DIRECTOR’S CONCLAVE
GBS in association with KIMS oragnised the Director’s conclave on 19-11-12 at GBS inviting the Directors of all the affiliate MBA institute and their select faculty members for presentation on simulation as a pedagogical tool by Mr Rajiv Jayaraman CEO of Knolskape Bangalore. In his presentation Mr Rajiv Jayaraman informed that 3 billion hours of games are played per week all over the world
and about 10,000 hours of repetitive practice is undergone by present day kids. Owing to this the attention span has been coming down in class with respect to listening. Citing that 91%kis play digital games hence games are acting as bridging the gap. This is therefore an era of edutainment enabling the learning anywhere, anytime and anything. Simulation has become effective learning tool because it is learning by doing. The hands on learning makes the managers ready for the job in a better way and simulation provides this hands-on learning enabling the B-schools to close the gap of managers being not future ready. He gave a demo of various simulation products to the audience and explained the application part.( workshop)

GBS- a nostalgia
Mr. Bidyanand Jha Faculty-Marketing [2010-2011 Global Business School ]
Introduction of the author
No man who worships education has got the best out of education... Without a gentle
contempt for education no man's education is complete.
I am glad to write something about the Institute who gave me a great exposure for growing
in my career. There were lots of lessons for me during the association with GBS. I Joined
GBS in February 2010 and was there till May 2011.
We all had a dream to make this institution a world class preferred destination for learners
in the management education. We all worked very hard to make it happen. I am sure today
it is one of the best choices of learners in management education.
I was more interested in development of the students on an overall front, which I always
use to do with the help of GBS leadership. I still remember the first national conference

done at GBS. The event name “Acumen” was advised by one of my colleague “Mr.Kiran
Ambekar”. The Designing was supported by “Sumeet”. It was a wonderful event and
experience. There are so many sweet memories with some bitter experience which made
my learning recipe a perfect one during the stay at GBS.
One thing which I always appreciate is the dedication of faculties of GBS towards adding
value for the students. Non teaching staffs are the backbone of the Institute and they are
holding the institute in many facets of the operation.
I miss my friend “Kalmesh” who always use to support me in getting tea from the canteen
which uses to keep me energized during working hour. I miss the company of my
colleagues where lot of discussion related to paper writing and organizational development
use to happen.
I left GBS in May 2011 because of certain unavoidable circumstances. I joined Kirloskar
Institute of Advanced Management Studies for my career enhancement and I am proud to
inform you all that I am doing very well in all fronts. I have published 10 international
papers in refereed journals and recent one is for university of Colombo. I am visiting
University of Colombo on 13th December for presenting my paper in the international
forum. Also feel happy to inform about my two entrepreneurial ventures clickurmind.com
and anmolmoney.in
Life needs to move on and hence I carry this nostalgia. I love to experience the nostalgia
sometime with my GBS Family.
My best wishes to GBS for further growth.

FLOWER RANGOLI COMPETITION-ON 10TH
NOVEMBER 2012
Ladies Association committee took the initiative to organize “Flower
Rangoli Competition” on 10th Nov 2012 at GBS premises, through the
Event Titled: Vyanjan – Manoranjan under Ladies Association for both the First and second
year students of GBS.
Background
Rangoli is originated from two words Rang which means colors and Holi which means
celebration. So Rangoli is an artistic celebration of colors. To recall our early lessons in
physics that all colors originate from white light. That’s why prayers to light or Sun god is
one of the most important prayers you offer in your daily life in Indian tradition. Sandhya-
vandana (twilight zone prayer) was nothing but to remind that all colors lead to just one
color and that is white color. Similarly beneath all emotions, thoughts, feelings, reactions –
there is deep stillness always available to you. Diwali is one such occasion, preparing
Rangoli spreading happiness and joy, Light is a mystic significance of cosmic stillness
available to you beneath all colors of emotions.
Rangoli traditional Indian art In front of the house is one of the sacred and age old secret
phenomena of Intention. It is really an age old secret never got passed to current
generation. There are many traditions and customs associated with Diwali. Some make it
traditional colors and others make it with flowers with festival of lights just around the
corner. Rangoli is really not a mechanical or ornamental phenomenon. It is science of
creating energy pool. You need to go thru certain ritual of bath, mantras, Intention to create
a Rangoli.
The competition was well executed by the Ladies association team; we had 9- Teams
enrolled from the First year students and 8-team from second year students. It’s an idea of

NEW ARRIVALS
Book Summary of Aleph
Aleph marks a return to Paulo Coelho's beginnings. In a frank and
surprising personal story, one of the world's most beloved authors
embarks on a remarkable and transformative journey of self- discovery.
Facing a grave crisis of faith, and seeking a path of spiritual renewal
and growth, Paulo decides to start over: to travel, to experiment, to
reconnect with people and the world. On this journey through Europe,
Africa, and Asia, he will again meet Hilal—the woman he loved 500
years before—an encounter that will initiate a mystical voyage through
time and space, through past and present, in search of himself. Aleph is
an encounter with our fears and our sins; a search for love and
forgiveness, and the courage to confront the inevitable challenges of
life.
Book Summary of Breakout Nations: In Pursuit of The Next
Economic Miracles
To identify breakout nations it is key to travel with an eye toward
understanding which economic and political forces are in play at the moment,
and whether they point to growth, and at what speed. In a world reshaped by
slower global growth, we need to start looking at the emerging markets as
individual cases. This book tours the world to examine which nations are
likely to flourish - or disappoint - in the new era of diverging economic
prospects. Along the way I will offer a few plain-English rules of the road for
identifying emerging markets with star potential. My point is to take you with me on my travels
in search of the next breakout nations, and to answer that simple but difficult question, 'Where
will the money go? - from the prologue
About the author
Ruchir Sharma is head of emerging markets at Morgan Stanley, a position which lends him a
truly global perspective and first-hand experience of the world he is describing, as well as
affording him unique access to top CEOs, key finance ministers and heads of state. He is an
occasional television commentator, on CNBC and in India, and a regular columnist for
Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal and the Economic Times of India.

The Power Of Now: A Guide To Spiritual Enlightenment is a book
that teaches its readers how to find a path that leads one to find inner
peace and tranquility.
The Power of Now: A Guide To Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart
Tolle takes readers on a journey of self-discovery, a spiritual journey
that has no religious affiliations. The book uses ancient wisdom and
insights to show people how they can achieve a sense of peace and
well-being by learning to recognize who they really are.
For this, the author first distinguishes between the Manifested and the
Unmanifested. The Manifested beings include all the varied life forms that experience the cycle
of birth and death. The author, Eckhart Tolle, then speaks of one supreme entity, the
Unmanifested, which he terms as ‘The Being’.
Tolle says that a person’s mind does not really define the person, although people assume that
they are the result of years of social and cultural conditioning, and their minds’ perceptions. He
says there is a deeper presence in every individual that voices out one’s thoughts. He also talks
about how a person’s ego holds him back from connecting with the universe, creating an illusion
of separation. He stresses on the importance of letting go of all the confusion and chaos created
by the mind and identifying the inner presence, which will help one achieve ‘the joy of being’.
The book invites people to live in the present (‘the now’, as it is termed), without fighting against
the ultimate reality of what exists, in order to achieve tranquility and peace of mind. This
positive state can help people avoid rash decisions and put things in perspective before taking a
call.
The book’s deep insights into unlocking the human consciousness by surrendering to the ‘Now’
can help readers find a deeper meaning to life, in addition to giving them new ways in which
they can handle problems.

OUTLIERS
In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an
intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and
the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks
the question: what makes high-achievers different? His answer is
that we pay too much attention to what successful people are
like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their
culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic
experiences of their upbringing. Along the way he explains the
secrets of software billionaires, what it takes to be a great soccer
player, why Asians are good at math, and what made the Beatles
the greatest rock band.
Brilliant and entertaining, OUTLIERS is a landmark work that will simultaneously delight and
illuminate.
