Just over a week ago the firemen managed to extinguish a devastating fire in the mountains around Muizen-berg and Noordhoek and now we are experiencing the same right here in our backyard.
It has been a week filled with a rollercoaster of emotions and will be remembered as such in time to come. As I sit here writing this editorial, there is a thick cloud of smoke above and the ashes from a raging fire is falling around us. As the fire affects some of our friends and their families and people we don’t even know, our thoughts and prayers are with them and our appreciation to the number of firemen putting their lives at risk to
save us and our property. We also had to say goodbye to one
of the most legendary rugby centres Paul Roos Gymnasium has had, Oom Tjol Lategan.
During the 150 years of Paul Roos’ existence we have managed to gener-ate a number of Springbok rugby players. One of these players, Oom Tjol Lategan has played a significant role in the rugby community. Our thoughts are with those who were close to him and may our contribu-tion to the sporting fraternity in South Africa continue to deliver more Oom Tjols.
On a less troublesome note, PRG has yet again managed to achieve
great accomplishments at the week-end’s Argus event. Many of our cy-clists took part and held the Maroon name high. A special congratula-tion is in order to Ruderick Heuer (Matric) who was the first U/18 rider across the finish line with a time of 1 hour and 9 minutes, thus being the junior overall winner.
If a lesson can be learned from all the past weeks’ events, is that some things/people in life are more pre-cious than you might realize now. Don’t neglect those closest to you and don’t miss out on opportunities, be-cause you think tomorrow is another day.
Ruderick Heuer
Details of the 8 candidates nominated for the election appear on page 6 of this issue.

Twenty three Paul Roos athletes were chosen for the Western Cape team to represent Boland at the Western Cape Championships on 13-14 March 2015 at Coetzenburg, among them Luan van der Vyver, captain of the school’s athletics team.
Photos: Inus Grobler

Nasionale Driekamp-kampioen300% is Nic se norm
Charl Smit
Nicholas het by dié kompetisie teen vorige Afrika-Driekampkampioene
Nicholas is egter ‘n meester as dit kom by al drie hierdie dissiplines.
Hardloop + swem + fietsry = Nicholas Quenet. ‘n Nasionale en – wie weet – dálk ‘n internasionale driekampkampioen!

Road cyclist Ruderick Heuer, Grade 12, aged 17, was the first to cross the finish line of this year's annual Cape Argus Cycle Tour, granting him the gold medal for his age category (under 18s). The past Sunday's cycle tour, 8th March 2015, was shortened to 47 kilometres on account of the fire in the peninsula, which did not stop Ruderick from obtaining such a
noteworthy achievement. The start-finish line was drawn at
Green Point, close to the Cape Town Stadium.
With an early start at 6:15 am, the 500 juniors set off, passing Hospital Bend and returning to Green Point to finish with a crowd cheering their return.
Ruderick finished with an impres-sive time of 1h 9 min 05 sec, placing him first by a mere split seconds.
Amongst the thirty-plus thousand cyclists, world famous British cyclist Mark Cavendish participated in the cycle tour.
It was Ruderick’s sixth time attempt-ing the cycle tour. Last year he came second, but this year he gave it all to obtain a well-deserved first place. For him it was "just another race", yet it is still a sought-after achievement. His dream is to take part in the Tour de France one day.

Heinen (heel links). Photo: Richard Xian

Oom Tjol was in Paul Roos Gimna-sium en Ryk was 'n Boishaaier.
–RED.)
