Each wedding is unique and should reflect your own style and personality so we prefer to build your day around you. As a guide, we can offer a bespoke menu drawn from our seasonally changed a la carte list or create an inclusive package that simplifies the planning process.

As a guide, a typical reception with a three course menu, reception drinks and wines can start from £60.00 per person, but really it all depends on what you have in mind.

Depending upon timings, the size and style of your party or simply your own personal preference, we can guide you through the options during an informal appointment with one of our managers.

Civil Weddings.

After meeting privately with the registrars, picture a stunning ceremony in The rosette awarded Derwent Restaurant where your guests have assembled. Making your way down our main staircase, the music you have chosen begins, and you’re ready to make a grand entrance. The day has finally arrived. From the moment you book, your memories will start to take shape, guided by a dedicated member of the management team. They will be on hand to advise you at each step of the way and most importantly, there to coordinate the events of the day.

Traditional Weddings.

Cockermouth has several places of worship and a host of beautiful churches that offer couples a sense of history, tradition and spirituality.

For those seeking a more rural location, there are several notable village churches nearby. Cockermouth's All Saints Church on Kirkgate with its clearly visible steeple is where William Wordsworth was baptised. Its fine stained glass Windows are dedicated to the poet.

Wordsworth House.

It’s hard to believe that the fine Georgian house next to the Trout Hotel was earmarked for demolition in the 1930’s.

The town petitioned against it being replaced by a bus terminus and today it has been restored to its former glory by The National Trust. Couples can be married in the Dining Room, upstairs in the Drawing room or in the original Kitchen. Naturally, guests can then adjourn to the Trout Hotel for the awaiting reception.

The Gardens.

The Trout Hotel grounds offer guests an oasis of tranquillity and is one of the few venues in the area that is set amongst its own award winning Gardens.

The Riverside is a perfect backdrop for stunning wedding photography whilst your guests enjoy pre-reception drinks and canapes on the lawn. For weddings held in the Derwent Restaurant, our gardens are exclusively reserved for you to enjoy before the wedding breakfast is served.

The Derwent Restaurant.

High ceilings, ornate fireplaces, period panelling and intricate plasterwork make this room perfect for a grand entrance.

Newly appointed fixtures, furnishings and fabrics add to the glamour. The rosette awarded Derwent Restaurant is licensed for civil ceremonies and can accommodate 56 guests seated. For smaller parties, the room has sliding mirrored doors that can be closed giving you an option to partition the room for private dining. It is fully equipped with a sound system incorporating media connectivity.

The Derwent Restaurant Floor Plans.Depending upon the size and scope of your event, we can offer a variety of table plans and can go through your seating arrangements prior to making a final choice. Whether it is a single table for an intimate dinner party or a more formal plan for larger functions, we can talk you through the options. Most importantly, we try to ensure your individual requirements are met. Complimentary printed seating plans are provided for display.

The Wordsworth Room.

A self-contained room with its own private courtyard area.

With the addition of patio heating and lighting it’s perfect for pre-dinner drinks or simply somewhere to relax on balmy summer evenings. The Wordsworth Room is versatile enough to use as an intimate private dining space or as a venue for smaller civil ceremonies. With a capacity of 26 people seated, you can normally have this room throughout the day and evening or adjourn to it after the day’s events for an informal gathering.

The Wordsworth Room Floor Plans.The Wordsworth Room can be set for smaller groups and there are options for intimate groups on a single table up to a maximum of 16 people. Larger parties of up to 26 can be seated in groups of 6 on separate tables but it is always advisable to discuss all options with your wedding coordinator who can assist with your individual requirements.

Marquee Celebrations.

A Marquee option is a perfect solution if you are intending to host a larger event for up to 150 guests.

Imagine a summers day on our extensive lawns enjoying drinks and canapes before enjoying an entire day and evening in a marquee beautifully dressed to your own specifications. We use a specialist company that can provide a wide range of options with full bar facilities, dancefloor, a choice of interiors, and full chandelier lighting. Marquee functions are licensed until 12 Midnight and a wide range of entertainment can be booked individually or on your behalf.

Your Bespoke Menu. Our A.A Rosette awarded Derwent Restaurant offers menus that can be as elaborate or as simple as you want them to be.

Remember that it is your day and a reflection of your individual style and taste so choosing the right menu for you and your guests is probably one of the most important decisions. With a large brigade of professional chefs led by Alex Hartley, we have a substantial repertoire of dishes that are seasonal and using the finest local produce. We also realise that you may have something different in mind which is why we like to consider your own suggestions.

Wedding CoordinationFrom the first enquiry to the day itself, you will have the services of someone who is dedicated to documenting, arranging and executing your plans to the last detail.

Table & Room DressingYou will be provided with printed seating plans, personalised menus, a silver cake stand and knife together with free floral centres for your tables. We can dress your tables according to your specifications on the day.

Master of CeremoniesHowever formal or informal you want us to be, an experienced member of management will be available to coordinate the day perfectly. They will ensure your music is perfectly timed and can make appropriate announcements and introductions at key stages of the day if required.

Reserved for YouWe offer allocated parking for bridal cars and a red carpet at the hotel entrance. The hotels main garden can also be reserved for photographs and reception drinks. For civil marriages, a private meeting room is yours to meet with the registrars prior to the ceremony.

Pre-Wedding Menu Tastings and Private DiningIn order to appreciate the composition of your chosen menu, you can arrange a pre-wedding booking. This is an opportunity to experience the dishes for yourself before making a final decision on what you are going to offer your guests. We are happy to offer wine tastings too.

PhotographersHaving a permanent record of the day is one of the most important aspects of your wedding so having someone professional to capture those special moments is reassuring. We realise that choosing your own photographer is a very personal choice but we are happy to give you the contact details of some of the best in the area.

Wedding CarsIf transport is required, we can provide you with details. There are several vehicle hire specialists in the area so if it’s a chauffeur driven vintage limousine or a self-drive classic, there’s something for everyone.

Place Cards and FavoursPersonalised place cards can be hand written for you and as for wedding favours, we can arrange individual gifts that are truly unique. For inspiration, The Lakes Distillery in Bassenthwaite produce stunning miniatures that can be packaged in your colour scheme.

Room Dressing & Chair CoversIf you have a theme in mind, we can introduce you to specialists who will bring your ideas to life. Chair covers and room dressing services can be arranged to take place on the day itself although in some cases, the room can be dressed prior to the day.

Flowers & BouquetsThe hotel's florist can create the most elaborate displays and table arrangements that tie into your chosen scheme. These can be delivered freshly prepared on the day together with your bouquet, buttonholes and corsages. Floral Boutique in Market Place can discuss ideas, show you images and arrange quotations at any stage of your plans.

Musicians & EntertainersSetting the right atmosphere usually involves some sort of music or entertainment. We have professional contacts in the area. You can choose a string quartet, classical ensemble, Scottish piper or harpist. For light table side entertainment, you can choose one of several magicians or one of the talented caricaturist’s in the area. 16

Booking Conditions & Charges.

Religious Ceremonies If you are planning to host the reception following a ceremony elsewhere, we can advise on suitable timings. If you aren’t getting married within your own parish, the Cockermouth area is well served by churches of all denominations and we would be happy to provide contact details.

Civil Ceremonies We recommend that civil ceremonies at the hotel take place between 12 noon and 2.00pm. Ceremonies are limited to a maximum of 56 guests. We charge £300.00 for use of The rosette awarded Derwent Restaurant or Wordsworth Room as a Marriage venue when holding your wedding breakfast at the hotel. This is in addition to Cumbria Registration Services fees.

Naming Ceremonies Baby naming ceremonies are charged at £300.00 in addition to Cumbria Registration Services fees.

Ceremony Only We do accept bookings for a ceremony only providing reception drinks and canapés are arranged with the hotel. A minimum charge of £500.00 applies for use of our Derwent Dining Room in addition to Registration Services fees.

Marquee Functions We use an external supplier and are invoiced in advance. A typical hire charge with all fixtures for a party of 150 is £6,500 (2017 prices) In order to book this we would require full pre-payment. The marquee is not licensed for civil marriages. A temporary event application also needs to be approved. Entertainment is licensed until 12 midnight.

Concierge ServiceWe reserve the right to administer a charge for booking external contractors or service providers. In some cases, we may need an advance payment in order to secure an external service provider. In the event of a cancellation or significant change to your booking, a deposit or pre-payment for external contractors may not be refundable.

Deposits & Accounts A non-refundable deposit of £500.00 is required to secure an agreed date and venue. Confirmation of final numbers and arrangements together with pre-payment 2 weeks prior to the event is also required. This is based on the final pro forma invoice and any additional products and services taken during the event will be invoiced.

Cancellations If you need to change your date due to unforeseen circumstances, we can sometimes accommodate this subject to availability. We recommend that you keep us fully informed as soon as possible to avoid being charged.

Changes to your Booking If the size of your party is substantially reduced or increased prior to the day, or if timings are altered, we may reserve the right to move your event to an alternative venue within the hotel. Although we always endeavour to be flexible, we may not be able to accommodate major changes to your booking.

Wedding Meals Due to the nature and scale of larger wedding events (over 30 people), we must insist that all wedding meals must consist of a set menu starter, main course, dessert plus any required intermediate courses.

Corkage We regret that wines should be selected from our wine list. If you do wish to discuss supplying your own wines, we incur a corkage charge of £15.00 per bottle.

Children If you are planning to invite guests with young children or have children of your own at the event, we do have facilities and menus to suit. We have several high chairs available and these are suitable for babies between 6 months and 2 yrs. We do require a pre-order for all children’s meals and they should be included in the seating plan. Baby changing facilities are available on the ground floor. We request that children are appropriately supervised during the event.

Insurance For peace of mind, we do recommend that clients booking such an important event should consider taking out wedding insurance.
