CONNECTING CLASSROOMS CONNECTING CLASSROOMS CONNECTING CLASSROOMS CONNECTING CLASSROOMS Taking advantage that this year is the year of the intergenerational cooperation, we have based our project on raising awareness in our students of the value of communicating with the elderly. So, we got in touch with an old people’s home in our town and we arranged to go there several times to do different things. On our first day there, we sang some songs for them, we were with them, we talked to them and we had some snacks. On the second visit we interviewed them, and we wanted to share some of their knowledge on cooking. Our students took notes of their recipes and they will make them in the future. We also played dominoes with the elderly and with a group of children aged from five to twelve at risk of exclusion. On the third visit we brought some messages that dealt with how to fight against social exclusion and blew up almost a hundred balloons. Each of them contained one message. And at the end of the session we released them. Before that, the staff from the old people’ s home prepared some delicious hot chocolate for everybody. These last two activities were related to a project we took part in, organised by our national TV channel (TV3) called “Marathon Against Poverty”. The children enjoyed it very much and they are already thinking of coming back. Some of them bought a few presents for them and the old people were delighted. We hope you like our project.
