Principal’s Report

Students at Berrigan Public school have been doing a lot of working hard in Peer Groups on what makes a great school. From this work the Year 5 and 6’s were able to condense the ideas of each group to 4 key Values that they felt would help the students at Berrigan Public School be the best people that they can be. These Values will now sit under our school Mantra of ‘Play your Part,’ as the way we conduct ourselves at school, at home and in our community. Following these values will help all students prepare for adulthood and to be the best people they can be. Each Value is assigned a colour and will be visible around the school. Be Safe is yellow, Be Respectful is Green, Be Responsible is Blue and Be Proud is Pink. As part of the work that students have been doing we will be holding a Launch Party later in the term – so please keep an eye out for the finalised date on FaceBook and in the newsletter. BPS Swimming Carnival Mrs Phillips has been very busy organising our carnival and is all set to go. Our new house captains and vice captains have done a wonderful job organising their houses with war-cries, ready for the big event. The staff have been extremely impressed with their leadership already. A reminder that this is a school event and all students are expected to attend. Students in 3-6 will go to the pool at 3pm to commence the Carnival. K/1/2 will get changed at school and then go to the pool. Please pack extra snacks. Students will remain under the supervision of staff until the completion of the carnival. As with any school day, if you wish to pick up your child early you must inform their teacher. Mrs Arnold and Miss Bacchetto will run an infant’s water fun carnival alongside the main carnival, which enables all students to participate, Kinder to Year 6. Good luck to both houses and I know the trophy for the 2019 champion swimming house will be hotly contested. A big thank you to our BPS P&C as they are providing a free sausage sizzle at the carnival to welcome everyone to the 2019 school year. Thank you to the parents that offered to time keep – it’s not too late to put your hand up to help – Please see Mrs Phillips. An important reminder, Friday will be a pupil free day, in lieu of the Twilight Swimming C i l b l k d

P&C Meeting

Tonight at 6:30pm will be the AGM for the P&C, followed by the monthly meeting. The P&C will provide a light supper after the meeting and I would encourage parents to take advantage of this and come along – many hands make light work.

Attendance – Messaging Service

Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. Children and young people will grow, flourish, do well and prosper if they have a sense of connection to their school and wider community. Regular attendance at school assists students to achieve quality life outcomes and helps them to develop confidence in positively shaping their own futures. It is important that you inform the school of any absences. To make this mandatory requirement easier in the next few weeks we will be introducing a text service. This will mean that you will be notified in the morning when your child has been marked as absent, you will then have the option to reply to this text message with your reason rather than write a note.

Tanya Saraikin - Principal
