticed the fluctuation of gas prices at the fuel pumps, but you may not have noticed the increase of electric, natural gas or water costs to operate your homes, school or business buildings.

TURNER CREDITS COLUMBUS’ TEAMWORK FOR EARLY PROJECT COMPLETION

Bruce Carder, MEPT Superintendent for the Turner Construction Company, had some very impressive words to say about the Limbach Columbus team on the Licking Memorial Hospital Critical Care Pavilion (LMH CCP) project. LMH CCP was a 7,000 sq. ft. renovation and 100,000 sq. ft., 3-story addition for an emergency department, surgery department, central sterile, and mechanical/storage. According to Carder, our teamwork, dedication, and professionalism lead the project to an over one-month early completion date. LMH was able to move into the first floor of the pavilion in July of this year. Carder’s words speak for themselves:

“It’s difficult to put into words the overwhelming sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that I feel for the hard work that your workforce put into this project. I don’t believe that I have ever seen a group of workers get along better or help each other, if the need presented itself, as I saw here…It was said that the MEPs drove this project schedule to complete early…and I have all of you to thank for that…Thank you, your field leads and your professional workforce for an outstanding job.”

Congratulations to everyone at Limbach Columbus. This is truly an accomplishment worthy of praise.

LIMBACH DESIGNS FLEXIBLE HVAC SYSTEM FOR GAI CONSULTANTS’ EXPANSION

When GAI Consultants planned to expand their rapidly growing engineering business, they looked to design and build a 3-story, Class-A office building adjacent to their existing location in Homestead, PA. This is a new 25,000 sq. ft., 3-story Design/Build office building for Continental Building Systems.

Limbach’s in-house Engineer, Rick Mosser, designed an energy efficient and flexible HVAC system utilizing packaged rooftop units with fan-powered VAV terminals. As shown here, Pittsburgh Limbach employees Matt Little, Bob Hester, & Tom Lubresky set the two (2) 35-ton packaged rooftop units at the GAI Annex Building. GAI plans to occupy the building in October 2007.

Limbach Boston Celebrates 448 Safe Work DaysIn April, Limbach Boston held a breakfast meeting to celebrate the 2006 Safety Recognition/Incentive Program. Employees in attendance included all field and office personnel. Dennis Sacco Sr., Executive VP NE Region, addressed the importance of following up “near misses” with management. Rick Dorci, VP Branch Manager, recapped last year’s successes with an insight into the year ahead. Bart Navarro, Safety Manager, addressed the importance of sharing Limbach’s IIF program among all Limbach employees, as well as with other contractors on the jobsite.

In acknowledgement of an exceptional 448 days without a lost time accident, each of the 49 field personnel received a safety incentive award of gift cards ranging from $25 to $100. Additionally, 10 Top Safety Performers were recognized with prizes valued up to $1,000, including prizes such as IPODs, Red Sox tickets, a laptop, and one grand prize of a 32” flat screen TV.

The breakfast was well received with a lot of positive feedback about Limbach as a company, and appreciation of each individual’s continuing commitment to safety.

Western Air Limbach Employees Beat the HeatWestern Air Limbach employees at the East Valley High School site in Sun City managed to beat the heat while receiving proper job training. Pipefitters and sheet metal workers were first trained in scissor lift safety, and select employees from each group then moved on to extended–reach forklift operations and safety training. Connex boxes were utilized for the training sessions to minimize the discomfort of those hot valley days.

The 10 Top Winners are (from left to right): Mike Goulet, Lenny Petrone, Jason Roderiques, Jim Barry, Dan Molloy, Steve Gillis, Joe Lawrence, Al Linane, John Williams, and Mark Kaufman.

Western Air Limbach Employees Learn to Save livesThe Joshua Casey Corporate Training group conducted three CPR First Aid sessions for Western Air Limbach employees during the months of January and February of this year. Mike Baca, the instructor, conducted the 6-hour training sessions. The sessions were a combination of lecture about the importance of CPR First Aid and the proper procedure for a given situation, followed by the vital hands on experience in demonstrating the techniques.

Limbach Pittsburgh First Aid/CPR TrainingIn June, several employees from Limbach Pittsburgh spent half a day listening to Ralph Pagone, an EMS volunteer and American Heart Association Instructor. Ralph talked about the importance CPR and demonstrated the proper procedure for a variety of possible incidents from cardiac arrest to choking.

In addition to adult CPR, the students learned how to perform CPR on a child that might be choking. As you can see in the picture, everyone in the class became quite attached to their newborn volunteers.

Did you know?

• Each year cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac arrest claim the lives of 325,000 Americans before they reach a hospital.

• Almost 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member. Currently, the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims is approximately 6.4 percent.

CPR can double a victim’s chance of survival by maintaining vital blood flow to the heart and brain until more advanced care can be given.

Williard Limbach kicked off the month of August with Fresh Fruit Day. Every Monday the employees are treated to an assortment of fresh fruit. What a great way to start off the work week!

Limbach Detroit is Recognized Among Top 30 Contractors in MichiganIn April, Skanska USA Building Inc. recognized Limbach Detroit as one of the Top 30 Contractors in Michigan for 2006 during their awards dinner. Limbach DC is in the final stages of construction of Lincoln Hall at the National Defense University in Washington DC. The $20 million design/build mechanical project has been very successful for many reasons, but primarily thanks to Limbach’s hard work and dedication and a strong team effort involving Turner Construction, Skidmore Owings and Merrill Architects (SOM). A combination of a cost effective design, accurate price and proposal, dedication to contain project scope and settle major changes in scope during design, resulted in a job built successfully on time and under budget.

Limbach worked very closely with Turner, SOM, the Owner, and the US Army Corps of Engineers to keep this fast track project on schedule. A major change occurred 4 months into design, which resulted in significant changes to the building’s layout and mechanical system design. Limbach Engineering and Design Services (LEDS) was successful in developing new design solutions that satisfied the Architect and Owner’s stringent requirements. Following a long negotiating process, Limbach received a change order that added $8 million to the contract. Through all of this, a strong relationship was maintained among all parties involved.

Operations and Project Management were involved early with vendors and subcontractors’ input to develop the project scheduling, procurement and planning, which were ongoing during the design and pre-construction phase. The planning/coordination department supported LEDS and produced 3-D CAD drawings for coordination and prefab. As a result, the Pipe Fabrication Shop was able to get Limbach ahead of schedule. Foremen and PMs were attuned to the nuances of the design/build approach and worked successfully with Turner’s construction team to monitor actual labor costs against budget, and the tradesmen successfully achieved aggressive productivity goals. Startup and Commissioning were also involved early in the project, providing input on the LEDS design, schedule, coordination and shop drawing. Commissioning procedures and forms were developed during design and included as part of Turner’s Project Quality Control Plan. Field-testing and startup has begun, and approved plans are in place for final Functional Performance Testing. This will ensure that the project is closed out as successfully as it has been designed and built.

The Lincoln Hall project demonstrates how dedication, teamwork, customer care, early involvement and adherence to Limbach’s Required Project Standards can lead to a successful project outcome. The result of this endeavor is a project completed on time and under budget with a Customer and Owner that are very pleased with the results.

Good Relationships Lead to Good Projects

WESTERN AIR LIMBACH RECOGNIZES YEARS OF EMPLOYEE DEDICATIONIn April, Western Air Limbach held its annual Recognition Dinner aboard the famous Queen Mary ship in Long Beach Harbor, California. The dinner was held to acknowledge the tenure of its employees, some of whom have dedicated up to 20 years of service to Limbach.

This event gave Charlie Bacon, President & CEO, the opportunity to present Len Hayward, Vice President of Limbach and Branch Manager of Western Air Limbach, with the 2006 Crystal Award for Excellence in Safety and Wellness, Profitability, Sales and Operational Excellence and “Leveraging our Scale.”

Those present, including many special attendees of Limbach’s Executive Management Team, participated in an evening of great company, great food, and the opportunity to honor excellence and commitment in the workplace.

Those employees honored for their tenure were:

• Rick Fulgencio- 20 years• Neil Nixon- 15 years • Tom Cha- 15 years• Scott Sampson- 10 years • Christopher Mitchell- 15 years• Eric Sylvester- 10 years• Craig Demel- 10 years• Russell Beebe- 10 years• Tim Redondo- 10 years

MIKE HOGAN RETIRESThis past July, Williard Limbach bid farewell to a dedicated employee. Mike Hogan, Service Manager, retired from the Philadelphia branch after 20 years of service.

Mike will be remembered for always going the extra mile, especially when it came to his customers, visiting with them and making sure their HVAC needs were met. He maintained strong relationships with customers that extended beyond just “checking in” with them.

The Williard Limbach team celebrated Mike’s retirement with a barbecue lunch and presented him with a plaque in appreciation for his commitment and dedication to the Company. His fellow employees also gave him a gift certificate and a special gift.

Mike could always bring a smile to your face with his words of wisdom, fondly known as “Hoganisms”. He will truly be missed by his fellow employees, the vendors and the customers he worked with over the years.

Congratulations on your retirement, Mike!

Proud to be a Family Member by Bob Wilder

On June 20, 2006, Harper Limbach suffered a serious accident. One of our employees was hurt while welding in a trench. The trench caved in and a one-inch thick street plate fell on him, severely injuring him. At that time, Harper Limbach had completed 2,820 days without a single lost workday. As the Safety Director for Harper, I worried that all we had accomplished in the past 7½ years would dissolve in an instant, Incident & Injury Free (IIF) was out the window and the employees would develop a sense of “oh well, we were on one hell of a ride” mentality. It was just the opposite. All the employees rallied around the injured employee and his family in their time of need, helping any way they could to get him back to full working status and able to support his family once again. Some employees took his wife to and from the hospital to visit him and even made frequent home visits to check-up on him once he was released from the hospital. I realized that the IIF program had taken effect here at Harper and the employees responded by starting from square one, unscathed and determined more than ever to regain our reputation. The employees of Harper Limbach realized that such a tragedy could happen to any one of us and took the principles of IIF to heart. IIF is about caring for one another and taking responsibility for one’s own safety as well as the safety of your colleagues, so each and every one of us goes home safe to our families each night.

At this time, the employee is happy and healthy, his family is doing well, and the Company has started a new run of 390 days of no lost workdays and counting. In addition, the employees of Harper Limbach earned the ABC Diamond & Platinum Awards for Safety Excellence for the eighth year in a row. The IIF program works, if you give it time to work. Often times, people resist change even if it’s in their best interest.

All of us, not just one, have to help make Harper Limbach a safe work place. I am proud to be associated with each and every one of the dedicated men and women here at Harper Limbach. We are truly a family.

As Green building enters the mainstream, its feasibility is increasingly more evident. The demand for environmentally friendly products and services has increased their availability, as well as forced the costs down and allowed competitive pricing with conventional building materials. More and more companies are joining in the effort to create an environmentally friendly society, and new technologies are constantly being discovered to aid in the efforts. The United States Green Building Council, USGBC, recently released the results of a series of case studies and research studies that addressed the sustainability and feasibility of Green Building.

Here’s What’s New with Green:• Green building saves, on average, 20% of

construction costs during the construction project lifecycle

• A $4/sq.ft investment in green construction generates a $58/sq.ft savings for a 20-year life cycle building.

• Green building products and services market is expected to exceed $12 billion this year, up from a market value of $792 million in the year 2000

• There were 2,300 new green buildings in the US last year

• There are 850 LEED-certified and 5,600 LEED-registered buildings in the US

• 59% of AEC firms are experienced with green building

• 37% of AEC firms employ LEED-accredited professionals

• 30% of AEC firms report that they intend to become significantly more involved in green construction within the next 3 years

• Ford and GMC plan to manufacture 650,000 flex fuel vehicles this year

• Texas Instrument built the first LEED-certified semiconductor manufacturing plant in the world at nearly 1.1 million square feet

• The US Department of Energy’s $22 million Science and Technology Facility is one of fewer than 30 buildings and the 1st ever federal building to be certified LEED Platinum
