Wednesday, April 30 Larimer County is sponsoring an informational Emergency Prepared- ness Open House on Wednesday, April 30, from 6-8 p.m.at the Love- land Chilson Senior Center, 700 E. Fourth St. in Loveland. The purpose of the open house is to provide updates on flood and fire related recovery ac- tivities and to provide information on preparedness activities and actions for this upcoming season in Larimer County. With the spring season upon us, additional flood concerns exist due to the large wildfires and flooding over the last few years. The next few months hold the potential for addi- tional flooding throughout Larimer County due to significant snow pack, change in streambed sediment and depth, scorched land from wildfires, and the upcoming severe weather season. Additionally, wildfire remains a constant concern for much of the county throughout the summer months. Open house topics include: flood- plain impacts and plans, flood insur - ance opportunities, wildfire and flood restoration, spring run off consider- ations, weather updates and watch/ warning information, emergency management actions and prepared- ness, wildfire mitigation information, psychological first aid and stress management tools, and preparedness tips and resources for the hazards that most affect Larimer County res- idents. Following the 2013 flood, the coun- ty constructed temporary roadways and structures to provide access as quickly as possible. Many of these facilities could not be built to perma- nent road standards in the available time last fall and are at risk of fail- ure during spring runoff conditions. It is imperative that all community members remain vigilant this up- coming season and have a clear plan for response if evacuations become necessary. Join us to discuss the future of the Larimer County Natural Resources Open Lands Program at our first Open Lands Master Plan public forum. The Jabaily award was created by the Lar- imer County Board of Health in honor and in memory of Dr. Joseph Jabaily, a Loveland neurologist, community activist, volunteer and member of many boards in the county who died tragically after an accident in a chari- ty bicycle race in summer of 2004. The award honors an individual or group who has contributed in an extraordinary way to public health in Larimer County or has made an out- standing contribution to public health in Larimer County over time. May is Older Americans Month, a perfect opportunity to show our appreciation for the older adults and caregivers in our community. The Lar-imer County Office on Aging will host an awards ceremony, Thursday, May 8, 2014, honoring one outstanding senior volunteer and one outstanding family caregiver in our community. The Office on Aging is requesting nominations from the public for these awards. All nomination forms must be turned in or postmarked by April 11, 2014. Since 1963, communities across the nation have come together to celebrate Older Americans Month — a proud tradition that shows our nation’s commitment to recognizing the contributions and achievements of older Americans.

The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is taking nominations for the eighth Joseph Jabaily Public Health Hero Award. The Jabaily award was created by the Lar-imer County Board of Health in honor and in memory of Dr. Joseph Jabaily, a Loveland neurologist, community activist, volunteer and member of many boards in the county who died tragically after an accident in a chari-ty bicycle race in summer of 2004.

The award honors an individual or group who has contributed in an extraordinary way to public health in Larimer County or has made an out-standing contribution to public health in Larimer County over time. Nomi-nations must be submitted in writing, either online or on a PDF file from the award website at http://www.larimer.org/boards/public_health_hero.cfm. Nominations are due by 5 p.m., Mon-day, March 31.

Al-Anon is an anonymous fellow-ship that offers support to people whose lives have been affected by relatives and friends who suffer from the disease of alcoholism.
