Driver Training

Truck driver training is specialty training for an individual to learn how to drive an 18-wheeler, or a commercial truck that transports goods over short or long distances.

The individual will need to study for and pass the exam to receive a CDL, or Commercial Driver’s License. Different trucking firms have differing training procedures, but there are some common areas that require the new driver’s attention.



The new candidate will have to have a US driver’s license from the state that is declared to be a permanent domicile. In addition to the valid driver’s license, the individual must meet the Homeland Security/Transportation Department requirements and must be 21 years of age.



The prospective driver must meet the requirements on the CDL license that fit to the type of vehicle that he will be driving, according to passengers hauled, vehicle size and type of cargo that will be hauled.



Once the individual is hired on with a company, there is usually a period of on the job training with a more experienced driver to acclimate the new driver to rules and regulations of the road as well as company rules and observances. More info on:



By the time the initial training is completed, the new driver is pretty well equipped to handle just about any situation that might come up on the road while driving the truck.
