Introduction 1

Display, generalThere are two different types of display. The basic display and the graphic display. The basic display is a segment type displayand can only show a limited number ofcharacters. The graphics display is largerand can show a variety of different charac-ters and symbols. There are two versions ofthe graphic display. A simpler version anda full function display. These instructionsdescribe the full function display. Anyfunctions not supported by the simpler ver-sion will be indicated.

The display contains numerous main menusand sub-menus with their associated func-tions. These instructions explain eachfunction, how to operate the display usingthe control lever and what action the driveris required to take when messages are auto-matically displayed.

The initial chapter describes the most fun-damental functions with which all driversshould be familiar. The other chapters de-scribe the functions in more depth. Severalof these functions are more useful in theworkshop than to the driver. At the end ofthe instructions, there is an alphabetic indexwith references to the functions to be read.

The display in the centre of the instrumentpresents the driver with necessary informa-tion. It is controlled using the control stalkon the right-hand side of the steeringwheel, which is used so that the driver orthe mechanics can retrieve information.Certain information is displayed automati-cally (e.g. warnings).

The information that is available dependson whether the vehicle is in operation orstationary. Certain functions are passwordprotected and are not shown until the cor-rect password is entered, see “13.1 Enterpassword” page 75

Display control stalkManual communication with the display isachieved using the control stalk on theright-hand side of the steering wheel. Thefollowing commands are available:

1 ”Esc” is used to return to the previousmenu and to cancel a setting /opera-tion.

2 ”SELECT” confirms the selectedchoice of menu or symbol.

3 ”” moves the cursor up and is usedto set numbers/characters.

4 ”∇” moves the cursor down and isused to set numbers/characters.

Messages 11

Messages, generalThere are three types of messages:

• Information• Warning• Stop

Information, warning and stop messagesare displayed automatically with their asso-ciated symbols. Above the display are threelamps (for information, warning and stopmessages) used to draw the attention of thedriver whenever necessary. When a stopmessage comes on and the engine is run-ning a buzzer is activated as well.

More than one message can be active at thesame time. When a message is displayed itcan be replaced by a new message providedthe new one has a higher priority. I.e. thedisplayed message always has the highestpriority.

To receive more detailed information on theinformation, warning and stop messagesthat are automatically displayed, see “10.1Fault Diagnostics” page 57

Information messageImportant! If this indicator light comes onit means there is a new informationmessage.

T3014366

Warning messagesImportant! When this lamp comes on itmeans that there is a specified fault thatmust be checked at the next stop.

T3014365

Stop message

Warning! When this lamp lights upthe vehicle must be stopped and the en-gine must be switched off immediately.

12 Messages

Acknowledging messagesA fault message is acknowledged by press-ing ”Esc” after which the display returns tothe same status as before the fault occurred. All types of message can be acknowledged.Acknowledged but inactive messages willbe displayed again when the ignition key isturned to start position or they can be readin the menu “5. Vehicle messages” page 35.

Information or warning messages: Infor-mation and warning messages can beacknowledged using ”Esc”. This warningstays acknowledged until the next time theignition key is turned to the start position.

Exceptions: The message can be displayedagain if the fault is cancelled and then be-comes active again.

Example:If the transmission fluid tempera-ture is too high, a message will be activatedautomatically. The driver acknowledges thismessage using ”Esc”. If the temperaturethen drops to a normal level temporarilyand then increases again to an excessivelevel, the warning will activate again.

Stop message: The buzzer and a stop mes-sage can be acknowledged using ”Esc”, butbecome active again 10 seconds after thelast acknowledgement. The symbol will re-main on the whole time.

Examples of symbols and textThe information, warning or stop symbolcomes on and the information message isshown on the display (for more informationon the fault, see “10.1 Fault Diagnostics”page 57 ) A warning tone will be heard ifthe engine is running when a stop messageis activated. The message contains informa-tion on where the fault has occurred:

14 Menus

Menus

This chapter describes all the display func-tions. The display has 13 different mainmenus. Menus 7 – 13 are accessible onlywhen the vehicle is stationary and at speedsbelow 8 km/h. The menus are locked athigher speeds.

Several sub-menus are password protectedwhile the vehicle is stationary.

Note! If all the menus are to be shown, thecorrect password must be given. This ap-plies every time the ignition key is turnedto the drive position (if it was more than60 seconds since the last time the ignitionkey was in the drive position). See “13.1Enter password” page 75. A password pro-tected menu is indicated by a shaded box inthe menu structure.

In order to navigate the menus in theseinstructions, they are numbered in a hierar-chical structure with the first numberindicating the current main menu. The sec-ond number indicates the first level ofsubmenu, the third number the second levelof submenu and so on. Every numbered

menu represents a display screen so that itis easy to keep track of which buttons havebeen pushed.

Each menu is also presented in text so thatthe users will know exactly where they aresituated as follows:

”MENU:” followed by the name of thecurrent main menu and the sub-menu/submenus.

The menus on the display in the vehicle aremarked in another way. The numbers at topright indicate the current menu and thenumber of menus at the same hierarchicallevel.

Ex:

Menu 3/7

means:

There are seven menus at the same hi-erarchical level. You are in number 3of these 7.
